Many yummy options and the staff are friendly. Knocked a star because it gets rather crowded, so it feels like some patrons don't get the same attention as another, and the spice level is rather high for me. I prefer milder options and if someone wants spice, that gets added, but maybe it's more traditional to have the food start spicy. It isolates those of us with capsaicin sensitivity. I'm transitioning to a fully vegan lifestyle and it brings me so much joy that within walking distance I have a Mexican restaurant that serves amazing vegan tacos. Their food is really delicious, flavorful, filling, and affordable compared to other vegan locations that offer some of the same dishes that Chicana has been offering but unlike Chicana they lack the flavor and portions Chicana has which is definitely your money's worth! My top favorites are the original Cali Baerito(I sub the asada for jackfruit) and the Western BBQ burger with chili cheese fries so bomb! We've followed Chicana Vegan numerous times. Jasmine, Dan, and the rest of the crew are fantastic people and always taking care of us. Personal recommendations are Asada Fries and their Cali Burrito. Both are full of flavor and just hit the spot all the time. They load up the asada fries with the "meat" and a generous portion of toppings. The Cali Burrito is stuffed and I can never seem to finish it. Their burgers are also fantastic. Sometimes I go with the trifecta: burrito, burger, and asada fries. Got the Cali burrito and it definitely ranks up there in the vegan Mexican burrito category (which I noticed is becoming increasingly saturated in the LA/OC/SD areas). What really makes their food stand out is the FRIES. These are the best damn fries I've ever had. On top of that, I do like the compact presentation of the burrito. My update is that I tried the Cali Burger and I want to marry it. They just started fire grilling their burgers and they're legit. I must first point out that the food here is amazing. It is a vegan go to spot for sure. Unfortunately, though, I had a sad experience recently that I am posting this in hopes that it doesn't happen to any other customers in the future or that there may be another way of resolving the issue. We used to love going to Chicana Vegana, it was the one spot that had vegan options my son loved. Yet, we stopped going for a few months due to being out of town. I guess during this time our ToastApp was hacked and someone else was ordering from it, picking up the food, then the charges were being disputed and unfortunately Chicana Vegana had to refund the money. Upon us returning, we tried to go and order through ToastApp as we use to, but we were regrettably informed that due to the recent orders/activities in our ToastApp we were banned from ordering through there or even paying with card in person. We were told that the only way they would take our orders moving forward was if we paid cash. I completely understand from a business perspective that money was lost, and they are trying to avoid it from continuing happening. I just wish that there was another solution or more investigation was done, or toast app held more accountable, rather than us being held accountable for something we did not even know had been occurring. I felt as if I had been marked and felt ashamed being held responsible for something that I truly, honestly would have never done. In speaking with the Chicana Vegana individual, they were kind, and apologized for having to have the uncomfortable conversation with me, I have no ill words about them. I just wish as a loyal customer and a huge fan of their food something else could have been done because we ended up feeling singled out. We ordered our food for that day but decided we would not return. Having to pay cash each time, and after having that conversation in trying to prove our innocence, but still not being believed, I would feel seen as the "fraudulent" customer each time we went. We will truly miss going to Chicana Vegana, they have amazing food, and are doing amazing things for the vegan community. I know I am merely one customer less, but I was a very fond one of the business until this misunderstanding and I hope in the future there are other resolutions to avoid the issue happening with other customers. read more

I want to start this review by saying we were excited to try the food here. The pictures and reviews seemed promising. That being said, we weren't big fans of the food we ordered. We got: Taquitos, Al Pastor Tacos, Asada Taco, Carne Asada, Shrimp Tacos, Mexgogi (can't remember the name), and blueberry lemonade. What we liked: * Service - Food was ready promptly and didn't have to wait at all, the lady that helped us was friendly * Shrimp tacos - The texture for the "shrimp" is spot on...like crazy spot on. Tasted pretty good too. * Blueberry lemonade - Very refreshing! Perfect for the heat wave we're experiencing. What we didn't like: * Everything else - We don't understand all the rave reviews...we're no strangers to vegan food and vegan substitutes. Everything was just...bland? Couldn't put a finger on it. My first time here and it did NOT disappoint!! I didn't catch the gentleman's name who took my order but he was very welcoming and great at recommending what to get for my first time. By his recommendation I got three street tacos, each with a different protein: asada, carnitas, and al pastor. OMGGGG, he was spot on with the proteins I should try! The tacos were BOMBBBB!!
