I'd like to thank Erika and the entire staff of chic sugars for baking a beautiful and delicious birthday cake. All my guests were raving about it and we were all surprised and amazed by how moist, airy and flavorful was the vanilla cake, fondant so yummy everyone was asking for more, and chocolate ganache filling tasted like the best expensive chocolate you've ever had. I've had many of these custom cakes before and rarely they are well decorated and tasty at the same time, most times they're meh. The design is exactly what I wanted and came out even better than I expected. Everyone wanted to know where it's from. I ordered a beautiful pillow cake with a crown for my daughters birthday. I was beyond excited to celebrate her special day and I was told that the minimum price for a custom cake was $225. Although it seemed high, Erika assured me that it would serve 25 people, and I decided to take the plunge. While I communicated with her, things were great, and when it was time to pay she told me that there would be an additional charge bringing the cost up to $260 due to delivery. I told her I don't mind picking up the cake, but she insisted that she deliver it and charge her fee. When you insist that your cake be delivered, you really shouldn't be tacking on an extra fee. But I told myself this would be worth it... She had great reviews so why worry? Yesterday she arrived at the party and delivered the cake... From the backseat of her car... With no box... I said nothing, because the cake was lovely and pretty much what I had asked for in terms of design. We all stood by in awe of the cake.... Although it was tiny, it was beautiful. We sang and cut the cake, and that is where the disappointment seeped in. Not one person, including the kids, could even finish half of one slice. I kid you not, not one person. The adults took a bite, looking at each other, something's wrong here.... It was so incredibly dense it tasted like squished super heavy bread. Nothing sweet, nothing light, nothing cake like about it all. I contacted her and told her that it was beautiful but I paid for a cake, not decorated bread... I told her she should refund a portion of the money. Of course she refused, told me she tried the shavings and they "didn't taste bad", like all I wanted was a cake that didn't taste bad... I have her an extra star for the fact that it was beautifully decorated, but my warning is definitely have a taste before you order, save yourself the time and cost of having guests who won't eat the cake. read more

My wife and I recently celebrated our 5th anniversary with a party. Around 35 people were going to be there, family and close friends. To commemorate the occasion, we wanted a two-tier cake that lived up to our nerdiness, centered around some video game symbols and designs. I had been getting the run-around from a larger bakery chain (after having made the reservation) about whether the cake would actually be ready in time, so I decided to call around and see if I could find a backup option. Fortunately for us, one of those calls was to Chic Sugars. Shortly after another fruitless "I'll see what I can find out" phone call with a manager from the aforementioned chain, Erika called me back. She spoke for all of 30 seconds, and what I heard was so reassuring, so ridiculously accurate to our vision for this cake that I immediately called back the manager I'd just spoken to and cancelled the old order. Erika and I spoke again a few hours later, got everything worked out in detail, and got the signing and billing done that night. Everything is done digitally, so I didn't even need to leave the house! I left off that night having placed my trust in Erika to make this cake happen in four days. It turned out that my trust was extremely well-placed. The cake was on-time, delivered personally by Erika herself. It looked absolutely perfect, and... I don't think "delicious" is a vivid enough word. Her cakes need to be tasted to be believed. Everyone at the party was in awe of this cake. To summarize: Delicious, affordable, prompt, professional. She created a 3 tier Yo Gabba Gabba cake for our daughter's 1st Birthday. She was on time and delivered the cake in flawless condition. People are STILL talking about that YGG cake. I don't even know where to start. I was looking for a very specific cake that apparently would take days to make and was "nearly impossible" because of the small details. I went to five other bakeries on Long Island before resorting to the city. I found Chic Sugars and called right after reading the wonderful reviews. I spoke with Erika and she was the SWEETEST! Although she had 9 other cake deliveries the weekend I needed my cake, she produced the cake I wanted in the picture but 100x better. The cake was everything I wanted and more.
