I ate here recently for my first time and overall I liked it and would eat here again. The service was fast, my order was accurate, the chicken seasoning and the sauce tasted good, and I love that there's vegan options. I ordered the vegan sandwich with vegan lemon dill sauce and spicy fries. I went with mild, but had a difficult time deciding between mild and medium. Mild had spice and heat, but it was was less spicy than the spicy fries (which were quite spicy, in my opinion) and I'd like to try medium but I'm hesitant because from photos and videos I've seen, it looks like there's a huge jump between mild and medium. My only complaint is that I found it confusing to decide which heat level to get and what the sauce situation is. If you order a side of fries, I believe it comes with a sauce. But if you order a sandwich that comes with a side and sauce, it is one sauce total (not the sauce that's part of the side plus a separate sauce). The sauce gets placed on the sandwich (a little bit on the top bun and on the bottom bun) and it kind of blends into the flavor of the sandwich. Next time, I'll know to pay extra for an extra side of sauce so that I'll be able to have some to dip the fries into. They had packets of ketchup available on the counter and I used that this time. In my photo, the "chicken" looks small, but I assure you it was large enough and filled the bun, it just got shifted during assembly and I didn't think to straighten it out before taking the photo. read more

This was my first time at MRM. I don't like to give bad reviews, but I'm also honest. I personally just wish I would of read the reviews while walking around MRM and before I chose this place to eat out of all the other choices I could of gone with. The chicken is served on a dry, nothing on it... piece of bread and I think it was just for seeping up the oil. Let's talk about the oil, SO MUCH of it. The honey mustard wasn't that good. After the first sauce, each sauce is .85 cents. I went back up and paid for the bbq sauce, because the honey mustard just wasn't doing it for me. The fries were honestly the only good thing. As far as the venue: Where we sat (right on the side of Chicken and the Wolf) it was VERY loud. Doors constantly slamming, dishes being dropped off at the trash can. I think this might be the only time I've given a restaurant one star. It was horrible. My husband and a I both ordered chicken sandwiches and one order of fries to split. They did not put any kind of dressing on the sandwiches such as mustard or mayonnaise. You had to buy a dressing for 75 cents to $1. None of them sounded good and I didn't like paying that much for a mayonnaise substitute for a sandwich that already costb$11 plus change, so I just ordered mine dry. When we got our sandwiches, we discovered they got our order wrong. They brought us 2 orders of fries instead of one and they charged us for two. They also brought us crinkle fries instead of straight fries. Plus they were out of ketchup. We had to pay when we ordered, so we couldn't have the fries just taken off the check. I asked them to exchange the crinkle fries for the straight fries we ordered. They said they were out, so I asked for our money back. Then they suddenly had more straight fries after all. The breading was extremely greasy and extremely salty. I have a tolerance for greasy fried food, but this tasted like it might have been old grease. We both pulled the breading off and just ate the chicken by itself. We tried to eat some of the fries but they weren't good without ketchup, so we left the fries along with the buns. Stopped by Mother Road Market while we were in Tulsa and got the Nashville chicken sandwich here and oof, we weren't too delighted with the chicken sandwich. The bread itself was so stale and so dry that it made the sandwich as a whole inedible. The chicken itself actually tasted pretty good, but the sandwich lacked sauce and I think there was probably one pickle in it. Fries were pretty good though! Loved that they were crispy and seasoned well. Service was fast, and courteous though! I ordered the OG sandwich (with hot level of spiciness) and coleslaw as a side. The sandwich was made to order I supposed, as they give me a disk that rang when my order was ready. It didn't take long at all, so I appreciated the promptness of this place. Overall, I thought the chicken sandwich was wayyy too spicy for what it should be. The level that I ordered was 4 out of 5 and I thought it was wayyy too much (coming from someone who comes from a country that is abundant of spicy food). I just couldn't imagine how anyone would order a 5 at all given the level of spiciness was wayyyy too much. I even think they may want to just take level 5 out of the menu. Honestly, the chicken sandwich was ok. I managed to finish it (with a couple of glasses of water) but it wasn't too pleasant of an experience. Oh no! Bummed! My friend and I wanted to share the vegan hot chicken fries. Lets be perfectly clear the chicken was good and the lemon dill sauce was good. That being said, the fries were not good they were cool and dry, there was barely enough sauce to cover the chicken let alone reach the fries, and sadly there were no pickles as stated came included. There was however plenty of lettuce between the chicken and fries which ultimately threw us off and again made it impossible for sauces to reach fries. I started peeling away the breading to get to some actual chicken and when I finally did find some chicken it was about 1/3 the size of the massive slab that I had originally received. They also have no ketchup or mayo but they do have some house sauces that they will sell you for an up charge of 75 cents to a dollar. The whole food hall was crowded and noisy with insufficient seating. The drink dispenser adjacent to this place was out of order so they directed us to an another dispenser at the far end of the hall. Oh, and they messed up our fries order as well. The sandwich comes with your standard cayenne seasoned crinkle cut fries. This place is located in a food court with both indoor and outdoor dining. Recently went back to MRM. I went in with the intention to try a different place than last time, but I just couldn't resist the awesomeness that is Chicken and the Wolf, so I ended up here again. Last time, I got the hot level. I really liked it, and the spice level was great, but something about the flavor itself was a bit bitter to me. So this time I decided to go down a level with the medium. Really enjoyed this choice!!!! I felt like it was barely less spicy than the hot (so I was happy that going down a level I didn't really have to sacrifice any of the heat) but I thought the flavor overall of the medium level was better. Like I said, it was still nice and spicy, but it also had maybe a little sweetness to give it a bit more dimension instead of just bitter spice like the hot level, in my opinion. I found it funny that even at the medium level they asked me "are you sure?" as I placed my order. I guess they're just trained to do this with anything above the original or mild levels... it's probably for the better since I imagine it's spicier than people would first assume. Also wanted to update on the sauce. I liked the dill sauce the first time so I ordered it again, and it seemed even better! Must have been an extra yummy batch of it that day. I also felt the need to mention something I noticed, that the dill sauce tastes more like pickles than their actual pickles that are served with the chicken!!! Haha! Lastly, it was a bit busier than the first time I was there but it still wasn't terrible. There were maybe 5 or 6 people in line before me here, but the service was quick. As much as I hate writing bad reviews, I feel like there's a need to write one for this place. If you're a fan of Chicken and the Wolf, stop right here. If you have never been here before, please continue reading for your benefits. In nature, wolf eats chickens but at Chicken and the Wolf this is not the case because its restaurant mascot is a chicken riding on top of a wolf (see picture). So I know my Yelpers are intelligent and find this idea difficult to believe. Allow me to explain how this is possible. This is possible because the fried chicken here is so BAD that a hungry wolf would rather be starved to death than to eat the chicken. Please allow me to elaborate further. Where to begin...This place is probably the second worst fried chicken I've had. For me when it comes to fried chicken, the batter has to be thin and crunchy crispy. At Chicken and the Wolf, the batter is so thick that it forms a protective turtle shell around the chicken. When the batter is this thick, it doesn't stick to the chicken and it's hard after being fried. If you take a bite, the batter breaks off. So what you end up eating is just batter and later chicken. Look at how much bigger the batter coating is to the chicken from my picture. More batter also means more oil is being absorbed. Below each piece of my fried chicken, I can see a puddle of oil condensing below. Not good...not good at all. But let's focus on some positive things now. There's a spice level that you could choose and medium is quite spicy. The fries are okay. I like the stubborn drink. And this place is located inside the Motherroad Market. read more

We had the pleasure of having lunch here yesterday at MRM, with all the other great options we struggled before deciding on Chicken and the Wolf. My husband ordered the Nashville Mild and said it was blazing hot and one of the best chicken sandwich's he has had in a while (yep, better than the Popeyes chicken sandwich). Of course I had the Vegan, which was lightly breaded and tasted absolutely perfect; I skipped on the lemon dill sauce but no regret it because I was told it pairs perfectly. I expected the fries to be subpar, but I was wrong they use coarse sea salt and a cayenne seasoning mix perfectly seasoning the handful of fries given with your order; if you like a lot spicy of fries you may want to request an additional order. No it's shredded lettuce which I detest on a sandwich, TELL ME THAT ON YOUR MENU. Second, it comes with pickles. I like pickles. To be fair, both times I've had it as take out, so keep that in mind as you read this review- the best meals lose a little something when you don't eat it right after the order. That being said, I thought it was okay. People talked about the spice level being crazy hot, so I tried mild the first time. It literally had no heat. Then, the next time I tried the extra hot. It was better. Actually, it was a lot better. It wasn't smoke-out-my-ears hot, but it was good and flavorful. The tang of the coleslaw and their pickles was nice. The fries were tasty, too. It's a big old honking piece of chicken though. I know that's what a lot of people want, but I personally wish it was pounded a little thinner. That said, it's worth a try. My wife and I love this place. We come here almost every time we come to Mother Road. I always get the medium and she always gets the extra mild. When we got our order mine was fine but my wife's was obviously not extra mild just from one or two bites and they had the wrong number of tenders. I tried it myself to be sure. No big deal...mistakes happen. I went to the course there to let them know and see if we could rectify the situation. They were completely rude and treated me like I am idiot that did not understand how to order. The "manager" was called to the front amongst eye rolls from the staff. She informed me in the most condescending " I'm talking to a stupid person" voice, that they can't help me and would not refund or remake the order. We set out to have a lovely and relaxing Sunday afternoon and this was how it started off. We will not be coming here again. Beware if you're sensitive to spice. I can typically handle spice when it seems to contribute to the complexity of the dish. This just seems to be spice for the heck of it. You can rate your food - but every time I've gone and tried it on the lighter end of the scale, it hasn't been enjoyable food. Their fries are some of my favorite in town though. My first trip to MRM and this was why I stopped by, I couldn't have made a better decision. The chicken sandwich ai ordered was "hotter" aka medium and I was quite pleased. It didn't melt my face off and it didn't require a drink after every bite but was the perfect amount of spice. I ordereded the lemon dill sauce on the side, just for fun in case I needed to cool off but I didn't require it. However, I did try it and it was an excellent accompaniment. The pickles on the sandwich we a perfect tartness and the slaw added an extra layer of texture. The bun was durable enough to hold up and all around a perfect chicken sandwich.
