3.5 stars The pasta is the star. Friendly prompt service in a small, casual dining area. The salumi plate was fine. My boys devoured most of the meat before I could taste any of it, but the salami and cheese pieces I tasted were delicately delicious. The olives were nice, but the toast pieces were a bit uninspiring. My rocket and Parmesan salad was delicious. The parm was pretty good quality, and the greens were fresh, tossed with a good balsamic. A very nice salad course. I ordered Spaghetti Vongole and it was spectacular. The pasta was a perfect al dente and the sauce had an incredible balance of sweet, tangy, & spicy flavors. The clams were petite with a mild flavor that paired well with the sauce. My only real complaint, and the reason I don't feel good about giving a 4 star review, was that my bowl had 4 clams that didn't open. That's a sign of bad clams (hey it happens). My feedback to the chef would be to inspect the clams before you serve them. I can forgive a single unopened clam, but 4 clams when the dish had maybe 16 to begin with? Just don't serve it, if you wouldn't eat it. They do have a children's menu with a few options. Kids loved their spaghetti and the calamari entrees. Wine list was modest but well curated. My wife thought the salmon was a bit over seasoned. Cooked perfectly, but just too salty. Otherwise, I highly recommend the pasta at this place. 3.5 stars read more

I Ordered a medium stake it was way to over cooked. there was literally no flavor, I don't recommend this restaurant. i tried sending back my stake but they were out of stake to re make it so they brought back my old one for me eat I did not eat it i highly recommend you don't go to this tasteless restaurant. read more

We followed our fellow "yelpers" to this restaurant. We ordered the meatballs and sauce and also bread for our starters. The meatballs were overcooked and dry. The bread was ok. My husband ordered the meat sauce and pasta and I ordered the Orecchiette with Italian sausage and Italian broccoli. Our main meals were great. We also ordered a bottle of Italian wine, the wine was decent. Service was great. read more

If I lived in Edinburgh, I'd be going to Piccolino every Sunday for dinner. It's a small and cozy spot with authentic Italian food. Our server was so enthusiastic and we fed off his energy. The pesto gnocchi was delightful as was the Italian beer they had on draft. We also felt the prices were very affordable! read more

Absolutely FANTASTIC and exceptionally busy Saturday night so there was a wait for food but the brilliant front of house team brought complimentary olives. The food..... OMFG... OUTSTANDING, we had the prawn starter and meatballs, beautiful Just when you think you hit the highlights the main courses of pasta with venison, pasta with sausage & pasta with prawns come along - phenomenal!! This is a great hidden gem and worthy of 5 stars plus, before you all get excited it is a small restaurant with very little space. While visiting my granddaughter who attends college in Scotland we were staying at a hotel in center city Edinburgh and decided to search for a restaurant near the hotel. Italian fare was suggested by one but being from the Pittsburgh area where we have tons of good Italian restaurants I said "no". But as we checked for something close the only thing that looked good was Piccolino. I'm so glad we chose Piccolino. All 3 of us ordered different pasta dishes and were thrilled with our selections. I honestly think mine was the best pasta dish I've ever had. The pasta noodles were cooked to perfection and the sauce was superb. The service was friendly and top notch as well. You can bet we will visit Piccolino the next time we visit my granddaughter again. read more

My wife and I have both travelled extensively and we both agree this is the best Italian we've ever had outside of Italy. She had the spaghetti with clam and I had the orecchiette with sausage and they were both stunningly flavorful and perfectly Al dente. The service was very friendly and prompt. We wanted to try some of the Italian food in Edinburgh and went to Piccolino. The manager was excellent in providing recommendations and we started with the caprese salad. Simple, but tasty with the basil pesto. We then got the seafood pasta and the Italian sausage and broccoli pasta. Great ingredients combined into very solid dishes. Just a handful of ingredients but balanced well. I ended the meal with the tiramisu, which was well executed as well. Overall good Italian food and worth a visit in Edinburgh if you want a change from the British food for a night. read more

Stopped for a quick lunch while exploring Edinburgh. Great food and excellent service.

Disappointing. Went there on a promotional night "organised" by the restaurant via Eventbrite only to be quite rudely confronted by the manager who complained that we should have made a reservation!!! He managed to 'squeeze us in' however as some kind of big favour impressing on my wife and I ( and overheard to other guests (not just us) by impressing on all of us what time he needed the table back. Clean and tidy enough ( a bit too 'bright' and the serv very rushed, got the impression they just wanted to get as many people through during the evening as possible - not very relaxed and over familiar and not very sincere. We live in Edinburgh and this 'attitude' I'm happy to report is definitely not typical of the great majority of the many excellent Italian restaurants to be found but I doubt very much if we will be going back. Someone (the owners??) needs (I would respectfully suggest) to have a quite word with the current management- they should remember and respect that the customer always comes first not profits and definitely not rudeness or insincerity. read more
