I like coming here for my classroom decor, but I'd rather go to Target or Michael's. Joann's always…read morehas adorable decorations for holidays, and when the seasons are changing, they have some great clearance prices. However, when there are no sales, the prices are pretty expensive. Also, make sure to check what you are buying because many of the items on the shelf are broken in some way. Idk if customers break things and then just put them back on the shelf or if workers do, but most of the time, crap is broken. I've been coming here since I was a very young kid, and I used to hate coming here. I still wouldn't say I enjoy it now, but I don't dread it like I used to. It gets annoying because the employees are a hit or miss. Some are super rude and seem to hate their lives, others will do anything in their power to help you. I worked in retail before, and I know that sometimes bad days happen, but don't take it out on your customers. Once I asked for something glass to be wrapped and the old lady at the register glared at me and said they ran out of paper... you're a craft place that sells tons of glass... This place is never too busy, but sometimes when it does get a little busier, they have lines, but only one cashier. I've never seen a cashier ever call for backup at the register, even when they are drowning with customers.

This was always the place to go for fabrics. It was always well managed, well stocked and well lit…read more It's an absolute shame that the corporation filed for bankruptcy and now this store is closed permanently. But for the last ten years that my family shopped here, I give it Five Stars!

The most affordable and still charming place where I could find so many things I've found walking on Lawrence, when I just moved in, and visiting this store by accident.... A year ago I bought so many things for my place, not be able to afford much, but could find such great things, the effect was amazing and all of the things I bought are still in use. Recently I was in a search for a mattress, like queen or full size, and walked in waiting for my glasses to be fixed nearby. I got beautiful full size mattress, with brocade finish, very comfortable, breathable, and such good quality, for a beautiful price as well. Not just that, but also a free delivery, and help to get rid of my old, and very heavy mattress. ON SUNDAY, so flexible because I couldn't find time on any other day. It's very rare to ran into such polite and helpful people, as Samuel, guy who works there. He 's helpful as can be, funny and will make your day, on 5 languages as well :-D I will for sure come back very soon for my spring update :-)

There are at least 2 permanent Halloween / costume stores in this neighborhood. A typical Halloween store will have skinny aisles with messes strategically located within the aisles. The item that I had stopped here for was one they did have, but the website makes it look better than it is and in person it was pretty terrible and cheap looking and 25 bucks for it so I wasn't going to pay that. Admittedly, though, they do have tons of costumes, makeup, and so on for you to create a fantastic alter ego. Employee was semi helpful, but she seem to be the only one so wasn't able to help much. (It was the day before Halloween.) Their website says they have parking in the back at the Montrose store. I'm not sure where in the back because I went to the back and there was a parking spot beside the one that I was in and then a UPS truck backed into the only exit, which is truly only large enough for a single vehicle (he was inches from the curb on both sides). So I had to wait while the UPS truck picked up a bunch of packages because the entire way was blocked. Luckily, that only took about two minutes, but I still wouldn't park there because who knows how long it might take the next time. There's parking in the front on the street.
