Cheese Burger w/ fries and onion rings.

Food was bland. The onion rings actually tasted like the same batter they fry their perch fish in. The burger patty had no seasoning. I'm sure we won't be back.

Yes, that's ONE order of the fried chicken sandwich!

See the pic for the fried chicken sandwich. The onion rings are hand breaded and amazing. Great customer service as well!

This visit to Chicken King started off bad. I placed an order for pick up and I didn't check it. Once I got home the food was correct. One of the salads was made completely wrong and he other had hard lettuce stems in it. I gave them a call back and after speaking to the manager/ owner , Theo gave me the option to bring the food back for a refund or to have it remade. I stated I wanted a refund. I didn't want to drive back today but they told me to bring the food back either today or tomorrow for a refund. I decided to go ahead and drive it back today. Who wants old food they can't eat sitting at their house. Once I got there Theo spoke with me and stated he would refund me and would remake the food. I think that was really noteworthy that he remade the food and gave me my money back. Overall this turned a horrible experience into a good one. The food was a lot better and they made sure everything was made correctly. Chicken King 13215 General Dr Charlotte, NC 28273 Thursday August 6, 2020 2:30pm

I have been here several times.I have always had very good service. And the food is exceptional, very clean restaurant.

I give this location a 2 because it's not somewhere I would prefer to eat. However it's still ok. I ordered the fish and shrimp meal and it was my first time visiting. The lady at the register didn't speak English she only knew the items that was on the menu. When I asked for the fish to be cooked a little longer she had to ask someone else what did I say. The order still came out wrong but not only that the quality of the food just wasn't up there. Very greasy and sloppy. The food is very much rushed and more of a older feeling nothing special.

    Chicken Philly with fries.

First time trying this spot last night (1-18-19). So far so good! We ordered two chicken Phillies. The sandwich was a nice size and it came with French fries. Nothing fancy just a place to get a quick bite to eat. The chicken Philly was good, plenty of mozzarella cheese on it and good soft bread. My only critique is that they should include a 20 ounce drink with the plates at the $8+ price.....I should not have to spend $10 to add a drink. Especially when you look at the fact that Cookout is right across the street from them and you can get a sandwich, two sides and a huge drink for $5! Second visit to Chicken King recently and unfortunately I have to lower my stars from 3 stars to two. Ordered the chicken Philly which is the same thing that I ordered the first time. This time the sandwich barely had any cheese on it and the French fries that come with it were not freshly cooked......taste like they were cooked and left sitting around. Maybe they had an off day or a different cook.....will try another time.

Occupying a former Sonic, but with all the drive up stuff removed and just a simple drive through remaining, there's a very small area to line up and then place your order. It's burgers and fries and chicken wings, mostly. Some salads, too. At lunch time, the place was packed with pickup trucks and work vans as the place was full up with blue collar workers getting their lunch on. I heard lots of orders for the "chicken wing dinner" being called out, so I'm guessing it's good? I just had a grilled chicken sub and it was decent. A lot of hot chicken, chopped into cubes and served with the usual fixings and then topped with provolone cheese. Tasty. And a big mess of fries too.

Plain chicken philly, added my own seasoning salt to the fries

Chicken king is nothing fancy but it gets the job done. I routinely order the chicken philly from here and it never disappoints. They are very generous with the amount of chicken that they give you. The fries... definitely need work. The service is typically fast and friendly, they have a drive thru but I've never utilized it. Definitely worth a visit for a quick bite to eat.

Called ahead, pulled up, was warmly greeted, my order was being completed, & I had an enjoyable lunch! 1st time on the Po-Boy, & I must say... I was 'not' disappointed. Like the adage says... "You get what you pay for"!!!

This place was awesome. Not paying attention I ordered a buffalo chicken sandwich and it's not on their menu. As I was settling on something else they stopped me and ask what I would like. I told them and they made it!!!! The sandwich and service were top notch!! Thank you!

Optimist Hall itself is a very food-centric, upscale food hall with a ton of vendors, so the atmosphere is energetic and fun. Seating can be a little challenging during peak dinner hours since so many people are grabbing food from different spots, but when the weather is nice there's plenty of outdoor seating. Harriet's keeps their burger formula refreshingly simple. It's a classic smash burger done right--made to order with a straightforward menu that doesn't overcomplicate things. There's usually a line, but it moves pretty quickly, and the burgers come out hot and fresh. One of the best parts of eating here is the flexibility of the food hall experience. While you're waiting, you can grab a craft beer, a glass of wine, or even browse for dessert from one of the other vendors. Insider tip: Come with a group if you can. It's a great place to share fries and let everyone explore different vendors around the hall. Parking is fairly easy with the nearby garage, which makes the whole experience even more convenient. Overall, Harriet's is a fun, delicious stop for a smash burger, especially if you're already enjoying the energy of Optimist Hall.

I live super close to Optimist Hall, so it's been on my radar for a while. This particular night I wasn't feeling great, so I DoorDashed instead of dining in. I ordered the Royale with crispy fries and let me just say... I get it. The burger was genuinely impressive. The quality of the beef stood out immediately. Juicy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. The meat to bun ratio was spot on, which is crucial. Nothing worse than a bread heavy burger. The lettuce and tomatoes were fresh, the build was balanced, and even after delivery, everything held up beautifully. So far I've tried two burger spots in Charlotte, and this one takes the top spot. I'm not ready to declare it the best in the entire city just yet because my burger tour is ongoing, but right now it's leading the race. I'll definitely be going to Optimist Hall soon to try it fresh off the grill and experience the service and atmosphere firsthand. Expect an update. But based on this first round alone, Harriet's is absolutely worth the order. Burger lovers, this one deserves a try.

As a West Coast transplant now living in Charlotte, I have very specific standards when it comes to…read moreburgers. For me, the gold standard isn't fancy -- it's balance. Think that perfect meat-cheese-bread ratio you get at an In-N-Out: not too big, not too messy, not dripping everywhere, but still juicy and satisfying. A burger you can actually pick up and enjoy without resorting to a knife and fork like George Costanza. That's why I appreciate Ace No. 3. Their menu is refreshingly simple -- burgers, fries, shakes -- and that simplicity tells me they know exactly what they do well. Everything is made to order, and the consistency shows. The Ace burger is my go-to, and it delivers every time. The shoestring fries are excellent, and the sweet potato tots are another favorite. I've also treated myself to a milkshake here and there, and they're worth it. Fun bonus: they offer "boozy shakes" for adults, which adds a playful twist -- just note they have to be enjoyed on site. They also keep a short, rotating list of beers, which I appreciate. It's curated, not overwhelming. One thing I noticed recently -- and as a fellow marketer, I have to applaud this -- is their milkshake happy hour from 2-4 PM. That's a smart strategy to drive traffic during slower hours between lunch and dinner. Simple, effective, and well executed. A few practical notes: Parking can be a little tight because the lot behind the restaurant is small, but if you go during off-peak hours or order ahead for pickup, it's manageable. The Belmont neighborhood location is easy to get in and out of, and while it's not a high-traffic pedestrian area, that can actually work in your favor. Bottom line: As someone who grew up with West Coast burger culture, this is the closest I've found in Charlotte to that classic, satisfying bite -- even if it costs a bit more than In-N-Out. The quality and execution make it worth it. Get out there, eat well, be curious -- and follow me as I continue eating my way through Charlotte.
