Average fast food chicken. The sandwich is bland and I don't understand why people like the waffle fries.

(Cuban sandwiches in Pigeon Forge?!! Yes, I know: WTF?!!) Anyway, I could not locate the frigging Cuban sandwich place. Apparently, it is illegal to display street numbers on Pigeon Forge's main drag, and I guess the Cuban cafe was too well hidden among the go-kart tracks, fighting lumberjack dinner shows (again, WTF?), Jesus stores located two doors down from sex-toy shops, video arcades, and the whole cornucopia of cheapo crapola that is Pigeon Forge. After a couple of U-turns in the area where I thought the Cuban spot was supposed to be, I could not escape Pigeon Forge soon enough and made a bee-line southward. And I couldn't face Gatlinburg, either, so I hit its bypass. I proceeded in the crawling traffic through beautiful Smoky Mountain National Park. (To you Alabamians in the F-150, your garganturan vehicle will do just fine above 25mph in the quarter-inch of slush at the higher elevations.) I drove through sleepy and sad Cherokee, North Carolina, and past Sylva, seeing few places to stop for a bite and developing a seriously gnawing hunger. Finally, I arrived in Franklin. Running a bit late and starving by this time, I thought "fast food," and I saw Bojangles. Bojangles!! I'd heard of the wonders of Bojangles fried chicken and biscuits for years, but for some reason had never been to one. Well, Bojangles, you ain't no Popeyes. At least not at your Franklin, North Carolina location: bland, dry fried chicken that was barely above room temperature, bland "Cajun" beans that were mouth-scaldingly hot by contrast. The biscuit was pretty good, though. Fresh iced tea was the best thing about this meal. And the fact that the whole lot was only $5 and could be scarfed down in about five minutes. There were a couple of tables of old guys wiling away the mid-afternoon hours with coffee and iced tea. That sounds about right: probably five stars for that purpose.

The food itself is the quiet star. Each dish arrives as a small masterpiece of balance--flavors layered with intention, textures that surprise without gimmickry. In short, this is one of the very best restaurants I've ever visited--anywhere. It doesn't chase trends or demand attention; it earns it through quiet excellence. If you value food that respects both ingredient and diner, make the reservation. You'll likely find yourself, as I did, already planning the return visit. Highly recommended--worth every moment and mile, and we come from SWFL.

I chose the opal basil dish with scallops. I have celiac, so rice was the base for a gluten free option. My husband had the crawfish with cognac and pasta dish. The descriptions on the menu were very different, however the dishes seemed to have the same base sauce. And boy was it salty!!! My husband adds salt to everything and both dishes were too salty even for his taste. Hoping this was a one off and quality hasn't declined. On a better note, the gingerbread cake was top notch!!

I'm not used to this type of treatment and will take our business somewhere. The first incident involved their cash registers being down. We said no problem, we'pay cash. Then when we handed them a $1.00 off coupon at the register, the drive thru cashier threw our money back at my husband because she had said the register was down. The second incident was yesterday when my husband took the neatly bagged trash back to the store to dispose of it. The door he had recently used to go to the restroom was now locked, so he choose ro put the bag down at the door since there were no garbage cans outside. An employee came out as we were pulling away to yell at him and tell him that he should have put it at the dumpster at the other end of the parking lot, and how would he like it if they threw garbage in his car? All of this for a car displaying a handicapped tag, and a person, unbeknownst to them, who has early Alzheimers.

In looking at reviews on several sites, seems like this manager has been rude to many people. I guess it's a good thing we like Wendy's chili.
