IDK if the likley customers of Ati-Atihan read Yelp reviews but nonetheless the food here deserves special mention. If you like ceviche, you have to visit this place. They have their version called Kinilaw, which is to die for! The servers don't know what ceviche is so ask for Kinilaw. It's the sauce that just makes this over the top. It has this hint of coconut and calamansi(Filipino Lime). The veggies they pair it with is a perfect combination fresh and sweet. The chicken Inasal is also out of this world. I don't know what the marinade is, but it's amazing. The only draw back is the long for wait for the food. It does come out tasty and juicy. It also comes in pork but I prefer the chicken. We also had the lechon kawali. No complaints, crispy, crunchy pork with fat that's beautifully rendered. So be patient and you'll be rewarded. My wife and I came here for lunch today while we were in the area. We ordered the Chicken Inasal/pork skewer combo and also an order of Kinilaw. Everything was fantastic! We eat a lot of Filipino food as my wife's Filipina, and compared to some other Filipino restaurants in the Chicago area, this was really really good. Kinilaw was perfect with fresh fish, tabon-tabon marinade and a hint of spicy chilis here and there (not overwhelmingly spicy at all). Pork skewers were also on point with great flavor and a nice char. Chicken was the same... So good. There were a lot of other items on the menu that we want to try so we will be back for sure. Wish they had fountain soft drinks rather than canned, but no big deal. Service was good as well. I recommend you check this place out if you're in the area. This is long overdue, my updated review. Chicken Ati-Atihan was my go to before they moved to this new location and I like this place even more because they're even closer to my casa. I do enjoy the friendly greetings and service and my favorites remain - the lumpia, caldareta, nilaga (beef) soup, and the halo-halo ice cream dessert!! Chicken Ati-Atihan is Home of Filipino Food from their Calamansi juice to their Pancit (Filipino noodles) to their Lumpia Shanghai (Beef Crunchy Eggrolls). The Service here was amazing where the ambiance felt like I was back at home eating at my Filipino grandmother's place. They do a great job with Halo-Halo, which shaved iced filled with yam, red beans, corn, jackfruit, gelantin, and Ube Ice Cream. They have no relocated from Morton Grove down to Niles and the Niles location is even bigger. We ordered a little bit of everything and were so full with even some leftovers to take home. The sisig and pocherong bisaya were my stand outs. The soup was so good! However, the sinigang I think was a little bland. Portion sizes were great, the halo halo was regular size but we actually shared one. The place is very unassuming as it is located smack dab in the middle of this massive strip mall. It almost gets lost in the enormity of the strip mall. If you know of how good Filipino egg rolls are, these are even better since they are made with chicken instead of pork. The bbq chicken was made with the white meat part of the chicken and was sliced off of a hen. The bbq flavor just oozed from the meat. Right at the border of Chicago and Niles is where this charming restaurant is. A total breeze to get to and the murals on the walls are very cool. This is a very casual place for everyone, Filipino or not. The menu is easy to understand. I wish they had more selections (maybe a lechon kawali kare kare or Filipino breakfast but I do understand they are just trying to see what works but I would have liked more variety. We had the chicken fried rice and that was decent but I am very curious to try the mango bagoong (shrimp paste) fried rice. I'm not aware whether it's some sort of family-owned situation or not, but the place is well-worn and comfortable, like it's been operating for a long time. Yes, they do recommend calling in your food ahead. We did not. But it still didn't take too long - just don't gamble on a quick lunch turnaround if you didn't preorder. I noticed (cause eavesdropping and we were waiting) there were a lot of people calling in their orders ahead of time. The pork lumpia was fresh and delicious. The BBQ pork sticks were portioned generously and the prices were right on. They claim to be the best chicken inasal in town. Maybe they're right. Everything they served us here was so fresh! They do recommend that you call in your order ahead of time. (They're making it that fresh!) But they were able to accommodate us even though we hadn't done that. The food was definitely worth a little extra wait. Great flavors on the chicken and the pork. Chicken Inasal tastes good, although I remember a much better portion for the price. The large crispy pata seems to go out of stock pretty often. We also had soup that was sooo salty. Not much to tell you. Walked in and was told they are too busy to seat us and that we needed a reservation. The the reason for my low stars is because nowhere on their website does it mention the need for a reservation and afterwards I checked their website to find the only way to make a reservation was via phone call which is also very inconvenient. Initially we wanted to get the pocketing bisaya but they said they were out.. even though we got there right when they opened.. we' The lumpia was good, came out fresh and really good flavor inside. The fish tinola was pretty bland.. I could only taste the ginger.. we added salt but Injust chose not to eat it. My son and I went on a Tuesday for lunch. Nice clean restaurant, very busy at lunch time. After ordering we were told it would take 30-40 minutes for us to get our food. We arrived before the restaurant started getting the lunch rush but I think some people ordered ahead of time. We started with an order of lumpia which were good and a nice size order. When our food arrived I ordered the chicken special it had a good flavor but was extremely overcooked my son had pork and noodles which was good. With tip it was almost a $50 lunch for 2 people.
