Awesome, tasty BBQ! I love BBQ food. Anyway, I was walking in this area around noon and noticed the lunch special. Good BBQ usually has limited operating hours, so I don't go out to eat it much. Nonetheless, I was walking in the area and thought of dining in. The service was quick and great. Plenty of space to dine in around noon. Really great, tasty food, with many sauces to choose from, for the BBQ Pulled Pork sandwich. Nonetheless, I love good baked beans, so I tried theirs here. It's really tasty and great, with a robust flavor and brisket chunks. Definitely recommend this spot for lunch. Plus, when walking outside, you can see the Sears Tower. I came here for lunch around 1pm. When I got in 2 other people were ahead of me but the line moved quickly. I asked the worker there for their recommendation and they told me the burnt end sandwich was the go too and it sure was. The sandwich was phenomenal especially with the spicy sauce on top of it. Their chicken is great the only problem is they often don't have any. I've gone there early and they still had no chicken, yet it is still always on the menu. The staff is not very friendly, depending who you get. No "how can I help you" going on here, just a blank stare. Takeout orders do not benefit from napkins, which would be helpful when EATING BBQ. Sides are pretty good. I never seem to get enough BBQ sauce for the meal. The one thing I miss about going into the office is my frequent visits to Blackwood BBQ. I had not heard of Blackwood BBQ until they opened this location right up the street from my job. When they were opening a lot of my co-workers raved about the food so I of course needed to check out the food for myself. Depending on what you order the food can really add up that can be said about many of the restaurants downtown. The one thing that makes Blackwood BBQ different is that they give you large portions of meat they can easily make two sandwiches. Anytime I have visited Blackwood BBQI have been able to easily get a second meal out of my order. I typically get the platter and substitute the coleslaw for mac-n-cheese because who would pass up mac-n-cheese for coleslaw. I am a fan of getting two different kinds of BBQ sauce on the side because some of the sauces are not packed with flavor or they are runny so I blend my own sauce to get a decent BBQ sauce. The staff at the location has always been very friendly and kept the line moving. The restaurant was always busy pre-COVID so I don't see that changing with various offices opening back up. Blackwood BBQ has opened near my office by the Sears / Willis Tower, as they recently had a popular Grand Opening giveaway where peeps lined up around the block for a free lunch. I had been to another Blackwood BBQ location previously and liked the food, so I was looking forward to giving this new spot a try when there was not a crazy queue. I came pretty early (just past 11AM) so there was a minimal line on this day. During my brief time in the venue, a cool Ike and Tina Turner cut was blaring to get you into the mood. My lunch order was served quickly by the friendly staffers so that I could run back to the office and eat it. The beef brisket platter comes with pickle slices and cole slaw. For a 99 cent upcharge I switched the cole slaw for a gruyere mac & cheese side. The beef brisket was melt-in-your mouth tasty. I asked for the Chicago style BBQ sauce, which was sweet and drenched the tender slices of meat. The pickle slices are pickle slices, but the gruyere mac & cheese side was a yummy choice. Blackwood BBQ is not cheap, so you can really ring it up if you start to add more sides or a beverage, though I might be curious to try one of their shakes someday. read more

First time trying this location - recommended to me by a coworker. Initially I didn't have any expectations coming here, after trying I wouldn't come back. I tried the BBQ Tacos with Brisket, & I've had way better. The presentation was sloppy & the amount of toppings/sauce was bare minimum. One thing I will say, the veggies were fresh - especially the cilantro!!! I was given dried limes which isn't fun either. Overall, the food wasn't bad but wasn't the best. Hands down the best BBQ in Chicago, and one of the best lunch places in the loop. Their meats are tender and fall off the bone. The sauces are all great! Their sides are quite tasty with a Mac and cheese, beans, and rolls. I think it would be fantastic if they offered green beans or a green vegetable but this is comfort food so it's not your every day meal. Their salads are excellent but it doesn't take the place of offering well prepared vegetables as sides. There street parking available but I wouldn't recommend you parking in a spot that's not allocated for parking. Seriously this is the loop and they are not afraid to ticket or tow! read more

I've been to a few Blackwoods and have to say this one has the coolest space. I've never been to Austin but this is what I envision hipster BBQ places there to look like. One of the most notable things about this place is the service - friendly and super fast. Yes, they're fast, but they're still human so you can expect a line at lunch on weekdays. We came around noon and waited 10-15 minutes. Got the brisket platter with Kansas City BBQ sauce and mac & cheese and was quite pleased. Meat was tender and flavorful, sauce had a bit of a kick (though I personally wouldn't call it spicy, contrary to their sign), and mac & cheese had a crispy breadcrumb top. Oh yeah, it was also a really solid portion size. There was some pretty thick brisket slices so consider a knife (and fork). If I were to do it again, I'd request more BBQ sauce because that sauce was prime and there just wasn't enough of it to cover all that meat! read more

Blackwood BBQ's newest location serves up tasty BBQ that doesn't set you back with the cost. It's a nice spot to grab a quick bite. I happened to notice it nestled under the parking garage on my walk to the office one morning. Having been to other Blackwood locations I knew I had to make a visit. There was no disappointment. They piled my Pulled Chicken Sandwich HIGH with meat and smothered it in the sauce of my choice. It was a messy sandwich, but a very good messy. As a side I went with the Brussel Sprouts and found them to be a bit under-cooked. Oh well. What really makes this spot neat is the decor, a true "BBQ pit" feel with a decent selection of seating. Given that I had a sandwich and a side and it was just over $11 I was more than content. You almost can't beat it for the size of the sandwich. My experience was very enjoyable at Blackwood and I know I'll be coming back again in the future. read more

I've been here a few times and have tried the Brisket, Pork, Burnt Ends, Mac & Cheese, and Baked Beans. All of which is mediocre to bad. The mediocre is the Brisket, Mac, and maybe the Burnt Ends. The pulled pork is dry and flavorless. The baked beans are the worst looking beans I've ever seen at a BBQ restaurant. The coleslaw is exceptionally terrible. For two people, it costs about $50 when tax is include. Will likely never give it another shot unless I'm out of options and want some passable Brisket. read more

I am done with this place for good! And yes, I know the BBQ is decent enough. I tried to order for our staff of 4 about a month ago and they were out of salad at 11am. Today they closed their website down to new orders. When I called, they again could not take my order for 4 salads. This time they were too backed up! It was 11am. I am tired of hearing this "short staff" excuse because that does not explain the shortage of lettuce situation. In any event, this is the second time I wasted my morning gathering staff orders. I have had the brisket, brussel sprouts, pecan pie shake, and chicken. Every item is amazing. You have your choice of different styles of BBQ sauce from different regions. Each one is incredible. Do NOT skip dessert. The Pecan Pie Shake was ridiculous. So good! The staff is incredibly fast and they radiate positivity. I honestly enjoy everything about this restaurant. Had lunch here, been a couple of times...there's always some issue. First, what kind of place steers you away from ordering a la carte and meat by weight? I asked for a 1/2lb of brisket. The response, "Oh, so you want a platter". Then it was explained to me that even though the platter says 1/2 lb, it's 7oz "on the scale". WTF? Then I ask for 1/4lb of chicken. Confusion again. Had lunch with my brother in law this past summer. I like what they did with this new location, a little rustic and comfortable. For how busy it was, they sure serviced the queue of customers very quickly! The BBQ? Delectable! Their pickles were memorable too being sweet and spicy at the same time which balanced the rich and savory profile of the pork. I'd come back for sure! I got the brisket platter(?). Usually, I go to Hog Wild in the south suburbs for a barbecue meal. I also order their platter. It comes with meat, two sides, corn and Texas Toast. Blackwood's is meat, coleslaw, pickles. I wonder which one I liked better? Plus, Blackwood served the food in a plastic to go container And I had to ask for the pickles(three slices). Now the brisket was good and I substituted beans for slaw. I really wanted to love this place as it's the top pick at my job. My coworkers need to get out more. read more

Alright so being in Houston and throughout the South you typically run into fairly good barbecue but I was honestly surprised to find such great offerings in the city. I believe this is their second or third storefront but first and foremost come hungry because the portion sizes are not to be understated. With a good mix of offerings from plates to sandwiches and even salads (if your going for something slightly healthier). They top on generous servings of tender smoked meats including brisket, pulled pork, chicken and sausage. The sides looked spectacular and although I didn't try them myself most everyone around seemed to enjoy them thoroughly. Went with a two meat sandwich mix of pork and sliced brisket they top that with a hearty helping of coleslaw and your choice of bbq sauce spanning most all the typical regional styles. The break was just perfect and didn't cave under the hearty and juicy filling. Definitely worth trying if your in town. read more

Yesterday was my 1st and likely last try of Blackwood BBQ on Adam's. I understand businesses are adjusting because of Covid and part of that adjustment is the cost of doing business in the loop as well. I don't actually mind paying a decent price for good food and appropriately sized portions and I am sympathetic and happy to patronize a business that does right by their customers, but what they SHOULDN'T DO is raise prices and shrink the food. That makes me feel like they are trying to pull the wool over my eyes, did they think people won't notice? Either raise prices and give the customer "regular" sized servings instead of kiddy or taste portions or lower the prices to match the servings. The taco offering is (1) "street size" (for those that don't know, maybe 2.5 or 3 inches in diameter) for 3.99 with meat and sauce of your choice, onion, cilantro- that's it! The sandwich prices are only 1-3$ less than the "platters" which only offer the sandwich with 1/2 lb of meat and sauce and slices of pickle and a side of coleslaw, not even a side of your choice? I didn't know that when I ordered because it would have been way more beneficial to order platters to at least have more meat for later. The size of sides are a complete joke. I have never seen a side that small that wasn't a sample. I got Mac N Cheese, It was about 2 inches in diameter and 1" thick, it fits in the palm of one's hand for 2.99 each. I thought I was being punked as I asked about 3 times if that was the real size. The taste for everything was Ok, not mind blowing and not out of this world. I am no stranger to epic mac n cheese- everything from homemade- grandma style to top restaurant Lobster mac n cheese and "Great BBQ" in the city, so I know what's epic and what is acceptable portions. I grew up with Ringo's, DDS, Curt's, Lem's, I-57,etc. Most of the entrees were Chicken, Rib tips, links, ends or combos and their sides were fries with lots of sauce. They sold Large, Small and Mini and you got great portions and good food for reasonable prices in every choice. It appears that the new trend downtown is becoming fru-fru options for overblown prices. This is NOT A good look. read more

This place has its flavors down but the size of the sides were a little small compared to the main (maybe take off half a star) but that could because they really do put a large portion of brisket on their platter.
