We have been traveling Ireland and Scotland for almost 2 weeks now. Divino Enoteca has won our hearts and tastebuds. My husband ordered the steak with mushrooms and potato and I indulged in the Pesto Gnocchi. Both were fantastic. We ordered a bottle of red Italian wine suggested by our amazing server, Troy. We ended our meal with dual espresso martinis and a tiramisu dessert. We left fully satisfied. Our service was outstanding. The ambiance was amazing. Fantastic place!! We sat in a lovely back room with heaters (we asked to have ours turned off; it was cozy without it). Our waiter was Christopher, who was charming and very attentive. We followed his recommendations from appetizer to dessert and had a tremendously delicious meal. We were a party of six and were seated quickly on a Saturday night without a reservation. Then we were seated and got the pleasure of having David as our main server. David was an amazingly knowledgeable South African that took his time to make perfect meal and wine selections. I cannot stop singing this restaurant's praises. My friends and I did not want to leave. We will come back to Scotland just to see them again. Davinci Enoteca in Edinburgh is an incredible experience. Under the bridge and worth finding, this is a meal to write home about. We started with baby octopus in an amazing sauce, then split the tagliatelle ragu and chicken braised in black tea, the flavors and aroma were spectacular. Then the jazz band came in and we were transported to a romantic post war Europe, I can't say enough how much we loved Davinci Enoteca. read more

Divino Enoteca is a beautiful wine bar and restaurant. As we were on our way elsewhere for dinner on Thursday 10th November 2016, we just popped in for a few drinks so didn't dine there. A beautiful, dark, relaxing, luxurious space with comfortable sofas, armchairs, floor to ceiling shelves of wine and table service. I had an exquisite glass of Malvasia Bianca and a Speyside Martini whilst my companions ordered some Wine Flights consisting each of 3 red and 3 white wines, an Espresso Martini and a glass of Prosecco. A couple of wines on the Flights were passed their best but staff changed these for us. A definite spot to have on your itinerary if in Edinburgh and I would love to return to try the food. read more

I arranged my works Christmas party here for 30 people. We had the full side section of the restaurant to ourselves which was great. Great looking place, full of character, low level lighting and velvet curtains make it sumptuous indeed. We had pre-ordered the meal so I had met with the chef and restaurant manager before the night to talk through all our requirements. I am super strict vegetarian and I found that none of the wines were suitable for a vegetarian, they did offer to specially buy some in but the price was over our budget so I ended up opting for gin and tonic or two instead. They also cooked me a special vegie lasagne without parmesan, which was great. The staff were very helpful indeed and with great food and service, our Christmas party was a success. Wine tasting , classy style! It's off Grassmarket and not so easy to find, if you don't have the address at hand. But as soon as you are ready to walk through the entrance and down the stairs, around the corner you can see a nice cozy bar, chairs and tables. Soft lightning makes the place ideal for romantic meals! The menu is extensive when it comes to choosing your favourite wine for the evening. Wow, Wow, Wow.....they even offer proper wine tasting pallets of 25ml and 50ml in elegant glasses for red and white wines from all over the world. The flight plan I chose was for £7.50 and the 5 samples tested where outstanding. Another option are 4 glasses of red wine of the premium range for which you pay £20. White wine variations are also available. The most expensive bottle of red wine I could find was £620, Good luck or nice lover :-) ! You have a choice to nipple on some tapas dishes before or after the wine tasting. Single wine glasses of various sizes are also available. We ordered carppacio (order the small portion, its cheaper), polenta and ham and chicken liver pate with artisan bread, which are £4 each. They also serve pasta and you get more choice upstairs in the restaurant. Go there and check it out. You won't be disappointed! read more

This time we had a meal at Divino Enoteca. In addition to my previous review I have to add that they did very well to accomodate five of us on a busy Saturday evening during the Edinburgh Fringe. They were very busy as we expected. But we were all made to feel right at home and at easy. We knew we had to vacate the table by 8pm, but we were not hurried. Wine bars are my spiritual home. I'm not sure why - I'm not even that good with telling my "pinot grigio" from my "pinot gris" ... or my "pinot nior" from my "pino nino nino" (10 points to anyone who gets that joke). Divino Enoteca is located in the part of Edinburgh I can't navigate - the old town, with the multi level streets and Google Maps unable to tell me how it all works. Thankfully I was soon inside and wrapped in the warm surroundings of Divino Enoteca with exposed brick walls, dark timber tables and a nice, glowing atmosphere. I was visiting as a gatecrasher of the CMYE Edinburgh Yelp event (thanks again for letting me come along!) and we sat at a large table. The legs of the table were bugging me all night and I couldn't rest my legs on the floor properly, but I think it was because I was in the bench seating. I had a look over the wine list, and I was totally lost - as I said above, I'm not good with wine varieties and they had a whole section of Italian varieties. I'm ashamed to say I didn't recognise any of them. I was tempted by the flights of wine (small glasses of 4-6 varieties) but as I was driving later on in the night, I went for a glass of rosé. I don't remember the details and can't see it on the website - but it was great and a reasonable price. Some Yelpers had food which looked really tasty. I thought the service at times was a little brisk, but the waiter seemed to lighten up as the night went on. I felt really comfortable here (apart from the legs part above) and would definitely return here for a quite, comfortable drink next time I'm in Edinburgh. read more

Overall, Divino is a first rate wine bar. It's an absolute gem - the wine flights are fun to try and reasonably priced for the opportunity to try a range of wines. The bar area is very stylish and well laid out with the huge wine dispenser on display in the centre. The staff didn't explain the wines but luckily there was a cute little card that they sat on with all the information you needed to pretend to know what you were doing! I don't think however that the food is quite up to the standard it should be. We did eat there about 4 months ago and were quite disappointed by the selection and quality. Last night I only had a couple of bar snacks and, while the food was nice it was missing that little bit to make it great, which really wouldn't be hard with a plate of bresaola and some mushroom pate! Some high quality nibbling platters would be great to have with the wines with lovely Italian antipasto, olives, calamari, sardines perhaps... yum! Don't get me wrong. I'll go back. I'll go back quite soon, but it will only be for lots of wine and a great night chatting in the bar. read more

I had sort of a moment at this place, but I'll get to that in a minute. We started off with one of the wine flights, which I loved. It's great that you can get the same number of glasses in different sizes. We went with the smallest so we could have a few sips each and decide what we want in a full glass. They were very well marked when they came to the table, so even someone who has mildly indulged can still easily tell one from the other. Delicious appetizers, small plates, and desserts came and went, and then I was very pleased to find (Cuban!) cigars on the dessert menu. I planned to take it home but on our way out, one of the waiters, insistently hospitable in that very Italian way, suggested we enjoy a smoke on the empty back patio. He turned on a heater and asked if I wanted anything else. I was in a persuadable mood, ordered an espresso, and when I tried to pay him, he just insisted I enjoy myself and find him on my way out. Then, sitting in the back patio under strung lights, with a full stomach and several glasses of red in my system, blowing smoke rings and sipping an espresso, I realized that I was about as happy as I get. Great lunch with friends in this very classy Italian. So much choice on the main menu, but we were all tempted by the lunch special menu. Antipasti was excellent. Beautiful meats and olives. The Italian sausages with fennel served with polenta were excellent too. I finished with the tiramisu, which was so good. I'm not usually a fan but this was superb. Creamy, not too sweet, chocolate too. Their wine selection is excellent I was only disappointed I couldn't try any as I was driving. Oh well, gives me an excuse to go back!! read more

This was the first time I had visited Divino. It's defo a pleasing place to be when you are escaping the winters' cold and dark nights. Divino is situated down the steps in the basement of a tenement building so as you can imagine history just seeps through these walls. The lighting really helps build an atmosphere too - don't worry it's not a scary one! Known for the vino, Divino offers an extensive menu of reds, whites, rosè, sparkles by region. Luckily we were on a Yelp Wine Club Event, so had our wine expert, Nikki choose the wine and and paired it with cold meat, cheeses and breads. It's quite amaing how much food can change a wine. Both wines were very nice. I love my reds in winter. The platter of meats and cheeses was exceptional. Just brought me back to times i spend with my hubbie and his family when we visit Italy. Tucked away under the George the IV bridge, Divino is a little welcoming Italian oasis in Edinburgh. At basement level, its all dark and atmospheric and lovely for drinks, nibbles or a full on romantic night. Not tried any bad wine here yet. Was here for Wine Club the other week and the wine we sampled (I ended up trying 3 in total) was all lovely. Just be sure you know what you are ordering as the wine will change depending on what food you are eating - in some cases quite dramatically. Divino is owned by the Vittoria group but is more high end. Tapas style plates, sharing plates or full plates are all available. I tried some antipasti with the yelper gang which was lovely and then I ended up ordering the selection of 5 cheeses with honey, pear and walnuts. The cheeses were lovely as was the honey. I gave away the accompanying crackers (not GF) but there should have been more pear beyond the two very thin slivers and more than 3 walnuts which I had to request. Other yelpers food looked lovely though and the desserts were wonderful - including a perfectly textured pannacotta bang goes the diet! I will come back for food and/or drinks. The menu is marked with GF and vegetarian options which is great to see and there are plenty of tempting choices too. Came her for lunch on Saturday and will definately be back. There were three of us and we started with the antipasti sharing plate. (while we were waiting for this, we were given a tasting plate of 24 month aged parmesan with balsamic creme) This sharing plate came with white pork mortadella, spicy salami, chicken terrine parfait, pecorino cheese, gorganzola, sourdough bread, pickled veg and San Danielle ham. All of these were totally outstanding and clearly the top of the range. Luckily, we took this for two people as there was so much of it! We followed this up with one of us having the meatballs in tomato sugo and the other two having the baked aubergine. Unfortunatley, we were all too stuffed to have dessert, but their coffee was outstanding. Bei and Nanini doesn't taste like that anywhere else in town! If you're the driver and are in here for the night, try the "red bitter". It's Campari without the alchol and makes a refreshing change for drinking coke all night. read more

Popped in here for impromptu Valentines drinks and expected the place to be heaving, but it was nice and quiet. I suppose not many people have discovered this hidden gem, or maybe it's because it was a Monday evening and most people went for dinner with their lovers over the weekend instead. The sharing platters of cheese and meat were lovely, the waiting staff were very friendly and helped me with my pronunciation of the wine names, and every glass of wine was delicious. I didn't really know how or what function the machines had, but I would love to find out! When we asked the waiter I don't think he understood what we meant but gave us such a thorough walkthrough of the wine list that we decided it would be a shame to tell him he'd picked us up wrong! Lovely place, maybe a bit on the pricey side but I don't think this is necessarily a negative; if you like the finer things in life then get yourself down here asap. read more

Excellent Italian restaurant in Edinburgh Old Town. You go down stairs for the restaurant and it has an wine cellar feel to it and certain rustic ambiance. Food was very good. We shared four different types of antipasti dishes. I had the Italian sausages for the main which were a tad bit salty. The while bean stew with pancetta was filling and delicious. Overall good comfort food. High score is for the wine list. Ordered s Pinot Nero (Pinot noir) from Chine which was very good for its price. read more

Love this place! They accommodated so many of my personal preferences without question and did so with a willing smile. Fun, great food and no pressure to order the more expensive wines on the list. Beautiful wee wine bar underneath George IV Bridge. Had I not been to another bar on the same street a couple of weeks ago I may have had trouble finding it. I went there last night for a pre-dinner drink and had an Aperol Spritz (a popular aperitivo drink in Italy at the moment). It cost £5 which I thought was quite fair as it has both liqueur and Prosecco in it and was made correctly, which does not happen in many bars in Edinburgh from my experience! We were also given a sharing plate with bread sticks, parmesan and olives at no extra cost which was a nice touch. I am definitely going to return sometime to sample some of their Italian wines and bar food. read more

DO NOT GO HERE! I went to Divino for my sisters Graduation and it was without doubt one of the worst meals I have ever had. Our starters took over two hours to arrive and when they did they were all sent back. I had ordered the mussels and instead of getting the breaded type mentioned on the menu I got cold bland mussels which had been cooked in just water and had no flavour whatsoever. Others ordered the soup which was cold. To make up for the fact we were starving at this stage we were given some starters from the upstairs restaurant which were quite tasty but took half an hour to arrive. They gave us as much pasta as possible and said you probably won't want your mains now!! We told them that as it was a very special occasion we would still like to eat if the quality could be improved. When the mains arrived they too were all sent back. I ordered the seared tuna which resembled tinned tune at one end due to overcooking and sushi at the other. The steak which others ordered was inedible and at best was stewing meat. As the mains were so terrible we told them we were not paying for the food. The waitress told us we would only have to pay for the starters and they would comp the mains! We refused to pay for any of their inedible junk. After much enquiring were finally told the kitchen was short but when we asked why we hadn't been informed earlier the waitress simply shrugged her shoulders. I cannot think of anything good to say about this restaurant. Thankfully there are many good chip shops nearby and the wine was quite good. If anyone from Divino would like to respond it was a booking of 10 on the 27th. read more

I arrived on a rainy night with some friends and the soft lighting, basement location made for quite the ambiance. We enjoyed a wine flight as explained to us patiently by our waiter, thereafter, we ordered the charcuterie and some sort of a prix fixe menu that made me feel classier than I am. In fact, the entire place made me feel classier than I am, but I suppose a good restaurant should offer that type of experience, something unique but attainable. We ordered some delicious appetizers (meat plate, buratta cheese, bruschetta) and then turned to entrees - everything was perfectly cooked and just the right portion. Whenever we are in Edinburgh we eat at Divino (says it all!) at least once with family and friends. The food is superb, the menu varied, with wine by the bottle -- many very reasonably priced -- or by the glass from cruvenet-style taps for a minimum 10£ voucher that can buy multiple glasses. Service and ambiance are top notch but seemingly effortless. It's not unpretentious but still extremely friendly. There are several restaurants in the building so make sure your at the bottom-most at 5 Merchant St., though entry is convenient from the sister restaurant, Vittoria, on George IV Bridge.
