I just gave birth in early October. Dr. Chiang performed an emergency C-section due to low amniotic fluid and high blood pressure. My family and I feel very grateful to have Dr. Chiang as my OB-GYN. When I was in the hospital, he came to check on me almost every day. He has a lot of experience, very strict but also very friendly, and if you follow his instructions carefully, you'll be fine. I also had a little trouble during my pregnancy and had to call his hotline at 5 a.m. Both times, the doctor answered quickly and gave advice right away. The staff are nice too. They do their jobs well and were very patient when working with our private health insurance. I am generally very shy and get nervous easily in many situations, but I had a great experience with the doctor and his staff. Being pregnant is not easy, but they made it better. Very bad experience with this doctor! Dr. Chiang is judgmental, rude and impatient. He doesn't listen at all and is very rude and judgmental. I don't think he cares about the feeling of the patients. I asked if I can have c section for some reason, he didn't look at my file and shouted in the office saying I am the one who can decide, not you! He didn't show out his rudeness until it is too late for us to change the doctor! Don't go to him, he is going to ruin your pregnancy and delivery. He was very emotional and can't control his own emotion at all. I am not sure if he had bad experience with some other patients before, but this could not be the reason for him to be rude! A colleague referred me to Dr. Chiang when I found out I was pregnant and I'm so thankful. I went to Dr. Chiang for both pregnancies and had great experiences each time, except for when he roasts me for gaining more than his recommended weight gain range (he's really strict on that). Instructions/advice/recommendations are all clear and straight forward. I really like having him as my dr and if I could see him for anything else, I totally would. Front desk/nurse staff are cool, too, and I really like chatting with Brenda. Just note your appointment date and time, be prepared to pay in cash or through Zelle, and that's it! This review should have been written way earlier except I didn't know if I had the adequate language to express how grateful I am to Dr. Chiang and his staff Ms. Elvira and Ms. Brenda! Thank you for taking so much care for me! From day one, Ms. Elvira heard my cry for help and helped me get approved to be a patient of Dr. Chiang when all other OB-GYNs on the tri-care network were rejecting me and no longer taking new patients. I was nearing 15 weeks of pregnancy and really concerned I wasn't going to find a doctor soon. Ms. Elvira heard my case and immediately went to work to make sure I got an answer same day and thank goodness it was an YES! On my first visit, Dr. Chiang and his staff were professional. They understood my husband was stationed overseas and provided the support I needed for a successful pregnancy. He was honest and expressed concerns of my weight, sugar intake, and overwell physical and mental health when appropriate. Ms. Elvira and Ms. Brenda always greeted me with warmth and peptalks to display support knowing I was doing my best for the health of my baby and myself. I love Dr. Chiang's blunt and no-nonsense care. Especially towards the end of my pregnancy, I ended up with preeclampsia and had to be admitted to the hospital. Needless to say, I never got to leave due to concerns and had to have an emergency c-section. Dr. Chiang was empathetic knowing my husband was not going to arrive in time for the birth of my baby. He also made a visit every day to ensure my post op care was managed properly. I love Dr. Chiang and his staff. I love his humor and sarcasm! If I am so lucky, I would do this process all over again with them. They are awesome at their jobs and I felt my health and the health of my baby was their main priority always. I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinions and pregnancy is an emotional journey; but I don't really understand the poor reviews for Dr. Chiang and his amazing staff. What I gather from the other reviews is they weren't expecting HONEST TRUTHFUL care with best practice suggestions, but a doctor and staff to just go along with their own personal preferences. Dr. Chiang delivered both of my babies ; my son in 2021 and my daughter 2 weeks ago. Both times I have had an amazing experience and I am so grateful for the care that Dr. Chiang provided me through pregnancy and delivery. He is compassionate, caring and funny, always made me so comfortable during appointments and throughout the whole delivery. I always felt I was in good hands and he always answered all of my concerns and reassured me everything was going to be okay. He is available 24/7 for any questions or concerns you may have. He gives you his card with number on it on your first day of appointment. He also visits you in your postpartum room after deliveries, he visited my room every morning until the day I got discharged to make sure baby and I were doing okay. I am writing this review to share my experience with Dr. Chiang and his office staff. If this helps even one woman with getting better care elsewhere for her and her baby, I will have considered my job done. If you have an uncomplicated pregnancy and are ok with Dr. Chiang calling all of the shots, then you should have no problem with him as your doctor. On the other hand, if you have preferences/requests for your birth and want your doctor to work with you as much as is safe and possible, then you absolutely need to look for another doctor! When I expressed to Dr. Chiang that I had a birth plan, he was not receptive and always geared towards saying no and scoffing at my requests. If your patient's preferences are not achievable, then as a doctor, you can educate your patients in a respectful way rather than take such a paternalistic approach. At Dr. Chiang's office, I was so often put in a position of feeling uncomfortable and disrespected, like I was an inconvenience and someone undeserving of good care from her doctor. Elvira is Dr. Chiang's miserable troll of an office assistant who will put you on her s*** list if you ask "too much" of her (i.e. if you ask her to do her job). I always felt like I had to walk on eggshells with her, and that every request annoyed her. During my pregnancy, this affected my comfort level with the office and my ability to ask for and access good care without fear of anger and reluctance from the staff. No pregnant woman should have to feel like she is a nuisance when receiving medical care for herself and her baby. Elvira was never timely with submitting necessary paperwork and was a poor and ineffective communicator. If you followed up, she would either not respond or tell you not to follow up unless you wanted to place yourself at the back of the line again. Well then, maybe answer patients rather than ignoring them? One time, she even went so far as to say I was committing fraud for requesting a letter for work accommodations after experiencing new pregnancy symptoms. Being in the healthcare profession myself, I was appalled to hear her say this to a patient in their care! The letter I requested ended up needing several corrections because she could not string basic sentences together. On a few occasions, I overheard her giving medical advice to other patients that she is not qualified whatsoever to give. When I gave feedback to Dr. Chiang about Elvira's behavior, he just said it was hard to find help and that she has so much on her plate. Be under no illusion that he'll correct her unprofessional conduct. He condones this attitude and could not care less. If you feel she is out of line, you can always submit a complaint to the state medical board that oversees medical assistants (that is, if she is even a medical assistant). During my delivery, many complications arose that could have been avoided if Dr. Chiang had communicated better. When I was fully dilated and ready to push, he told the nurses over the phone not to have me push and to wait for him while he was at another hospital. He wouldn't give an ETA. My epidural wore off twice as a result of the wait, and I had to get extra dosing from the anesthesiologist. After we gave the final epidural time to kick in, Dr. Chiang woke me up and said he had been very patient up to that point (really now?...YOU were patient?!), and that we needed to get this baby out. We ended up needing to do interventions I did not want, but as he convinced me it was medically necessary, I reluctantly agreed. I strongly believe that my prolonged labor--with the need for extra doses of the epidural and unwanted interventions--all could've been avoided if I was not asked to wait when I was fully dilated and ready to push! The alternative would have been to let the hospitalist on staff deliver the baby. In my case, Dr. Chiang had already given the hospitalist instructions in case he didn't make it. My case is definitely not an isolated incident. Another woman I know who was in Dr. Chiang's care was also told to wait when she was ready to push. My biggest regret was waiting for Dr. Chiang to deliver my baby. My other regret was not finding another OBGYN at the first sign of trouble with Dr. Chiang and his office staff. read more

Recently, I am not quite understanding which birth control that I wanted and trying to get a better understanding. When I call few times trying to get help. Now this review comes after we have finished our 4 week post birth check up for our boy. We have absolutely no regrets on choosing Dr. Chiang. My wife and I were a little worried since Dr. Chiang was actually the only male OBGYN on the list. However the clerk for our GP actually said he was quite popular? Anyways gender roles aside, we just wanted to choose someone who had a good reputation. Luckily, Dr. Chiang was the right choice for us! After meeting him for the 1st time, it turns out he actually was my sisters OBGYN twice(yay?). Good impression if he was chosen again! I've already forgotten at this point he was the only male OBGYN until now. Throughout the entire process of appointments and checkups he has been patient with us the entire time. Never felt rushed to finish the appointment and move on and gave us all the time we needed to answer any and all questions we had. He also offered tips and suggestions through each appointments. What we could be expecting, should be expecting, and what kind of test are coming up. There were no weird surprises in each visit as he is informative on each visit as well as upcoming visits. His staff was also very patient, polite and helpful through every appointment! They pick up all calls to the office and it was easy to reschedule for the few times I could not make my original appointment. Oh, another thing to note was everyone, including Dr. Chiang, had a mask on for my visits. To be clear, It's not Brenda (The senior of the two colleagues) who is unprofessional, it's the other women. Now that my son turned 10 months, I can finally have time to write this review. Dr. John Chiang was and is amazing at what he does! I was so anxious and nervous during my first pregnancy because of all the unknowns plus the pandemic. My husband and I fully trusted Dr. John Chiang and he was very strict with my diet which I do appreciate (my appetite increased tenfold during pregnancy). He was very easy going the whole time. Then came the labor... We live nearly 40 minutes away from the hospital so I was worried they would turn me away with tremendous pain.. It is TMI, but i was only 1cm when I got to the hospital and couldn't believe it was hurting that badly. I couldn't imagine going back home another 40 minutes in a car ride and come back later. I saw Dr. Chiang during my first pregnancy and chose him again for my second. His staff (Elvira and Brenda) are always very friendly and caring, whether it's in person or over the phone. The office and rooms are always very neat and clean. You can tell that they put a lot of love and care into their business. Dr. Chiang is the absolute best. Even though he works long hours and sometimes graveyard shifts, he always puts on a smile and cracks lame-dad jokes LOL. He truly cares for his patients and takes time to address all my concerns. He's always honest with me, and I appreciate that. He's pretty strict with me about what I eat during my pregnancy, but I know it's for my benefit, since I love sweets. Honestly 5/5 stars isn't even enough for him and his staff members. During the pandemic, the hours have been reduced, so be sure to check their new hours. They do visits by appointments only, so call for your first visit. Right now, they don't allow kids in the rooms, probably to keep staff, other pregnant ladies, and the kids themselves safe during these times. There is no food or drinks allowed, especially since the odors can bother a lot of other ladies, who may already feel queasy. The waiting room isn't as packed during the pandemic, and we are usually able to space out more and sit 6 feet from anyone else waiting. I usually book my appointments for 11am on a weekday, but the parking lot is often almost completely full. They have a few spots on the ground level, a couple spots in their downstairs parking, and a few more spots above, if you keep driving straight in their lot and up the ramp. If you can't find any spots, you can always street park in the neighborhoods nearby, but be mindful of the street-sweep hours on Monday (there's signs to tell you the times). read more

The best gynecologist I've ever had. I found him through Yelp when I found out I was pregnant with my first born and he was awesome. He's very strict on weight gain but it was good because he wanted to make sure my baby and I were safe. He delivered my second baby and my niece and nephew. I paid for additional PPO through my work since I already HMO through my husbands' (Dr Chiang only takes HMO with Allied Pacific) because I truly believe in Dr. Chiang and his competency/abilities. Both of my live, natural births have been complicated ones which in the hands of an inexperienced or incompetent doctor would've probably warranted C sections. Both my babies were over 9lbs and the last one came out Sunny side up. Dr. Chiang delivered both naturally. Yes, his Ultrasound machine seems a bit more loved but you don't need any fancy machines to be a good/knowledgeable doctor. you just need one to get the job done. Terrible billing practices! My wife stopped seeing Dr Chiang before week 10 of her pregnancy. But he continue to bill us for a lab test that is supposed to be done in week 16. It is impossible for Dr Chiang to draw the blood from my wife since she is out of the country already in week 16. Tried to resolve the issue with his office. But his office has been rude and unhelpful. Their nurse either hang up on me or direct me to call someone else. To make matter worst, when I requested for a copy of her test results, they have not been able to provide them. I.e. he billed us for a non-existence test that is suppose to be done way later in the pregnancy. read more

A couple of days ago I came to see Dr.Chiang for the very first time. Had an appointment at 3:10pm. Arrived around 3pm. I think my name got call around 3:40pm. Seem to be typical waiting time. Didn't seem that long, maybe perphap I was busy filling out forms. We'll see on the next visits. Dr.Chiang was very informative. Also, took the time to ask about my medical history. That show he care and want to get to know his patient. First impression was great. As for the payments, I find it strange. This office accept CASH ONLY. I got charge $60 for initial visit. I don't recall being charge copayment on my first pregnancy and it was under the same insurance, but differ OB/GYN. I thought Prenatal Care were 100% covers? The staff inform me that I have a deductible plus a 20% charge for delivery. It will be split into 15 visits($240/visit). This is really weird. Normally when I visit a doctor, even with another OB/GYN they will send a bill to my insurance. Whatever the insurance doesn't cover, I will pay. The amount I pay will apply toward my deductible. Will need to confirm with my insurance if this is normal for a doctor office upfront assume all my deductible will go toward them. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Chiang since 2010 and have referred numerous of my friends and family members to him throughout the years. Dr. Chiang is always extremely professional yet personable. He spends his time listening to my concerns and ensures that I fully understand my medical conditions. I never feel like he's rushing me out of his office and that I'm just another number he's trying to push out. My prior OB/GYN was a female so I was hesitant at first thinking it would be uncomfortable with a male Dr., but Dr. Chiang completely changed my mind. I am actually more comfortable with him than I've ever been with any of my other doctors. His office's staff Elvira and Brenda is always welcoming and helpful. Whenever I have any questions they take their time to hear me out and go above and beyond to help me. I will continue to recommend my friends and family to Dr. John Chiang. ....forgot to mention that Dr. John Chiang delivered 4 out of my 5 kids (2 natural and 2 c-sections), they were all healthy and delivery went smoothly and efficiently. Their phone service is a joke. The first time I called, I got a machine that told me to call back during office hours from 9-5. Then I called back today at 3:30, and I got placed on hold 3 times. When I finally got placed off hold, the man on the phone told me they were closed early because of the rain, no one was there, and they were unable to take appointments. My husband and I first met Dr. Chiang in 2017 and that was for our first baby. He is very nice the entire time and the first appointment is always at his office. Dr. Chiang would answer all your questions ranging from your gestational age to the dos and don'ts. I was diagnosed with a potential complication during my third pregnancy last year (yes, during the pandemic), placental hemangioma, and Dr. Chiang checked on my status regularly and took all the precautions. All I can say is that I am thankful to have Dr. Chiang taking care of my pregnancies. Last, now hospitals have different policies for visitors, because of COVID . He answered all my questions and his number is there to call 24/7. He's very much respected by his staff and the nurses at the hospital tell me he's a hard worker. Ultrasound machine is old and it doesn't even show clear or let u hear baby's heartbeat. Honestly there is no Physical exam done or any labs which supposed to be done every visit. I doubt that staff that assist to dr has any medical degree or knowledge . All that office the only thing they know is how to collect your money, they wont accept cards, only cash and right at the spot, u cant pay later at ur next appointment , cant get billed and pay then , just give them cash and no proper receipts. Will be given to you They will charge u for something u were not supposed to be charged, they tried to charge me for ultrasound that I declined to do because it was not worth it, I did not want expose my child to that old machine. When I tried to leave and see another dr they told me i owe them $**** money . R u kidding me ? How is that possible if insurance sends me claims after each visit per those i dont owe a penny , all copayment paid at the spot by cash per that office worker request. And they are claiming that in order to get my Medical records i have to pay that amount, which is 3 times more than $100 They were trying to collect money that were not supposed to be collected at those visits. Which I clarified with my insurance. Which is illegal I can write lot more just have no time and space I guess to fit all negative sides of that office. Dr. John is the best. Although he is super busy all the time, he still answers all my questions and being friendly. I would highly recommend him. All my doctor friends' wives are recommend him too. Wish he won't be too busy if I want to see him for my next baby. My husband are fully love this office too. Staff are very kind and helpful! Very great experience with this team. Dr. Chiang and his staffs are so loving and caring. Being that i was a high risk patient he still took me in under his care and he always made me feel at ease about my pregnancy. He gets fairly busy but always have time for his patient and i never feel rushed. My delivery was quick and easy. Also, after having my baby he checked in on me a couple times before discharging me and i was so appreciative for that. I never had an OB that checks on you beside when they are about to just discharge you. He popped in whenever he is at the hospital just to make sure i was doing okay and that shows how caring of a doctor he is. I would highly recommend Dr. Chiang to my friends and family. read more
