Food was good and up to my liking. Flavors were there and the texture was also spot on. There were some things I would change about the food, but I won't knock too much for that. What happens when you go try a joint out because of a friend's recommendation, but end up at the wrong joint (literally go to a Thai place instead of a Vietnamese place). Hey, best mistake I've ever made. Not usually a Thai food person, so don't really have much of a gauge, I usually get Pad Thai and got it again as to use as a baseline. This Pad Thai was (compared to the ones I've had in the past at other Thai restaurants) pretty good. It had more flavor and felt more well-balanced. They also did not skimp on the crushed peanut topping. We decided to try something new this time and we looked up the Panang curry on the internet. It was described as a red curry "thick, salty and sweet, with a nutty peanut flavor" according to Wikipedia (by no means the expert). It came out like a thick broth consistency and had a definitive kick. If you're looking for a bit of spice, this was a pretty good curry. I did not detect the wiki promised peanut flavor, but that was not what the restaurant promised, but the internet promised. The restaurant promised delicious curry with a kick and it delivered. We were just curious as to what we were getting ourselves into before we jumped head first. Portion sizes were fairly sizable so we were glad that we ate first before deciding on apps, but I'm sure we will go back to try apps. The appetizers looked interesting. They had takes on fan favorites like crab rangoons, but their take on it. They added things like water chestnuts. We'll see in the future I guess. One thing I do have to say. The staff is very nice, but they are hard pressed to make recommendations. I think they fear steering you in the wrong direction and being blamed. Understandable, but sometimes I like being surprised by someone native to that cuisine. So come prepared with a somewhat knowledge of Thai food before perusing the menu. I have been driving by this place for over 25 years, in some way shape or fashion. NEVER been in, but had kept telling myself that I WOULD! Headed over to Thairiffic and it was CLOSED at 2 pm on a Sunday. Seriously. I was in DIRE NEED of Thai fried rice and/or Pad Thai. With a ravenous hunger, I drove from downtown to out town, pulled up and immediately was transported to the 80's, Florida style. Yep, the 80's are calling and they want their carpet and flamingo pink colors back. If the super dated and tiredness of the restaurant don't put you off - stick with it Pepe the Prawn, because the heaping plate of seafood fried rice and the house pad thai will kick your craving to the curb... So much that I have ordered for hungry crowds and delightfully taken out. AND THAT PEANUT DRESSING ON SALAD? KILLER! Friendly, delicious, dated and divine in a pinch. Affordable too. I went here yesterday for lunch with a friend. You get complimentary soup with any lunch order. We both thought the soup was okay. Nothing overly special. I got Pad Thai. It came with both chicken and shrimp...which is great because most places only let you pick one protein. I'm used to Pad Thai being slightly spicy, which is what I like..this version was sweet..not overly sweet, but not spicy. It was still tasty. My friend got chicken with mushrooms and ginger. Looked on Yelp to find a place midway between my town and my friend's. I saw Chez Siam listed and read the reviews. I drove farther than my friend had to, but I am glad I did. It is very unassuming from the exterior and next to a laundromat, so I was a bit skeptical going in. The food was delicious! We shared spring rolls, pad Thai, and a spicy chicken with green beans. Everything came out hot and quickly. The only disappointment was that they were out of their homemade coconut ice cream. Hmm, coworker talked it up so I followed his suggestion. We came on a Monday evening and we were literally the only people in the place. Well, technically there were two women leaving whenever we arrived. We had the entire place to ourselves. Yes! We should get all the attention. This was not the case. We did get decent service at the beginning, a woman with rough English asked for our drinks and gave us menus. We got Thai ice tea, which was my first time trying it. It was pretty funky looking, although i really enjoyed it. When it came it appeared as a Black and Tan. I stirred it up and then it turned a muddy color. The color isn't appetizing, but it was sweet and seemed creamy. We ordered two appetizers: Chez Siam Rolls with sweet and sour. There were four rolls total and a dish of sauce, tasty rolls. The second (name escapes me) consisted of a avocado, tomato, red pepper, green pepper, and tomato. When it came I was surprised to see it had cucumbers inside the mixture. I made careful to ensure the menu item didn't say cucumber, it didn't but the dish did. I was kinda upset. I tried the dish and couldn't taste too much cucumber so I had one crispy pastry bite. My second bite was interrupted by my coworker. He told me I might not want that bite. I looked to see a sticker still on the tomato, hinting that they might not wash them, disappointing. I showed the waitress and she didn't seem too concerned, also disappointing. We weren't ready to order and asked for a minute, we got about 20 (a guess) instead. Whenever she finally came out we flagged her down. My mate apologized and said last time he had better service. Mate ordered a soup and some dish I didn't care to hear him order, so I apologize if your still curious. I ordered the asparagus royal. It was a chicken dish with baby corn, asparagus tips, carrot slices, and mushrooms all with brown sauce. I didn't get any questions for spice level. I usually get asked when I a Thai restaurant. Oh and I added rice. When my dish arrived it was in a metal fish dish, over candles for heating. It was accompanied by my white steamed rice covered by a ceramic dish. The rice was awesomely sticking and I wished for chop sticks immediately. I made a bed of rice and put some asparagus royal on top. The mix was decent and I enjoyed the food. I could've used a bit of heat but oh well. If I was to return, I would never go on a Monday night, maybe a night with other guests. read more

This place is really close to my house. So I tried to like it. I Really tried. But I don't like it. Their hours listed are firm. If it says they close for lunch at 230, they don't seat at 220... at 230 they stop working. Same for dinner. I have tried to come here on both occasions before closing and have been told to go elsewhere. Even for takeout! But I did dine in, despite that, last week. Everything was bland. How can Thai Food be bland? This was. We had beef satay, which was just okay, and some chicken and veggies in a brown sauce that was similar to American brown gravy. I've tried pad Thai and tom yum on a prior take occasion and neither of those struck me. I am not trying this place again, despite how close it is. It is just not good. The ONLY reason I'm giving it two stars instead of one is because our server was friendly last week and the food came out quickly. No, scratch that, I've shown up a couple of times BEFORE the posted closing hours (once for lunch, one for dinner) and they wouldn't seat me because they were closing soon (once was in 20 minutes and the other time was closer to 10 or 15). I'm sorry, but your posted closing time should be the time of your last seating, not when you throw everybody out. One star. read more

I had $16 and change left on a Christmas gift certificate so my wife and I decided to go for lunch this afternoon (a Saturday). Their prices are a bit above average so we thought we take advantage of lunch prices. It turns out they don't offer a lunch menu on weekends, even though they are open specifically from noon - 2:30 for lunch, before closing and then reopening later for dinner. I love spicy food. I asked if they had a Spicy Basic Fried Rice dish. They don't, but the waitress offered me the vegetable fried rice cooked spicy. She asked "How spicy?" I said "medium." My wife ordered your run of the mill basic pad thai with chicken & shrimp. My spicy vegetable fried rice came out burning hot, quite a bit more spicy than a hot basil fried rice would be (usually one of the spiciest items on a Thai menu). I asked for a lime to cool it down but got kind of a blank response. So I asked for sweet & sour sauce. The waitress agreed but asked me if I'd like the dish to be recooked for me. I should have taken her up on it. I ended up eating less than half the dish and not taking it home. My wife's pad thai was just fine and I shared that with her. The meal came out to $20 and change, and the waitress informed me that after the gift certificate, I would owe less than the $10 minimum for credit card orders. I didn't have enough cash on me to leave a reasonable tip, so I said, "That's ok. I'll use the gift certificate another time." I'll use the certificate at some point, but since I am *always* pleased with Mueng Thai on Main Street, I'll go there exclusively when I want Thai food in Marlborough. read more

We liked the Pad Thai, it was mildly sweet and had a wonderful flavor. Now when I have Pad Thai at other restaurants it's not as good. It reminds me of the Pad Thai I had in Bangkok a few years ago. Others have mentioned to decor, hey... This is Marlborough, what exactly where you expecting? The food is good, the service was quick and the meals were fairly priced. I just thought I would try to balance the few bad reviews here with my own positive experiences. Update: Since this last review, we've gone back several times. It's the only Thai restaurant open for lunch on Sundays in the area. We've tried several dishes since the Pad Thai. If you like tangy, salty and aromatic, try the Gra Prao with what ever protein you like. One of the nice things about Chez Siam is they will modify any dish to your liking. We order it so the broccoli are less crunchy. Another awesome dish is the Chez Siam Fried Rice. Beats my favorite chinese restaurant in flavor and variety. Finally, if you would like a mid day kick, try the Thai Iced Tea. A lot of caffeine, sweet and yummy. Today, I am going to try a new dish since I always order the same thing. :-) read more

I've been here at least 5 times. Is it the best Thai restaurant? No. Does it get the job done? Yes. I like to get the Pad See Eaw/Yew with chicken. It's not on the lunch menu, but if you ask they will make it for you. It has thick rice noodles with chicken, egg, Chinese broccoli, and a sweet sauce. The portion size was enough to fill me up. Everything was cooked nicely EXCEPT the Chinese broccoli. It was barely cooked. Not raw, but still crunchy/hard. It could use a couple more minutes of cooking. A small chicken vermicelli noodle soup is served before the meal. They don't have a veggie option, so vegetarians don't get anything. It's a nice touch, but I can do without it. Their placements look very unsanitary and old. I'm not sure if they clean them after each use and the utensils are just sitting there. As a germophobe, it really bothered me. It's a good place to please meat eaters and vegetarians. Food is good, but not amazing. Service can be slow, especially with big groups. read more

I love Thai food and they have decent lunch prices. However, the food was not good. This was my first time ordering from them. I ordered Pad Thai - it had too much vinegar. It would have been perfect otherwise. The Prik King did not taste of ginger or curry. It has a strong peanut flavor and was too spicy. The white rice was not good either. My co worker ordered house fried rice and he said it had tons of oil. He is not a picky eater. The other person had Coconut Soup and he said it had too much lime. I only order three things from Chez Siam - curry, rice, and Coca-Cola. This combination is absolutely heavenly, but pricey at around $15 when all is said and done. The decor needs some updating as the room is mauve reminding me of an office from the eighties. You may notice that not many people eat here - and I think this is the culprit. Chez Siam is a Thai restaurant and a very good one in Marlborough, MA. I think they serve really good pad thai (I've tried them all). They have pretty tasty curries and the service is pretty good. Lunch time is usually packed with people who are on lunch breaks from work. It is not too pricy. Currently, most lunch meals cost about 10 or 11 dollars, which includes the tip. Dinner can get pricy though. I usually just go for lunch. read more

This place has really good cucumber sauce, peanut sauce, and that other orange dipping sauce I don't know the name. Well... my wife and I got take out from here... so our review isn't based on the restaurant experience... I ordered the Fisherman's Pad Thai... the description says that it comes with Scallops, Shrimp, and Squid... it only had scallops. It was very bland... had little to no sauce, and pretty much every Pad Thai I've ever eaten has had a spicy element to it... not this one. Boring... and made improperly. My wife ordered the Seafood Pad Thai with Squid... it had Scallops and Squid and 1 Shrimp... yes, just 1. Again... it was boring, bland, and made improperly... I truly think this place is one of the better places around. There isnt too many other Thai places around and the ones that are, to me seem fake or Chinese. I love there pad thai and other noodle dishes. The service is fast, friendly and is always hott when I get it. I have had the take out and ate in, and it was great every time. For the opposing side, I think they are a bit pricey. Not by a huge amount like if you went into Boston, but enough. For the pad thai its about $10, which isn't too bad unless you compare it to another place I know of where its $8. Huge restaurant, with no one inside. Felt desolate. It was a cold night (even in May weather), and it was freezing! I felt like I had to keep my coat on the entire time. They should downsize the restaurant and renovate it. Hideously tacky decorations- walls were covered with fake dangly flowers. The Pad See Ew dish did not impress me. The noodles were too starchy and overcooked- they were falling apart. It also lacked flavor, and the beef tasted too chewy. Mango sticky rice was the best I've ever had though... Solid offering for the area. Food is of good quality, restaurant is very clean, and the help is extremely kind. We went on a Saturday afternoon and ordered the Pad Thai and a Beef Curry. Both were very good with no complaints. Much better than the area Thai restaurants. There was only 1 server there at the time, but she was very nice, and was working extremely hard to keep all the tables content. It is mostly a no frills place, but I would certainly recommend going. Have had a few ok dishes from here, but after tonight, I'm never going back. First of all, they screwed up my order, again. This is the third time. This time, instead of chicken curry (for my husband) and vegetable spring rolls (for me), they gave us veg curry and chicken spring rolls. This was not immediately obvious. I haven't had meat in years, and the chicken they put in those rolls is so processed that it's almost unrecognizable. But I kept saying "do these have chicken? They taste different." I broke open a few to try to find out, and eventually I found what seemed like a clearly identifiable piece of chicken. I called them and asked them to fix it, and her first question was "did you eat them?" I said we had each started to eat one before we figured out they were chicken. Then on the phone it came out that she had given us veg curry instead of chicken curry. Now, she had a very heavy accent and was hard to understand. So when I placed the order, I kept repeating it slowly and clearly: "SHRIMP PAD THAI, CHICKEN RED CURRY, VEGETABLE FRIED SPRING ROLLS, STEAMED WHITE RICE." I repeated it four or five times because her accent was so thick. Anyway, when we came back for them to fix the order (which was damned inconvenient since we were on our way home from the airport and the kids were starving and exhausted, so adding fifteen minutes really was hard on us all!) they didn't give us a full amount of spring rolls! Instead of four, they gave us three! Probably because some of the chicken ones had been bitten! But it was THEIR MISTAKE! Also, I ordered shrimp pad Thai, and it had only three shrimp in the entire dish! For my husband's chicken red curry, they had added a bunch of tofu-- which he can't eat because he has a soy intolerance! Clearly they just stuck some chicken into the veggie curry they had mistakenly given us! So he had to go through and pick out all the tofu, hoping he wouldn't miss little crumbles of it and be sick! Speaking of sick, I haven't had chicken in so long that the couple of bites of chicken spring roll I ate by accident made me very sick to my stomach! I'm disgusted. This place is run by cheap-skates and the food is mediocre. Not going back, and recommending to my friends not to go there! read more

We first had Chez Siam a few weeks ago and again today. I didn't write a review the first time because I wasn't able to get around to it. The first time we had the pineapple fried rice, the ginger chicken and the Chez Siam rolls. The rice was perfectly cooked, the pineapple and shrimp complimented the dish with such a sweetness. The ginger chicken was so fragrant and succulent. It paired well with the jasmine rice. The chez saim rolls are basically spring rolls made with a pork and vegetable mixture , cooked to a perfect crisp. The dipping sauce which was a sweet sauce, with spicy undertones and an umami effect. Today I got the chez Siam rolls as well because they were so amazing last time and they didn't disappoint. I also got what's called plajien, which is a fried fish filet with houses special sauce. The fish also had ginger, peppers, onions, straw mushrooms, and jasmine rice. The fish was lightly fried and the sauce was extremely delicious, sweet yet savory and fragrant. I definitely recommend ordering food from this establishment! read more

Thursday, 4/14, brought one of my best friends here for dinner in honor of his birthday. He chose the place because it is close to where I live now. WOW! I will soooooo be going back! I had the Red Curry with chicken. I chose this because I was not in the mood for Pad Thai and I didn't see basil chicken on the menu but saw basil as an ingredient in this dish. My friend chose Green Curry with vegetables. We both ordered brown rice which is always tricky. Whenever I order brown rice in a restaurant it is either passable or tastes like kitty litter. Both our dishes came out in these pottery bowls atop of a pottery candle holder that kept the food warm. Ingenious! The portions were very generous --although neither of us had any leftovers because we were hungry and the food was top knotch. I could totally taste every fresh basil leaf and the coconut milk used in the sauce. YUM! The brown rice? The best! I have not had any better brown rice anywhere except from Trader Joe's (that's a great compliment). You must try this wonderful Thai restaraunt and ignore any negative reviews. Judge for yourself.
