This is a real gem. The place is a whole in the wall that serves great chicken. The side here are not to my liking...the slaw was too sweet, and the corn, was basically tasteless. The chicken on the other hand is delicious...I order the the half a chicken dark meat. I would recommend this place as a healthy option, for those who want to eat meat and not spend $10 dollars on a salad and be hungry half an hour later. I've been going to chicken planet for years. I used to work in the downtown area and you couldn't get a better deal. The food is great not only for the price but good quality fast food. The chicken is always tender, they have a variety of sides, and the pita goes great with the meal. I go with the 1/4 or 1/2 white meat, depending on how hungry I am and I get the side of rice and 2 pitas. The BBQ sauce is they offer is tangy, I think it might actually be Open Pit which I really like. They also have a salsa which is also good for dipping both the chicken and the pita. As it turns out, when the only thing you do is roast chickens on the grill all day long, you tend to do it really, really well. I got half a chicken, dark meat, because YOLO. Also dark meat doesn't dry out as easily. On the side I got rice and a drink. Maybe the thighs were a *hair* overcooked, but overall this is grilled roast chicken as it ought to be: warm, moist, spicy crispy skin, and ready literally before I was done paying for the meal. The rice pilaf was excellent, seasoned well and uniformly tender. The chicken meat was exceptionally tender. And the price, at about $8 tax included, is perfect. I always get a half chicken for myself because they are relatively small chickens and they are so good that a quarter will not satisfy your craving. Food is as good as the Jackson location where I usually order a half chicken, with a side of their very tasty rice. There's not much to say about Chicken Planet- it delivers on its promise. For the almost comically low price of $6, one can get half a chicken, a drink, pita bread, salsa, and rice/mashed potatoes/cole slaw/corn/potato salad. This is a LOT of food for the average person. If you're into high-protein diets and lament the lack of options, this is the place to come. The only downside is the difficulty to eat healthy sides- corn is the closest one gets to a vegetable, as the salad is made of iceberg lettuce and tomatoes. Again, if you're paying $6 for half a chicken there's little room to complain, but if you think you can get a nutrient-dense side here, think again. The chicken itself is pretty moist, although sometimes the white meat can get dry. Definitely doesn't approach inedible or tough. One tip: be prepared for a long line during lunch hours and for orders to be taken while in line. Know what you want before coming in to avoid dirty looks and slowing down the process. read more
