Excellent excellent. The agneau was one of the best I have ever eaten. Loved the escargot entree. I can't wait to return!!!

Local restaurant serving excellent Mediterranean French cuisine, lobster pasta was creamy, crustacean forward, al debate; burrata perfectly mozzarella cheesy and fresh at the same time; beef cheek infused with flavor and umami, braided sea bass was masterfully prepared and presented. Perfect service and friendly host. Large local wine list. Great neighborhood feel in a busy beach side area. Merci!

This may be a tourist trap area but make no mistake, this place is excellent. After wandering the streets of Nice for what seemed like an eternity, we luckily stumbled/settled on this place. Obviously, we had no reservations, so no premium/outside seating. All good, since everything else seemed promising. For starters, we had the fish soup. It was kind of a soup and kind of a bisque and totally delicious. Light and flavorful, it went great with a nice piece of bread. For the mains, I had the octopus on a bed on potatoes and my wife had the veal cheek. The octopus was perfectly seasoned and the shredded chorizo gave it just a bit of heat. The veal cheek was probably unlike any other veal/beef dish I've ever had. It was glorious. For dessert, we had a profiterole with chocolate and a creme brûlée. Both of which were a perfect way to end a splendid meal. The staff was also great. Attentive and not pushy. So, if you been walking the Promenade de Anglais and you find yourself hungry, head here. You won't be disappointed.

Giant profiterole with Grand-Mariner ice cream was decadent and delicious.

If you are strolling around Nice do yourself a favor and stay away from the tourist traps on promenade des Anglais and walk a few blocks inland to this gem of a restaurant! This was one of my favorite meals while in the south of France. We started our meal with fish soup which tasted like a smooth, silky, buttery bisque, infused with saffron. It was one of the most amazing things I've ever eaten! For my main I had the veal cheeks and they were melt in your mouth good, with the perfect fat to meat ratio. They were served with a side of buttery polenta. Hubby had the octopus with chorizo, which was perfectly cooked and seasoned with Provençal herbs. A friend ordered the sea bass which was not only delicious, but beautifully braided. Dessert was another high point with a profiterole the size of my head and lots of melted chocolate and Grand-Marnier ice cream. Talk about decadent! The vanilla creme brûlée was also huge and the vanilla bean flavor really popped. All this goodness and the prices weren't even exorbitant. Our mustachioed waiter was charming and friendly. This place gets packed so it's wise to make a reservations. We didn't know any better but they still managed to seat us inside. I'm still dreaming about this meal now that I'm back in New York.

Great food selection. The octopus with chorizo, potato and herbs is a must have. Service was great. Desserts can be improved but great presentation!

What an awesome restaurant! Once again, even in the south of France I can count on my trusty yelpers to steer me in the right direction. This quaint restaurant is a bit off the main promenade road in Nice making it feel a lot less touristy. The waiters were outstanding and we even saw and heard (as he was close to us) the chef explain how he made an awesome dish to an interested couple. The ambiance inside is gorgeous, but we are outside and the restaurant faces a little square were street singers serenade you through your dinner. For starters we had the French bean salad with prawns, which was awesome. My boyfriend got the sea bass (which came out in a gorgeous braid!) and I had the warm octopus with chorizo. Both were awesome. For dessert we tried the fondant with strawberries, which my BF loved. I was more fond of just the strawberries. Overall, and awesome experience and a must visit if in Nice.

    Lamb was absolutely excellent!

If you're in Nice, you must visit Franchin, and you must get the warm Octopus! That's an order!

Great meal in France!…read more This was a fantastic first dinner in Nice right off the main drag. We had reservation for 7pm and arrived a few minutes early. We waited a few minutes while they prepped our table and we were seated promptly. The vibe was cool, very French cafe feeling on the streets. The waiters were kind and attentive was you settled in. They patiently answered all our menu questions. We ordered the fois gras (because when in France), the duck and the octopus. All the food was excellent, the fois gras was perfect (although probably wouldn't order it again for ethical reasons). The octopus was absolutely perfect, very very easy to screw up, but they nailed it; every bit melting in our mouths. The duck breast was perfect, juicy and cooked to perfect. All the dishes were served with plenty of accompaniment. Great meal for a great French experience. Would highly recommend.

Walked over from a nearby hotel and grabbed a table by myself along the busy street. The servers…read morewere very friendly and spoke English well. It happened to be happy hour so I was able to take advantage of some great drink deals. For my dinner, I ordered the duck with vegetables, potatoes, and added a side of ratatouille. It was all very good and the portions were large for the price. The orange sauce was unique and it seemed to have orange peels in it as well. While this might be more of a touristy spot with this location, it was a true French menu, which was my goal. The food and service were very good and I'll come back.

This was our favorite meal of our trip to Nice!…read more Warning: Reservations are hard to come by we dropped by and only reservations available were for 9pm two nights later. We took it. The place is super relaxed. 5 maybe 6 tables which made the difficulty of reservations more understandable. Prix fix menu - 4 appetizers to choose from, 4 entrees and 4 desserts. We were there with somewhat of a limited diet, but the options were awesome. We got a cauliflower appetizer and an artichoke one. Both were excellent. We all had the cod for dinner also delicious - served in a bath of traditional fish soup and with potatoes. The dessert was also excellent - we got the goat cheese in olive oil and garlic, the cream cheese with blueberry compote, lemon cheesecake and cinnamon "tiramisu". Every bite was full of flavor and such cool takes on the food. Now the intangibles - we arrived for our 9pm reservation, restaurant closes at 9:30 and we probably didn't walk out until 11:15 and there was still another table of 8 people dining. The host/waiter, Sebastian, was awesome. So friendly and we at no point felt rushed. In fact the opposite. When our daughter was slow in finishing her meal he joked with her instead of hurrying us along. Once we finished our main dish, he casually brought us our dessert and because we didn't order his favorite (we didn't know) he brought us out an extra to enjoy. We felt a little bad so somewhat accelerated the dessert phase so we could square up and leave. Instead he was unhurried, he casually cleared our table and chatted with us for a bit. It took us another 15 minutes before we finally said could we get the bill. He brought it to us another 5-7 minutes later. We had a great experience and one of our best meals in France, if not the best.

Overall, I'd say the food is a 3.5/5 but the value is 5/5. I'd recommended Chez Palmyre if you want a real Nice experience, especially on a budget. Be sure to make a reservation well in advance.
