I absolutely love this place! It's casual but nice, great for lunch or a chill date night. Service is attentive and helpful. Food is delicious. My wife and I split the onion soup (one of the best I've had anywhere), beef filet, and catch of the day for dinner -- all were great. But perhaps the best part of this restaurant is the amazing wine list. Super thoughtful selections (primarily from Burgundy but with a few gems from other regions) and very reasonably priced for on-site consumption. Came into Chez Monsieur on a Saturday night. Now we didn't make a reservation because there was a large fee. You would have to pay if you didn't show. But since we did arrive at exact opening, we were able to get a table so if you know you're gonna make it there, I would make the reservation because they got packed very fast. Our waiter was extremely helpful and went over the menu with us as well as the specials they had and even brought us a complementary appetizer . We of course had to get some more appetizers. we went with the Escargot because when in France as well as their Deviled Eggs, which I didn't know was such a big thing in France either. The Escargot was the best I've ever had by far and the deviled eggs were really good as well also top-tier. For my entrée, I had to get their Traditional Veal Stew, which is one of their specialties. The stew comes with obviously veal, as well as carrots, pearl onions, mushrooms, potatoes, bacon, in a creamy sauce. This stew was great most of the veal was melt in your mouth, though some pieces were a little tough. The veggies and bacon were also great and that cream sauce/broth whatever you want to call it is to die for. You have to make sure to keep some of their bread they give you if you're getting the stew so you can dip it in the sauce. Also, this is one of the largest dishes I've ever had for sure could serve two people and that's coming from American standards. For dessert, we had the Vanilla Crème Brûlée and the Crêpes. The Crème Brûlée was amazing and a must. A French staple for sure. I was a huge fan of the Crêpes but I have never been a fan of sweet Crêpes. They also gave us complementary French Madeleines as if we were not full enough. Chez Monsieur is for sure a great place to go for a fancy dinner in Paris. Chez Monsieur was such a great meal and one of our last in Paris. Sole Meunière was on our must have list and Chez Monsieur not only specializes in it but was only a 15-minute walk from our hotel. The service you receive is top notch from the moment you step inside until you exit. They greet you, take your coat, seat you, and make you feel like only you matter. We ordered the deviled eggs which was one of the best bites during our trip. They were perfectly seasoned, creamy, tangy, and salty. They were topped with crispy bits of fried bacon and shallots. I ordered the Sole which was buttery, lemony, rich, and beautifully presented. It was served with a side of sautéed spinach. The hubby ordered the cheese raviolis which were pillowy pockets of pasta and not too heavy, even though it would appear so. A basket of bread was served as usual with the meal. For dessert, we each had an espresso and shared the profiteroles. They were baked to perfectly and topped with a warm chocolate sauce, with extra on the side. When I come to Paris, I enjoy the architecture, the art, the people but to be honest my soul reason for coming is the food and wine. Today I stopped by and made a reservation in person. The staff here was very helpful in accommodating my wishes as only French restaurants can. The whole day the expectation of what was to come at dinner was on my mind as I stolled through the city. I was not going to be disappointed. Upon arrival we were warmly greeted and seated. A bottle of sparkling water, bread, and slices cured sausage was promptly delivered. The two types of bread were exceptional, the baguette is not house but the house bread had a delightfully crispy crust and was warm, soft, and tasty. The sausage was mild, moist, and hearty. Inwoukdnt be surprised if the were casing and aging it in house but I did not confirm this. I ordered a grey goose, tonic, with lime while I looked over the food and wine menu. They delivered a generous pour of Vodka and lime with a bottle of Tonic. Our server made the pour and it was perfect. In Paris you take your time and after we enjoyed our cocktails we made our order. We ordered foir gras, escargot, steak tartare, guineafowl, lemon meringue tart, and crepe suzette for dessert. The duck foie gras and escargot cane out together and delivered in a reasonable amount of time. The foie gras had subtle seasoning, dense yet creamy and mature. Pared with a toasted long rectangle of bread and a touch of garnish, this was a triumph. The escargot was expertly prepared and came in the shell which I prefer. Tender, flavorful, and expertly seasoned, this is the taste of Paris. After we enjoyed our starters our entrees were delivered in a reasonable amount of time and two glasses of their house Bordeaux special reserve accompanied our plates. The wine was excellent, well built with a hint of blackberry and pleasantly fragrant. The steak tartare was accompanied with heart fries which were tender yet perfectly crisp. The steak tartare itself had a mature French mustard tone, seasoning was subtle, and topped with crisp sliver of anchovies, solidly the second best steak tartare I have had in all my travels. The guineafowl with Mushroom and carrots was expertly cooked with a crisp finish to the meat. The garnish of puree carrots and ginger made this dish a game changer. This dish is not to be missed. After a bit of a rest our lemon meringue tart and crepe suzette arrived. The lemon meringue tart came with a thyme glace. To be honest I am not usually a fan of meringue but this one was crisp and the taste was delicate and I enjoyed it very much. The glace stole the show though with its creamy texture and hint of thyme. Expertly balanced and wonderful. The crepe suzette here is traditional and it's very welcome. The delicated crepe in caramelized grand marnier packs the end of night punch you need while the mandarin orange shines through. This is the best crepe suzette I have had in all my travels without question. Chez Monsieur is not to be missed while visiting Paris. Make sure to reserve a table inside our outside as you wish. We didn't have reservations and they were fully booked for lunch. Bit they were kind and gracious enough to make us 2 seats at the bar which we both appreciated. My wife was wanting some fish and I was on carb overload. So the menu at this place was something that worked out well. We ordered the Filet Mignon which came with fries and the Dover Sole that came with sautéed spinach. I ended up trading my fries with my wife so that I could have the spinach. She preferred the fries and I just wanted at least one meal without carbs or sugar for a change. Both were good, although my steak was slightly overcooked. I also think that the quality of the beef in France isn't quite as tender as the beef in America. With that said though I think that the French make up for this by accompanying the beef with amazing sauce. The restaurant is a small bistro with no outside sseating but is quite popular with lots of locals eating there. I would say that this place is a good choice for traditional French cooking if you want to take a break from the tniy artistic dishes on large plates. read more

Had to grab a quick meal before an evening work call and lucked out thanks to Yelp. A charming warm bistro interior. Radishes, slices of sausage charcuterie and fresh warm sourdough and grain breads served immediately. I explained I was in a hurry and the food arrived within minutes: a sea bass with crispy skin on braised fennel with a subtle sauce. Complimentary warm Madeline with fig sauce provided for dessert. This day I dined alone for lunch, which is rather fun once in a while. Today it was fun! And by my photos of lunch, I am sure you can tell why. I ate and drank like a king, life was good. My hotel made a last minute reservation for me, and when I walked in they sat me immediately. I ordered a drink that my server recommended, since they don't have Aperol. Hit the spot, so I had two! I asked how the escargot were, she said excellent. Done ordered. I love Dover Sole, so it was a no brainer on that order. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint! SO delicious! I asked for a dessert that had a lot of chocolate, the server steered me toward the profiteroles. I follow her advice, and boom! Another win, as the profiteroles are covered in chocolate for days! It was their only real chocolate dessert to choose from, which made me sad, but I still loved them. This was our final meal in Paris and WOW was it a disappointment. Everything from the maitre d and service to the food and complete lack of awareness was shockingly bad. To start the maitre d was rude and questioned if we actually had a reservation and had a condescending tone the entire time. We are Americans, not sure if that came into play. Next the service was severely lacking, there was no check to see how we were doing, no offer of a second drink and also proceeded to serve my fiancé raw chicken, you'd think you would notice that when serving. We asked for the chicken to be cooked more thoroughly and we're shown zero compassion not even a "sorry about that" let alone comping the dish. We left the restaurant without finishing our meals. Every other dining experience we've had in Paris was amazing. I would give this zero stars if I could. read more

A terrific experience! I definitely recommend Chez Monsieur. Its a fun little Bistro, right off the Madeleine, that is welcoming. Andre (the Manager) was very responsive to emails, & very welcoming on the night. Our waiter was charming & very friendly, and a font of knowledge about wine (to whom we deferred the choice). After reading the reviews, I felt that I had no choice but to order the escargots and the Blanquette. Both were divine. My Sweetie had the foie gras (seriously GTFO...), & the sole Meuniere (delicious & light). Our waiter suggested the berries meringue (amazeballs). After a week in France I must my share that this was one of the most incredible establishments we visited! The owner greeted us and despite saying that her English was poor she spoke to us fluently for most of the evening! The menu is limited and consists very traditional dishes. We started off with escargot in garlic and butter and foie gras terrine. Both were amazing! The owner recommended the duck for two, carved at the table and prepared two different ways. It was amazing! The second serving of the duck was the dark meat which was cooked in orange juice and served on turnip. The service was impeccable and the atmosphere was friendly! I only wish I had room for more of their dessert and their incredible cheese selection. We are so glad the hotel concierge recommended the establishment. The owner is about to open a second restaurant and when we return to Paris we will absolutely try it. read more

This was the best meal I've ever had. We came here at the suggestion of our concierge for a classic French meal and it was perfect. We had the scallops appetizer with avocado sauce and we loved it. We also had the escargot which were the most flavorful I've ever had. My husband had the fillet and raved about it. I had the veal stew at the recommendation of our concierge and I am so glad I did. Absolutely horrible service. The servers were extremely rude and unhygienic. One of them dropped radishes that come with bread and picked them up and put them right back in the bowl and served it as nothing happened. When I asked to get it replaced after explaining the situation, there were no apologies. They didn't take our coat while they took coats of other French customers, and they forgot my request to get more bread. For the money I am paying, this kind of service is unacceptable. My husband and I visited Paris for my birthday a few weeks ago and Chez Monsieur was by far our favorite meal. On our first night we didn't know how we'd be feeling with jet lag so we hadn't made a reservation anywhere. Our hotel recommended this place and called to see if they could fit us in on a Sunday night-they could and by the time we walked the 15 minutes to the restaurant, they had a nice table for us by the window. Our French isn't great but they humored us and also spoke perfect English, which was helpful and appreciated. We had a couple of carafes of the house red wine, which was great. When we sat they brought out a generous basket of fresh bread along with a nice plate of sliced meat with butter. We began with the escargot and foie gras. The escargot was delicious and flavorful, and my husband really enjoyed the foie gras. It's not really my thing but I tried it and enjoyed it more than others I've had. For our main dishes I had the steak and my husband had the veal blanquette. Both were amazing. My steak was cooked perfectly and the potatoes it came with were crispy and delicious. The real star though was the blanquette. We'd never had it before and it was just perfect. The meat melts in your mouth and the creamy sauce is rich and flavorful. The portion of this was huge and was more than enough so that we could both enjoy some. We had no room for dessert but they brought us some madeleines with applesauce to finish the meal. The restaurant is so cozy and relaxing as well. We're always a bit skeptical when we ask hotels for recommendations with the fear of being sent to a tourist trap, but the crowd here was a good mix of locals and travelers like us. From the friendly staff, to the delicious food, to the great atmosphere, I'll dream of this meal in Paris forever. read more

Ordered Sole fish thinking expensive dish must be good. I was wrong. It had just plain taste. Had to raise my hand to get attention from the server. My guest and I ordered appetizers and entrees - the foie gras was so good, and the haricots verts salad was excellent as well. For dinner, we got the sole and duck. Both were delicious. I'm usually not a huge fan of duck but my dish made me change my mind. The dessert was the star of the show - get the profiteroles!
