This was one of my favorite meals in Nice and I was in the area for 2 weeks. I loved it even better than Le Chantecler! Fantastique flavor in every dish and the souffle was the best I've ever had, soooo fluffy. Very good first dinner in Nice. We made reservations ahead of time and were glad we did. This is a small restaurant (as most in the area are). One thing I loved about this place (and several others nearby) is that the chef cares more about the quality of each dish than he does about turnover rates. This is really what makes a meal special, and what separates a good restaurant from a great one. He seemed to care a lot about each dish that left the kitchen. With that being said, I liked the menu, as it was smaller but still offered enough options for everyone. We ordered the braided fish and the steak, and both were delicious. The standout for me was the strawberry merengue that we ordered for dessert. We almost didn't get dessert (not a huge merengue fan) but have never seen a menu item like this so we figured we would try it out. It was delicious! I'm talking melt in your mouth, velvety smooth delicious. Just ordered it, even if you're not a merengue fan. Service was good as well. read more

The chef's attitude was very unprofessional. We couldn't find any foods on their menu that we could order. He walked up to our table and was asking us why we couldn't find anything on the menu to order and this place didn't have any understanding of our decision. The chef/manager screamed at us and told us to leave. The chef was very unprofessional and this type of behavior is unacceptable. We will never go back or recommend this place to anyone. This may be a tourist trap area but make no mistake, this place is excellent. After wandering the streets of Nice for what seemed like an eternity, we luckily stumbled/settled on this place. Obviously, we had no reservations, so no premium/outside seating. All good, since everything else seemed promising. For starters, we had the fish soup. It was kind of a soup and kind of a bisque and totally delicious. Light and flavorful, it went great with a nice piece of bread. For the mains, I had the octopus on a bed on potatoes and my wife had the veal cheek. The octopus was perfectly seasoned and the shredded chorizo gave it just a bit of heat. The veal cheek was probably unlike any other veal/beef dish I've ever had. It was glorious. For dessert, we had a profiterole with chocolate and a creme brûlée. Both of which were a perfect way to end a splendid meal. The staff was also great. Attentive and not pushy. So, if you been walking the Promenade de Anglais and you find yourself hungry, head here. Came back in June and just as impressed. We had the sea bass and lamb, both of which were excellent. Everything is beautifully seasoned. If you are strolling around Nice do yourself a favor and stay away from the tourist traps on promenade des Anglais and walk a few blocks inland to this gem of a restaurant! This was one of my favorite meals while in the south of France. We started our meal with fish soup which tasted like a smooth, silky, buttery bisque, infused with saffron. It was one of the most amazing things I've ever eaten! For my main I had the veal cheeks and they were melt in your mouth good, with the perfect fat to meat ratio. They were served with a side of buttery polenta. Hubby had the octopus with chorizo, which was perfectly cooked and seasoned with Provençal herbs. A friend ordered the sea bass which was not only delicious, but beautifully braided. Dessert was another high point with a profiterole the size of my head and lots of melted chocolate and Grand-Marnier ice cream. Talk about decadent! The vanilla creme brûlée was also huge and the vanilla bean flavor really popped. All this goodness and the prices weren't even exorbitant. Our mustachioed waiter was charming and friendly. This place gets packed so it's wise to make a reservations. We didn't know any better but they still managed to seat us inside. I'm still dreaming about this meal now that I'm back in New York. read more

What an awesome restaurant! Once again, even in the south of France I can count on my trusty yelpers to steer me in the right direction. This quaint restaurant is a bit off the main promenade road in Nice making it feel a lot less touristy. The waiters were outstanding and we even saw and heard (as he was close to us) the chef explain how he made an awesome dish to an interested couple. The ambiance inside is gorgeous, but we are outside and the restaurant faces a little square were street singers serenade you through your dinner. For starters we had the French bean salad with prawns, which was awesome. My boyfriend got the sea bass (which came out in a gorgeous braid!) and I had the warm octopus with chorizo. Both were awesome. For dessert we tried the fondant with strawberries, which my BF loved. I was more fond of just the strawberries. Overall, and awesome experience and a must visit if in Nice. read more

Our first meal in Nice was here. We had the ravioli, octopus and cheek dishes. The ravioli was creamy and was luscious. The octopus was accompanied with potatoes and very tasty. This place was not wow even though they have high rating from others. We went late so we got lucky without a reservation. The waiter spoke very well English and he knew we would want to share since in the France culture it's different. They serve olives and bread while you wait for your food which is a plus. The braided fish dust was good but the veil dish was salty. The fish soup was good. They were accommodating. There was no starter green salad so they made one for us. It's not a place I would go back though since the food taste wasn't wow. I was told Europe is slower pace but the waiting time for the food didn't seem like it was forever at this place. They have wifi. The toilets have a "h" and a "f" on the door. If you don't know, "h" is for men. I liked how this one has cushion bench so I can fit a little more comfortable. read more

Our first lunch in Nice started with a bang at this wonderful intimate restaurant about a block away from the sea. Everyone was extremely kind and helped us learn a little French, as they were fluent in English. An Englishman sitting near us on the patio said he eats there all the time. We stumbled on this restaurant when we were looking for a nice dinner for our last night in Nice. We had researched a few places in yelp but didn't find them while walking around and found this menu. The menu board out front reads "French cooking. No pizza. No pasta." It was perfect since we were burned out on pizza and wanted a hearty meal. The menu was appealing with plenty of main dish options that sounded wonderful. Another bonus while reading the menu board was that all the dishes had an English translation underneath the French description. We ordered a bottle of wine to start. We were looking for a Provence red wine and the server recommended one. When I tasted it, it was very fruity but it mellowed out a bit once opened. The only downside to this part of our experience was the price. We paid 37 euros for the bottle and when we got home found out it retails for close to 6 euros. Needless to say we felt ripped off. The food was amazing though. We started with a warmed goat cheese salad. The goat cheese was laying over a bed of mixed greens with tomatoes and a light vinaigrette dressing. For our entrees, my boyfriend ordered the fish special. It was a turbot fish over a bed of mixed vegetables and puréed sweet potatoes with a Au Beurre Nantais sauce. It was very good and the perfect portion to not be stuffed. I ordered the lamb shank dish. The lamb shank was served with mashed potatoes and green beans. It was very good and the price was just right. I was not able to eat it all but my boyfriend finished most of it off. We finished feeling perfectly full. The dessert was amazing. It was a warmed chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream. The server informed us that all the desserts were handmade except the ice cream. It was phenomenol. We recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for a pleasant experience that lives up to what the menu says....French cooking!!! read more

We had a very nice meal here. The menu of main courses is quite small and really didn't sound as appealing once we sat down. However...the food turned out to be excellent! We had the lamb, veal cheeks, salmon and smoked salmon salad. To open it, we had the escargot. All were hits. I just upped the rating from four to five stars because the location was great. It was in the pedestrian district but just off of the main pedestrian street. This made it a bit less crowded than the main drag. We had no trouble getting a seat outside, but the terrace filled up by about 8:30 PM. They did turn over a few tables as some guests stayed for just a single course and were moving on to other things. As is often the case in France, it helps to call ahead for a table. They did have an English menu and bemusedly put up with our attempts at French. If you can read some dinner French, it is worth getting a French menu also as some of the original menu item names made more sense than the literal translation. read more
