If it weren't for an employee named Becky, I would have given this store 1 star. I was originally being helped by an employee named Sharrie (may be misspelled). She was indecisive about whether she could help me or not, scatter brained and then bossy, rude and rigid with other employees. It actually made me feel bad for her coworkers. Check out is ALWAYS ALWAYS so slow. You can't EVER walk in and quickly get anything. Best bet would be to go to Staples if you can next door is what you need is there. Employees seems always tired and in slow motion. Forget about trying to get assistance on the floor. One star because obviously Yelp makes you review a minimum of one star. Mixed thoughts here. On the plus side, I was looking for something pretty specific and an employee tried helping me. We went to various spots where the item could have been, but both of us decided finally decided that it just wasn't to be found. About five minutes later, the employee walked up and showed me something she had found - it was exactly what I was looking for. On the downside - every time I've been there the lines for the cashiers have been pretty long. Sometimes they move and sometimes they really don't. The last time I went, I went to purchase a dowel and thought it was going to be sixty-nine cents. I looked up and down and didn't see any other prices - other than that. But when I went to pay, it came up as $3.50. Not happy - but I needed the item and to run around looking for it elsewhere would have cost me as much or more. So, we'll see what future visits hold - but for now, three stars. read more

I rarely post reviews but today I thought I would vent my disappointment when there's a waiting line of customers 10 deep with 2 check out people and several others on the floor. Before I went to the store I searched my email to find this particular Michael's but I couldn't find even in my junk or spam inbox. This was strange #1 because I had been asked by the cashier at the checkout for it. On that visit, I searched for Winsor & Newton water mixable oil colour. At this time did see other 200 ml, the size I was looking for, but in acrylic for $9.99 boldly visible in the art isle. Being a very visual person I had that price in the back of my mind which did lead to my mistakenly thinking that all paints of this size were the same price. After looking for a good while, I asked for assistance because the water mixable oil colours were locked up behind a glass case. That should have alerted me to the fact that they were much more expensive; But since my brain was only thinking of rushing back to painting I could only think of the paint. When I went to pay, I was surprised when the bill was $10.00 more. The cashier asked if I still wanted it and I said "yes" because I needed if I were to continue painting right away. This was the only art store close by since I don't drive and rely on public transportation. When she ranged it up low and behold it was $9.99 instead of the $19.99 she told me. I thought that it had to do with her asking me for my email address because a few years earlier the Michael's in Chicago's New Town area had given me $10 off just for providing them my email address. And since, I was actively using another email address, I gave her the one I was using. So I shrugged the whole episode off. Until the next time. And, that is another review in it self. read more

This place is the best place to go if you're into arts and crafts or even if you need something for a school project. It has everything you will ever need to create your own creation. With its simple layout, you can find what you need easily. The employees are always willing to help out if you need it. If you're into arts and crafts, you can spend hours looking around and getting inspired for your next project. I myself love art and I love this place. As much as I want to rate Michaels higher, I just can't bring myself to. Don't get me wrong, the store is beautiful. It's huge, clean, and well organized. BUT, waiting for ten minutes to check out on a Monday afternoon is nuts. Reading the other reviews, it seems to be more of an isolated occurrence. It was a long commute home one day last week when I was inspired to take a detour and make my way to Michael's. I am not an arts and crafts kind of person but this place makes me want to become one. That is one of the reasons It's easy to lose track of time when shopping here. The other reason is because it's not easy to find things. I give this store 4 stars for not selling buttons. They sell fabric and yarn but no buttons. Thankfully, every time I approached a Sales Associate, she would smile and graciously assist me. When I couldn't find buttons, three helped me look but one came up with these wooden disks the size of buttons I was looking for. She suggested the person I was giving them to could customize the holes. I think this place has a better overall variety of arts and crafts projects and even though it's smaller, it's cooler than the Hobby Lobby I've been to in Palatine. read more

My husband and I wanted to frame his father's wedding gift painting to us, so we drove 40 minutes through bad Harlem Avenue traffic to pick up our stretched and framed painting....only to discover that our painting had been stretched, and...ta-da...put back in the same old frame. The guy in the framing department realized that they had forgotten to put it in the frame we ordered. For a several hundred dollar service (even with a 50% coupon) and 2+ weeks of waiting for our painting only to discover they had not completed the job, the service was shameful. The fact that they fixed the error in one day may be redeeming, but it's only proof that they could have had our painting properly prepared without an additional 80 minute drive on our part in about a day. read more

She was not helpful or tried to fix the issue. I understand these things happen but she was so rude. I'm so upset I didn't get her name but she is an older woman with red/orange hair. You guys falsify your store policy you don't honor competitors pricing even when proof is in your face, I did everything correctly with the proof of the item I wanted to purchase for a price match, one price show the item for $199. If I want to do a internet transaction and the other shows $54. If I want to walk in and purchase it but micheals say it has to be online and both prices was online advertising the same item with two different pricing...so why would I pay the higher if I can get it for lower.... A brand new Michaels arts & craft store is open across the street from the ~Hip, you say? FINALLY! The store is extremely clean, organized, and filled with employees that are willing to help you. A larger store compared to the old school ones, including a framing center at the back of the store. Awesome deals were going on when I visited there. So far I've been back twice this week! I do like Michaels. Great new addition to the area. I am a fan of their smaller carts making it easy to get down their sometimes smaller aisles. Also- if you sign up with them on the web, they send you GREAT coupons for as much as 50% off any item!! I would have to say my ONLY big gripe with Michaels- and it seems to be ALL Michaels- is that their lines after 5pm and on the weekends are miserable. Try to go during the day and avoid the weekend entirely. read more

As with all the other Michael's stores I've ever been in, getting up and down the aisles is a nightmare, even with those teensy carts of theirs. But I have to admit that their selection is really good, and of course since the store is shiny and new, it's really clean and well-organized. The staff is up and down in terms of their familiarity with the merchandise. They do try, but sometimes they just don't get what it is you're asking for. I wanted red cellophane or gel paper and I got led all over the store to look at scrapbooking stuff, and other paper products until we ran across an older worker who knew exactly what I meant. The kids will learn, but until then, you're probably going to have to do a little digging. And on my second trip there I ended up giving knitting advice to a gal who wanted to know the difference between aluminum and plastic needles. Surely someone there could have helped? Not that I minded, but still... One thing I don't like is that the checkout people have to answer the phone, too. That might seem like a good idea to corporate, but I can tell you it's infuriating when you're waiting in line to check out. However, the bottom line for me is that they had what I wanted. I can't say the prices are great. $11 for rubber cement?? But I've seen far worse, and I got a good deal on Xmas ornaments and some Halloween stuff, so it all shook out. Yay! finally a Michaels close to the HIP!! Ok, so I was pretty happy going in there the other day, maybe it was because I just happen to have good luck and get all the sales that day?? I dont know, but i hit the jack pot.....Im getting married and I found all the small little details I needed on SALE. I walked out a very happy person. I read below someone said their selection on silk flowers was not great, I dont know if you've been in their lately, but they have TONS and TONS now, I couldnt believe it...check it out! Went to the Norridge, Illinois store yesterday. Of course yesterday was the last day of the sale for a Football (could have been used for Boxing Glove display case at 50% off). I did not need 8 at one time but was willing to make the purchase for the sale price of $25.00 each. They did have 4 in the stockroom but were unable or not willing to write the order and I could have picked the remainder in a week, two or three weeks later. Little disappointed in the sales floor person to work with me. I even made the offer for a slightly more expensive case at a slightly reduced cost at the point of sale. I know it just my opinion but purchasing 8 at one time should have had a little more consideration. read more

Went to this Michaels for a custom frame project I was hoping to create. Worked with Holly one day to get a quote. Then Kathy to create and make final adjustments. The two were extremely helpful and understanding with my unique project. Kathy was very helpful and patient with assisting me with my vision for the project (2 hours working the computer layout software in the store). Pricing: Pricing for my project was within my budget (kind of went all out). I recommend waiting for Michaels to offer big discounts. I was able to take advantage of one of their weekly sales of 60% Off Modern frame + Addition 20% for a totally of 80% off final total price. So keep an eye out. I got a 40"x24" Modern Custom Frame with 17 openings, triple matted, and Masterpiece Glass for $400. Went to other framing places for my project and got additional quotes anywhere from $550-$750. So I definately got a good deal for my frame. Final Product: I was absolutely blown away by the final product. I could not have asked for any better. Took Michaels 13 days to complete my order.Picked it up and Kathy was there to ensure I was fully satisfied. They put cardboard over the glass and wrapped the frame in kraft paper for me to take home. I will definaltey come back for any future and unique framing projects. read more

When I saw bad reviews I was shocked! I had just placed an order and was beyond excited to pick it up, but when I called the store to see if my order was ready and they had no knowledge of it. After wasting 10 mins of my life on the phone I could never get back, I was advised to call corporate and waste another 20. They were eventually able to locate my order, but weren't sure why it was cancelled. When corporate doesn't even know why something happened, I loose all trust. They said they would honor the price. If you had a coupon you can't use some of them twice, but why would I want to go back and place another order for them to loose it again and waste more of my time. You would think they would offer you something for your troubles but no, they just want to help you re-order. Thanks, but no thanks! There were plenty of time I I went in with a coupon and didn't realize until I left that the coupon never went through, or there was a sale advertised in an area where the items weren't actually on sale. Poor customer service. Not at all knowledgeable. Christine, today 9/23/19, was not helpful at all. We asked if she knew about a specific product, she pointed at something completely different and didn't bother to call for help. If you don't know, say so. You'll get a better review for admitting that you need help and finding it. What's the point of a craft store if my vibe and excitement gets shit down by people who don't like their jobs?! I love this store! The associates and management are some of the nicest people I have ever encountered. Always a clean store and well stocked. Good amount of parking too for those of you that are wondering. My one complaint is not with the store, but the coupon policy. Not what you might be thinking though. I wish they would do away with it for the sake of the good people working there. I was just there just a couple nights ago to find a woman berate a kind manager that works there because she couldn't use 2 discounts on one item. She continued on about how she was a Girl Scout leader that spends so much money there (yada yada yada). As terrible as she was to him, i know that many other customers are just as classless to people following rules. Michael's.. Please.. Get rid of the coupons and just keep having amazing sales. read more

Just wanted to say that I took my mom for classes on jewelry and everyone was great!! The staff is full of information!!

Ordered an item for curbside pickup. Realized shortly after ordering that I no longer needed it. Called the store to see if I could cancel it. Was told they'd cancel it. A few days later I received an email stating my order still was not picked up and would be held until 2/14 then it would be returned to the shelves and I would not be charged. On 2/15 I received notification that my order had been picked up by my alternate pickup person listed and I was charged. Call the store the girl who answered told me she actually ran the charge because she didn't see the item on the pick up shelf anymore and assumed it was picked up. Made sure repeatedly to tell me it was not her fault implying it was my fault and the person who I talked to originally. After a while she said the manager agreed to credit me. Three days later still no credit. Called their 800 number. Was put on hold while they called the store. Finally was told the manager said I had no proof I didn't pick it up so they weren't refunding. The customer service rep said they also had no proof I did pick it up so she would override and she credited me. So customer service on phone was great but that store not so much. Also anytime I've ever been in there in person the checkout lines are ridiculously long and slow. read more

Went inside Michaels for some Christmas crafts and the line was so long but I was impressed by how fast the cashiers handled it. It was so busy it hard a little hard to find help but when I found help the employee led me to my item and even gave me tips on what to use for my crafts. Would totally come back again. read more
