Terrine de canard et foie gras

Great elegant French restaurant in Montreal! I loved the area here as it was much quieter and had quite a few nice restaurants on the same street. Great place to have a beautiful dinner for an occasion or a nice date night. They have a great selection of drinks and wine. I ordered a bubbly rosé and my sister ordered the Sancerre Sauvignon blanc, which I recommend both. To start, my family and I ordered the Lobster Bisque, Terrine de canard et foie gras, and the Snails and Mushrooms with Chablis sauce. I really enjoyed the snails the best! The mix of dipping the bread with the snails and mushrooms is a great appetizer to start and share for the table. The lobster bisque had a strong lobster taste in the soup that my family enjoyed. It was great to start the table off with something warm. The Terrine de canard et foie gras was my least favorite out of all three appetizers but I'm glad I got to try it since I've never had this before. For our main entrees, we ordered the beef tartare, salmon tartare, wild shrimps with linguine, and the rabbit special. We enjoyed all the entrees as they were all very different but delicious. The shrimp was cooked beautifully and the lemon and lime sauce linguine was a refreshing taste for me but some of my family did not like the lemon taste in the pasta as much. The beef and salmon tartare were great and came with a small salad and some fries. Very great combo for some protein, carbs, and vegetables. The rabbit special came with mashed potatoes and it was very soft and cooked very well. We also ordered desserts which we highly recommend. We ordered an ice cream dessert that had chocolate syrup and almonds drizzled on top that was our favorite. Overall, we enjoyed our meal overall and would love to come here again if we're in town. This place is great for an elegant dinner or have a nice date night.

+.5 for service I've been to Lemeac across the street in previous visits, but have always been curious of this place. I finally managed to book a reservation over the holidays. I was coming from NYC to Montreal, and got stuck at the border crossing for about 45 minutes. They were accommodative in us needing an extra 15-30 mins to get there. Parking is street parking on Laurier Ave. Really nice street to explore mind you. The ambiance looks very French contemporary. Even the servers are dressed like you're dining in a French bistro. I had the lobster bisque, escargots with pastry, and clergy bouillabaisse. All excellent, especially the escargots. It was presented uniquely, and the pastry meshed with the escargots and cream sauce really well. Service was excellent, they even replaced my mom's filet mignon after it being overcooked (well done vs medium), and took it off our bill, PLUS adding dessert on the house. We ended up ordering a decent frozen nougat with liqueur and some red fruit candy. Given the service we received and that we liked most of the food we ordered, I'm happy to return here in the future.

Profiteroles dessert. Yum! Came drizzled with chocolate sauce and almonds.

When your friend asks you if you want to eat at the restaurant that the prime minister Justin Trudeau eats, then you go and eat there! And that's what we did. On a whim, we ended up at this place and they were very accommodating with our impromptu reservation. We arrived and were seated promptly. The service was excellent and very attentive. The ambiance is beautiful and you feel like you've been transported to a restaurant in Paris. However, the food fell a bit short hence why I took one star out. Service: 5/5 amazing! Our waiter was super attentive and our food was brought out in a reasonable amount of time. We ended up being the last ones leaving and they let us take our time to finish which I really appreciate. Ambiance: 5/5 Beautiful decor and many lovely French items adorning the walls. There's also a second floor that overlooks the main street fyi which is good to know if you call in advance and book a table up there! Food: 3/5 Unfortunately the food fell a bit short. Mind you this is NOT typical Parisian food, instead it's a more traditional type of French food. We ordered the Levesque salad and the croquettes. The croquette was unfortunately very salty and thanks to the complementary pickles I was able to eat it. Now for the main meal. Typically if I'm spending a lot of $$ on a meal, I'd want my dish to be tasty and worth it. This was not the case. I got the flambé fish which in theory sounded delicious and they even brought it out to you flambé style which was really cool. However the taste was bland. The sauce that came with it was not at all complementary. The legumes that was paired with it fell short so in itself it was a huge disappointment. My husband got the beef steak which was a thousand times better. So definitely go for the meat dishes here!!! However the dessert was delicious. I had the lime cheese cake and hubby had the profiteroles. Both were devoured pretty quickly. So all in all, I'd rate this place 4 stars. If you are in the mood to try French food I'd recommend this place. I would just be weary that the dishes may be lacking some flavor and you may be disappointed by the food. However you will get amazing service and still have a lovely dinner.

Came here for MTL à table. Since we were a big group, we got to try almost everything on the menu. For the food: some dishes were great and some were disappointing. The best ones were the steak, the mousse de foie de volaille and the duck. The lobster bisque was pretty good. However, the quenelle was extremely salty and it came with bland long grain rice. It was a bit sad eating that while others enjoyed their delicious duck or steak. The desserts were pretty great. The service was good. We had an enjoyable service. It was a bit long before getting our food and we were very hungry. The complimentary bread definitely helped. Overall, it was a good experience. However, I don't think we would come back.

This restaurant is opposite Leméca . Today I know why Lemece is full house. And this restaurant has so many seat. I tried this restaurant in the afternoon. It seems that I eat a lot of sodium. All the food is very salty, and the service is not as expected. I don't think I will patronize again!

I've dined out here on several occasions, after nine o'clock of course, and here is what I have to say: The food was, once again, spectacular. They never disappoint. When I go to chez leveque I always pick their more exotic plates. From the plating to the flavours, It's just perfect. The decor has a controversial catholic religious theme which precisely matches the menus, washroom, and second floor. It perfectly flows throughout the restaurant. The service is on point. As soon my girlfriend and I walked in, we were instantly greeted by two different waiters whom assured us that we will be seated within the next five minutes. Moreover, of you mentioned them on Facebook or Twitter, you get a free drink! This restaurant has become my 2015 favourite restaurant.

Tasty, crispy, rich. - Grilled octopus on pepper sauce with potatos $24. Really tender and flavourful. The sauce was bright and acidic - Sorrel soup $13.75. First time having sorrel. Quail itself wasn't as flavourful but the sauce was amazing and soaked into the rice - Creme brulee $15. Flavour was impeccable. The restaurant was cozy and intimate with below average noise levels. The servers and waitstaff was kind and attentive. The restaurant also had a high chair for our baby, which was nice! The prices were fairly reasonable for a restaurant of this caliber at $$ to $$$ depending on the main course. Cromesqui (9/10) - a very delicate appetizer. Expertly crafted with a nice crisp outer shell and a flavorful gravy burst in the middle. Foie Gras Nigiri (9/10) - another fantastic starter. Foie gras over flavored rice serve on an Asian soup spoon. They provided a soy sauce to add to the appetizer and it was very good! Squid ink Risotto (8/10) - solid main dish. Had large pieces of squid and whelks. I'm usually not a risotto guy, but this was good. Only feedback I had on this dish was I felt it was a bit too salty. Duck in a Can (8/10) - this was one of their marquee entrees. The whole entree came in a can they opened table side and presented onto the dish. It came with duck, Foie gras, braised cabbage and celery root puree. Great presentation and I only wished the duck was a bit more tender on mine. Pounding chômeur (10/10) - We topped off dinner with the pounding chômeur or "poor man's pudding." This was one of the best things I ate in Montreal. Plus it didn't have capers which imo overwhelms tartares. Duck with carrot: as a Chinese person I've had my share of duck but this might be the best duck I've ever had in my life. Pics and reviews looked great, so we made plans to dine here during our penultimate night in the city. Barroco is located in Old Montreal, right on Rue Saint-Paul. The exterior has really charming curb appeal, and upon entry we were greeted by the same. This isn't a large restaurant, arranged with tables and a few booths throughout the space and a bar on the back wall that serves as a focal point. The vibes were on - the restaurant was tastefully decorated with a mix of old-fashioned fixtures, stone walls, and earth tones. The restaurant was quite lively - the vibes were on. Their drink menu is quite creative; we actually started our evening at the bar while we were waiting for our table and the bartender made some great suggestions - both cocktails I had were really good. The food menu is mostly French inspired; it wasn't extensive but they had a good variety of creative dishes. We decided on two starters - the brioche and the octopus salad. The brioche was fine, it came as one roll with a side of seasoned butter. It was a little on the dry side, and the butter wasn't very flavorful. The octopus salad was much better; the octopus was sliced and arranged on top of a ratatouille which provided a good complement of flavors and textures. For my main I got the OG braised beef. The beef was almost pot-roast style, seasoned with maple and aged balsamic sauce and paired with truffled celery root purée. This was delicious - the beef was super tender, and the sauce provided great flavor. The puree was an awesome side - the entire trip was super comforting and familiar while also being new and interesting. We decided to get two desserts - the madeleines and the olive oil cake. The former were baked fresh and came with a side of chocolate pudding and salted caramel, while the latter came with whipped cream and coached pears. Both were good, but I preferred the madeleines; the warm sponge paired with the chocolate and caramel was a great finisher to the meal. Service was great - everyone from the host to the bartender to our waiter made us feel welcome; they definitely elevated the experience. Overall, I had a great time at Barroco; the food, vibes, and service were all on point. I would definitely consider returning the next time I'm in Montreal.

The food looked incredible too, but sadly we'd already eaten and were leaving the next morning.
