This place is INCREDIBLE! The service was great, the food was amazing, the restaurant was clean. My husband said the tacos he ordered were the best tacos he's ever had in his whole life!! I'm so glad too because we were in town celebrating his birthday. I really enjoyed my tacos too and they had the best bean dip. We saw other tables with margaritas and they looked good too. Rancho Viejo is good restaurant. Chips and salsa are fresh as this place does a good business. My choice for lunch was the Lunch Pancho special which is chicken and shrimp with rice beans and a small salad. See pics. Very filling and hit the spot after a good hike in nearby Smoky Mountains National Park. All in all good value for the price paid. Service is so so here. Nice indoor dining and prefer the booths here. Gets busy at lunch time. Rancho Viejo say Whittier but it is basically Cherokee. Hard to find the first time. Look for FoodLion and Rancho Viejo is located in strip mall connected to FoodLion. The restaurants around here are limited and this is one of the best. Other more expensive options are in the casino up the street. read more

All I have to say is get the Pina Rancherita! This is a very unassuming Mexican restaurant by all appearances. It's in a strip mall and the inside of the restaurant looks like a really tired old Mexican restaurant. But once you get food, none of that matters. Good chips and salsa. I thought about getting some queso but I am glad I didn't as the main course was just so much! Let me describe the pina rancherita. It consists of a half of a pineapple hollowed out and filled with the most heavenly mixture of chorizo, chicken, mushrooms, onions, pineapple chunks and cheese. We are here on a vacation and had trouble finding anywhere to eat that looked decent in the area. We picked this restaurant based on reviews. Pros: prices were fair, portions were ample, restaurant and bathrooms were clean, and the service was quick. You can sit in a booth or at a table. The restaurant is small but the booths were comfortable. We had chips at our table immediately upon sitting. Cons: the food was very very bland which was surprising since Mexican is typically seasoned generously. I still want to give the business 5* though because in comparison to what else is around in the area it is much better. We did have the local police department come in and they were extremely rude. They sat down and had their radios blaring the entire time. I understand they need to have them on, but they could've turned them down. The food was good. But the service was terrible. I went in and told them that I had to be done in 30 minutes to go to a show at the casino. They said that would be fine but then left me without ordering for 15 minutes. I walked out without ordering we're getting my dinner. While I was waiting having chips and salsa I took out my dentures and laid them on the table. I left without taking them but when I came back after the show they said they didn't have them. Place is pretty big and airy inside. This place does not serve alcohol but we were fine with water and sweet tea. The waiter took our orders and about 15 minutes later our food arrived. Plates were hot and portions was decent.i ordered the steak with shrimp and rice. Shrimp was fine, the steak was overdone and dry. My boyfriend got the fish and he indicated it was good. Whenever I am in this area, I love coming here for a good Mexican food. And the times I was here with my family, always, always great encounters. This restaurant is in a busy mall strip an while that is the case, the parking is plenty. This place can get busy most times specially during dinner time as tourists, travelers, campers, and bikers, come here to fulfill their Mexican food cravings. I believe this is the only Mexican restaurant within the 5 miles radius hence the busy atmosphere. Thankfully, both times I was here, there was no wait times. While waiting for your order to be completed, they will serve you their home-made chips and salsa just like other Mexican restaurants. While I expect orders take forever for these types of chains, they completed our order quick. I normally order their shrimp and steak, and my parents would opt their shrimp, and chicken. I like the fast a service, I like the place, I like the staff-they make sure we are doing ok, and the food are perfect. The prices are reasonable. I love Mexican food, period. read more

We were looking for something to eat in Cherokee and found this Mexican restaurant. It's in a stripmall; only indoor seating. We ordered a vegetarian dish - the fajitas with cheese and cream on the side as I am lactose intolerant - and several sides to share. Service was fast and friendly and the place was big so it was easy to keep distance from other diners. Facemasks are mandatory as it seems everywhere in Cherokee at this moment in time. I don't trust a Mexican place with no margaritas! This place was dead. Completely dead when we walked in. That should have been sign #1. I ordered the choripollo and it was basically an ACP with sausage. Definitely not what I was expecting. It didn't even come with fresh tortillas. My husbands tacos (soft) were way to crispy and not foldable at all. Might as well have ordered hard shell. Thankfully we have much better places where I am from (RDU area).
