    Linguini mare

Mia is molto buono ! We were lucky to get a table here with no reservation - it was quite full , which is what attracted us in the first place. They offered a fixed menu for the holiday season but they also had a regular menu when we asked. We had sea bass which was cooked in a delicious cherry tomato/garlic/white wine sauce - not too heavy as to overwhelm the delicate and tender fish. We also had risotto porcini. Very good and flavorful. Our friends had linguine mare which had a lot of seafood in it and the rigatoni. Everything was really good ! The ambience is warm and comfortable. The wait staff was perhaps a tad impatient and wanted us to order quickly. We ordered calamari to start , but they insisted the kitchen needed the entire order all at once. Although it felt hurried , the calamari still came out first and the meal was timed just fine. If you're in the mood for a change from Scottish fare , Mia is a great choice for some good Italian food and a nice night out.

I have been passing by this place a few times and I'm glad I decided to have a go and enter. The sign MIA is displayed clearly in front of the entrance with 2 massive windows flanking the sides. Inside it's lovely and warm. The interior looks very Italian. The stonewalls make the place look very rustical. On either side of the bar are tables and chairs. They also have a waiting area offering 2 cozy couches where you can relax after a busy day. The menu offers seabass, sirloin steak, fillee steak, pizzas and pastas, antipasti like parma ham and melon, bruschetto, salads and much more. I ordered a Pizza Diavola which costs £2 less when choosing a takeaway. I paid £6.50. Outrageous, considering that I'm getting a smaller sized pizza from Dominos up the road for £12 (oh yes I'm being ironic :-)) And you know what? The pizza was delicious, no cheese nor pepperoni spared. The staff seems very polite and helpful. The place is ideal for everybody, even for dates. Currently they offer groupon vouchers for a 3 course menu, incl coffee and wine. They also do Valentine Dinners for a special affordable price. GO GO and don't miss out!

Dalry Road is full to brimming with a range of restaurants and cafes, and Mia is a good addition to the mix. I had a very enjoyable meal here with friends and would be happy to return for another outing. I opted for the seafood pasta and when it landed on the table it was like half of the ocean had been put in front of me. Mussels, prawns, shrimp, clams and squid along with tomato sauce and spaghetti - yum! I was far too full to try anything else, but I fancy a return to try the desserts!

Lovely service, wonderful food. The pasta offerings are solid and filling - I had the spaghetti bolognese, which was fabulous, and paired well with a house red. My party happened to be seated close to the kitchen, and nearly every dish I saw leave looked delicious, so there are many dishes I would like to come back and try!

Busy Saturday night but our visit tonight could not have been better. The restaurant was rammed full but the wait staff were super friendly and attentive. We both ordered fish and my tuna in a caper and tomato sauce was pretty sublime. People often talk about food "melting in the mouth" and, food the first time, I can say this was just that. Mia's chef is a talented man! For pudding, I couldn't resist the tiramisu - it should be good being from an italian restaurant and it was. Not to coffee-ish and very creamy. Highly recommended all round and it deserves it's TripAdvisor top three placing. Mia is popular, though, so make sure you book early.

We went out for a lovely little Italian meal. The food tasted great and fresh. The menu had a great variety and the food was well presented. The staff were lovely and warm. The decor was simple and well suited to the budget and location. It didn't detract from the food. I had a glass if house wine and it was delightful. All in all, very affordable and I thought very good value for money. A great bite if in Edinburgh looking for some Italian.

The parma ham with mozzarella hit the spot for a light supper, and my friends enjoyed a pizza and a pasta dish - spaghetti carbonara.

Pomo Pizzeria is located in the Haymarket area of Edinburgh and was just a stones throw away from our hotel. We sat down and pretty much had the restaurant to ourselves! Their menu features pizza, pasta, a variety of share plates (appetizers) and more with a good amount of kid friendly options too. Posted on their wall, you'll also find their specials that include drinks and dessert. We went with a capricciosa pizza, risotto funghi misti, and penne arrabiata. For dessert, vanilla ice cream! Our food came out quickly and overall, pretty good. Flavors were a bit light and could've been seasoned more, but still good and didn't feel heavy on the stomach. What I really liked about the restaurant was the decor. It was totally my jam with a bit of the old world charm in the use of wood and their brick walls, mixed with modern fixtures and features. Definitely recommend this spot if you're in the neighborhood! Prices are fair and don't break the bank.

The decor inside is stunning, as well as the glowing tabletops. The service is wonderful thus far. Everything on the menu is fairly priced, considering the portion sizes are way above par. I did order a Tutti Frutti Mocktail, and it tastes freshly made and not frozen like so many places do. You can tell they want you to have a great experience. I went with the garlic and rosemary bread and I am surprised at how light it is, but the flavor definitely pops in your mouth. I've eaten half of it before the main course even arrived. I got the crab fettuccini. The service is extremely quick. My main course arrived within maybe 15 minutes of sitting down. Fresh grated Parmesan on top. The waitress recommended the risotto, and I can now see why. The pasta is the perfect temperature, coupled with the crab and Parmesan, it's the perfect blend to make your tastebuds dance. I can't stop licking my lips haha. So happy to say that I had room for dessert! The Sticky Toffee Pudding was recommended, and yet again, another perfect choice. Toffee was poured on top of the dessert, and it was hot, making the dish that much more enjoyable. Ok. I not only LOVE the food, but I finished all three dishes completely. They worked off each other very nicely and when I don't even have leftovers to take home, it is THAT good. Overall a joyful and delicious experience! If you ever take a trip or you are LOCAL to Scotland, definitely stop in here. The service is some of the best, if not the best, I've ever received at a restaurant, especially considering it's aesthetically upscale and the menu seems to be crafted with lots of thought and heart.

So I leave Melbourne. Fly away, halfway across the world, snug in my little village that is…read moreStockbridge. Then, Smith and Gertrude arrives. I've had my suspicions about the name for a while and tonight, my suspicions were confirmed- this idea was formulated in Melbourne, the bright light-bulb flashing into the owners mind whilst sipping a glass of wine on the iconic corner of Smith Street and Gertrude Streets in Melbourne. The hipster trend is spreading globally people! And you know what? I'm on board! The service, ambiance and style so reminds me of my hometown (whats that I feel...pride?) This might just become the place for meat, wine and cheese. For the past year Henri's of Stockbridge has been my go-to for my Sunday wine and charcuterie but Smith and Gertrude will closely rival this. So lets talk wine. The list is extensive and impressive. I'm actually not too much for Australian wine myself, but the list of Australian wines available almost made me want to yell out 'woo! represent!' but I didn't do that because I'm a grown up of course. I instead ordered a lovely Argentinian wine at the recommendation of our very helpful server which paired the meal nicely. Meats and cheese. Well. I feel like there could have been more on the board (or maybe have smaller boards so it looks fuller?) Nonetheless, whilst it looked simple to begin with, the mixed board was more than enough for two people, though I did add the gorgonzola cheese along with bread with oil with dukkah. All delicious but not foreign to me. The cheese is sourced locally and I buy it all weekly so I essentially paid to have it plated and to eat it somewhere with better lighting. If you don't know cheese, then you might enjoy the ever-changing cheeses to try until you find a favourite. Then you can go buy it in bulk from the local cheesemongers if you so wish. The interior is very trendy and Melbourne-like. The atmosphere, quality of food and service was nothing short of great. . If you're really just wanting the meat and cheese without the ooze of hipster-mess, I would suggest the buying the cheese and meats from local stockists. Thy also stock wines which I will certainly return to purchase. I give five stars as a fellow Melburnian seething with pride for this new local business. They've taken a simple concept and done it well, using local product and supporting other small businesses which I highly commend. Highly recommended for a place to just sit, eat, chill and plain enjoy, whether alone or with company. The only thing that was missing was the excellent barista-made coffee I have come to adore from Melbourne (read: its the minimum standard I expect.) Steampunk in a french press guys, really? I'll keep an eye out on this development and will probably move in when this changes.

Tucked in the space of the old cat cafe, I didn't even realize this place was there until Julie G suggested we meet there for a glass. If you had visited the cat cafe previously, this new venture has more or less gutted the place and it's unrecognizable. They've done a great job with the room, with lots of wood detailing, vintage inspired knick knacks and communal seating... it's basically a hipster coffee shop, but with wine. Eye roll all you want, that's a damn good combination of trendy. I only had two glasses on my first trip here, so I can't speak to the food or the flights, but the wine (though pricey... ack!) was interesting and the wine flights that went past us, with four little glasses and the option to pair with cheese almost had us falling off our seats to get a better look. Well worth heading back for more investigation. So far, I deem this place a cute little addition the the neighbourhood. Welcome Smith & Gertrude!
