Solidly mediocre.
The three stars are because the service, while painfully slow, was incredibly friendly. The food wasn't very great. My starter was delicious - deep fried pasta parcels filled with pear and cheese (essentially pasta wontons). My main course arrived lacking one of the main ingredients, gorgonzola - the whole reason I'd settled on that choice. Additionally, there was a bone in one of my pieces of chicken. Not cool on either count.
As a standard Italian dessert option, I went for the tiramisu thinking it would probably be a solid choice. Nope. It was dry and barely tasted of coffee. The vast amounts of chocolate syrup were the only thing that made it at all ok. Probably the worst tiramisu I've ever had.
The restaurant is a big open room, and it was incredibly loud. A large table of 12-ish year old girls having a birthday party didn't help. It's a beautiful-looking restaurant, but it's hard to have a special time when you can barely hear the person next to you.
We were a party of 10 for my GMIL's 80th birthday and around the table people had a nice time. Some were more impressed than others. As I said earlier, the service was very friendly and smiley - if horrendously slow. That pleasant service, plus allowing my MIL to bring along a birthday cake, tip it from 2 stars to 3. But, given the choice, I'd not return to Chianti. read more
