My wife and I ate dinner here on Sunday Sep 29, 2019. Next door to our hotel - Hotel Gramaldi. The place is a multi-generation restaurant that serves great Niçoise selections for a great price I'd like to add. We enjoyed burrata as a starter and my wife enjoyed the Coq au vin and I had the fish of the day that was simply prepared and was delicious. We sat just ourside (our preference), but there is a nice inside space for you to enjoy a meal.

    Salad Niçoises

It was a solid meal at Chez Dania however my wife and I walked away very disappointed. The first issue is that I utilized Yelp to find a restaurant in Nice, Chez Davia was the clear choice. The problem is while researching I read these wonderful reviews of 3 or 4 entrees that I was looking forward to trying unfortunately I did not know that the menu changes often, often enough that the menu is hand written and photocopied. The Duck, the steak, the chicken cordon bleu all would have been choices I would have made....unfortunately none of those items were on the menu. Given the circumstances we went with the Salad Niçoises, Chicken Coq Au Vin and the Mussels with Frites. All three items were very good but I had my mind on the other items. The service was pretty bad, the waiter didn't speak English which is more than fine however he lost patience and treated us like second class citizens. My entree came out and my wife's did not for at least another 10 minutes and that's unacceptable on any terms. Again the meal was great, the Coq Au Vin has inspired my wife and I to look up recipes for it....hello Julia Child. The mussels were small and delicious, they were cooked in a wonderful sauce that I dipped bread into. The frites that came with the mussels were simple but delicious. Kudos to the Restaurant for offering copies of the menu in French and English. If you speak French and plan on visiting this restaurant I would call to find out what's on the menu prior to dining. The wine selection was very good and the prices were reasonable.

    Pesto pasta and mushroom ravioli

My sister and I went here right when they opened and we were the first ones. They were able to seat us without a reservation but the waiter said the kitchen needs 10-15 minutes to open. That was fine with us so we ordered drinks in the meantime. A few minutes later, the place started filling up. About 20 minutes later, we finally we able to order our food. We were the first to order our food so we expected to be served first. We ordered a cheese plate as a starter and I ordered the pesto pasta as my entree and my sister ordered the mushroom ravioli. It took about 15-20 minutes for us to get our cheese dish. We were almost finished our drinks at that point. The cheese plate was so disappointing and definitely not worth it for 12 euros. There was 4-5 tiny pieces of cheese on the plate. It took about 15 minutes to get our entrees. Even though we ordered first, they served 2-3 tables before us which was ridiculous. The entrees were also disappointing. Both of our entrees were the size of an appetizer. The pesto pasta was almost cold and tasted bland. The pesto pasta was 12 euros and the mushroom pasta was 26 euros. After we finished our entrees, we didn't even want to get dessert because we knew it would take another 20 minutes just to get a slice of cake. We were there way longer than we wanted because of the SLOW service. Overall, I would avoid this place. It's too overpriced. I wouldn't mind paying more money but the service and food isn't worth it. Their menu was also handwritten on a sheet on paper in sloppy handwriting which is very unprofessional for a "high-end" restaurant. Their menu items change constantly so be aware that any menu you see on Yelp, will be different in the restaurant. The menu I had was really lacking. Besides the 2 entrees we got, the rest of them were either fish or rabbit and none of that look appetizing. The interior is really small and only has about 8-9 tables. It's really cramped so don't except to sit comfortably. TLDR: AVOID. Extremely slow service. Overpriced. Bad food.

We had a late dinner at Chez Davia last night. The restaurant is right next to our hotel, Le Grimaldi. We had the sole fish dish and the lamp sliders. We noticed that the owner was also there to ensure that the staff was meeting her high standards. This place is not touristy. It's a local restaurant with mostly Nice residents. The food was amazing and absolutely delicious. It is the quality of food you'd find at fine dining restaurants. The food was far more superior than the fine dining experiences my wife and I have had in the states. Highly recommend!!!

    Ratatouille- Very Good

We decided to have Italian before we left Nice. Situated on a quiet street and away from the mega cafes throughout nice. Seats around 40 with the outdoor patio. Chez Davia literally next to our hotel. The food is -5 stars. The ratatouille is served cold and is excellent. Two of had the spaghetti in a fra Diablo sauce with seafood. Big portion. Very heavily seasoned compared to US "version". Very good. All of our food was great. Service was sporadic, some of which could have been language barrier. This is what keeps this being a 5 Star.

Small family-run place. Saturday night dinner. Very busy time. Cafe is fully packed. Beef ragu was tender and full of flavors. Desert - the best pears poached in red wine I've ever tasted! But! The worst service I've ever accounted. Had to calm my husband. We were sitted and waited for at leasr15 minutes - no attention whatsoever...Guests came after us, were kissed, sitted and served. We are still waiting. ...Long story short - we finally asked for (caught a waiter when he was passing by) and ate dessert, and left without being served any coffee or tea...just couldn't take any more wait...We came in around 8 pm, and it was already after 10... So, for authentic French cooking -100% recommend, but there are no guarantees if you would be treated with respect and minimum attention...

We were recommend this restaurant by a friend who lives in Nice. It was a very pretty family run restaurant with the excellent fresh food and friendly service. Unlike many other restaurants in Nice, they tried to communicate with you in English. I wanted to try all recommendations of the day that were Nicoise and Mediterranean. I especially loved the wine list they had. HIGHLY recommended!

The restaurant has a humble exterior (largely blocked by gelato customers), but once you descend the stairs into the dining area you are in a sheek, romantic, cellar. Intimately small but comfortable. The walls are lined with stone and endless wine bottles. The starters were all quite good. We had the snails, squid, and cheese plait. As a bonus, my waitress recommended an excellent wine to pair with the squid. It was spot on. My group shared the beef and tartafelle (forgive my spelling). The beef was succulent, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. I had no idea what to expect with the second dish but it was delicious and I would certainly order again. The prior night, I had the bakes camembert when eating solo. The dish is exactly as described. It's tasty, but I'd recommend it for a group since eating an entire block of melted cheese solo is challenging. Last but not least, the wait staff were wonderful! We really enjoyed chatting with our 2 waitresses, who went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed ourselves and our election of drinks. As a tourist, you really hope to stumble on a gem like this were the locals charm you and really guide your dining experience. If ever back in Nice, i'll certainly go again!

Also note there is no cell service or WiFi service in the restaurant. Nice ambiance in the restaurant and away from the hustle and bustle of Nice. We ordered the squid, Foie Gras and Filet Mignon. All 3 were very good though I am not a fan of the Fois Gras but it came with a nice salad and bread. The squid was seasoned well and cut thin and flash fried. The filet was sliced and cooked perfect The potatoes were great and also nice salad came with it. Service was ok. Prices Moderate.

This was our favorite meal of our trip to Nice!…read more Warning: Reservations are hard to come by we dropped by and only reservations available were for 9pm two nights later. We took it. The place is super relaxed. 5 maybe 6 tables which made the difficulty of reservations more understandable. Prix fix menu - 4 appetizers to choose from, 4 entrees and 4 desserts. We were there with somewhat of a limited diet, but the options were awesome. We got a cauliflower appetizer and an artichoke one. Both were excellent. We all had the cod for dinner also delicious - served in a bath of traditional fish soup and with potatoes. The dessert was also excellent - we got the goat cheese in olive oil and garlic, the cream cheese with blueberry compote, lemon cheesecake and cinnamon "tiramisu". Every bite was full of flavor and such cool takes on the food. Now the intangibles - we arrived for our 9pm reservation, restaurant closes at 9:30 and we probably didn't walk out until 11:15 and there was still another table of 8 people dining. The host/waiter, Sebastian, was awesome. So friendly and we at no point felt rushed. In fact the opposite. When our daughter was slow in finishing her meal he joked with her instead of hurrying us along. Once we finished our main dish, he casually brought us our dessert and because we didn't order his favorite (we didn't know) he brought us out an extra to enjoy. We felt a little bad so somewhat accelerated the dessert phase so we could square up and leave. Instead he was unhurried, he casually cleared our table and chatted with us for a bit. It took us another 15 minutes before we finally said could we get the bill. He brought it to us another 5-7 minutes later. We had a great experience and one of our best meals in France, if not the best.
