My parents, boyfriend and I visited Stirling last weekend to visit the historical sites and, around lunchtime, we were peeping into every eating establishment left and right: a bland pub, a basic tourist restaurant, a closed restaurant, a coffee house. Nothing seemed quite right until we came to La Ciociara. It was brimming with people and, despite the full-on plugs for visiting Italy everywhere within site and my slight nervousness that it would be a fake Italian restaurant, we decided to try it and I was pleasantly surprised! Pizzas, pastas, and focaccia sandwiches for around £5 each were good deals, and there was also a pizza and pasta meal for two including wine for £11. It wouldn't break the bank, so that was good. When the food arrived, I was taken aback and humbled by my prejudgments: it was really delicious! The half dish of spaghetti carbonara was creamy and fantastic, with crispy bacon bits and without too much of an eggy taste. Now on to my half of the pizza. Wow! Delicious artichoke and Parma ham pizza that you don't find of this authentic Italian quality often in Scotland. Now on to a few tastes of my mother's motzeralla and ham focaccia sandwich. Yes! It tasted just like one I had in Rome last summer. I was really pleased with this place and it was a good find! I may even come back again from Edinburgh to try their buffet (Monday to Friday) to indulge my taste buds. The service could have been slightly more friendly and the ambiance slightly less tacky, but the food was great and a good find in Stirlng.

The pizza was superbly Italian tasting. The service was at least as outstanding as we were just looking to sit outside at their table and have a slice - so the lady at the reception offered to get a slice for us from her husbands chip shop next door !!! Along with a Peroni and life is grand

I have always known about this place but haven't been in years maybe because it's tucked away up the back of BOA and there are plenty of places in the village to choose from. It's definitely worth the drive up the hill the Resturant is bright and airy we were sat at the big window overlooking the garden. The garden is enclosed and has outdoor seating and a small play area for the children, ideal for during the summer! I ordered the chicken liver pate which was tasty and came with plenty of toasted breads and salad my husband ordered the soup of the day, tomato and cauliflower which he also enjoyed. For mains we had the spaghetti and a pizza which was all very tasty and clean plates were sent back to the kitchen! Coffee was lovely too and came with little Ameretto biscuits, yum! Staff were very pleasant and professional. Will definitely be back to try the dinner menu!

Where have you been hiding, Vecchia Blogona? Way up in Bridge of Allan, that's where! It may look…read morethat all that's to be found in Upper Bridge of Allan is ridiculously big houses but alas, Vecchia Bologna sits...at the top of a very big hill! We sat outside since the weather was nice and they even let us have the dog sit with us and enjoy it's water bowl! They do a great lunch deal of soup of the day (or garlic bread) plus a pizza or pasta dish with coffee for £8.95. I'd heard that the pizzas were quite something so I went for the salami choice! The soup was delicious and wholesome and the pizza was thin and perfectly crisp. The service was great and the lunch menu is really great value for money! I will venture back up the big hill! It's worth it for the pizza!

Good food but wait time impossibly long…read more Took well over an hour for entree to arrive, and when we finally said something to the manager, he was argumentative

Worst experience ever!!! I would give it a zero stars if it was an option. The server must've been…read morethe owners son bcuz only an entitled brat would treat customers the way he did. I asked for flatware and he refused to provide it until the main entree arrived. I said, "okay, I guess the 3 of us will just share the 1 butter knife at the table in the meantime..." and we laughed. He then aggressively got on our face and asked if there was a problem. My husband said to him, "you should really just bring us silverware so we don't have to share." And he yells NO WAY! I got up and said I've heard enough, we're just going to go and he yells loud enough to disrupt all other diners experience "THE DOOR IS RIGHT THERE, GET OUT, I DONT WANT YOU HERE!" We were already out the door and we could hear him... it was the oddest thing I've ever seen. The bread and butter were so tasteless, the Minestroni was tasteless and the wine was stale, tasted like old vinegar... if it was a preview of the food to come we are glad the server was psycho and refused us a fork and knife... I would love to know what was so offensive about asking for flatware so I could butter the pale tasteless bread he brought with 3 shavings or freezerburnt butter and not have to wait 20 mins for it after the entree landed (things move really slowly there...). He made me explain this to him at least 5x and would not let it go... I think he needs to be medicated for bi-polar disorder or he was just spoiled rotten by his parents. Who knows but I'm glad I didn't have to stock around to have a full on tasteless meal. Do yourself a favor and go anywhere but there unless you want to be served by a rude spoiled millennial who doesn't know proper table manners.
