We were lucky enough to head out to the ranch for Slow Food Orlando's tour of Deep Creek complete with cooking demos, hayrides and best of all, food samples! This is a family affair and we were able to meet and chat with owner David Strawn as well as Trish, Dale and Fran. We were taken on a too short tour of the ranch via hayride but that just gave us more time to eat! There were delicious cheeseburgers available- made with Deep Creek beef and Winter Park Dairy blue cheese. They also cooked up a delicious lamb burger with a wonderful Tzatziki sauce. These people really know their stuff and it only takes a moment of talking with them to realize this. They are very involved in the local food scene and are an advocate for Slow Food. If you want fresh, tender meat without the guilt go to Deep Creek Ranch. Their prices are more expensive ($7.50/lb. for ground beef) than your basic beef but it really does taste better. We picked up some steaks and ground beef and lamb for later.

Before the safari even started, Elena showed us around and introduced us to so many amazing animals. We saw two different species of otters, monkeys, lemurs, a tortoise, tiny deer, guinea pigs, pigs/boars, and even some very intimidating velociraptor-looking creatures (still not sure what those were, but wow). There were only three other people on our tour, so it truly felt like a private experience. Elena is an incredible storyteller. She is knowledgeable, funny, and genuinely kind. My daughter and I learned so much about the animals and the farm, and we were completely engaged the entire time. During the safari, we fed four different giraffes and saw deer, zebras, a cheetah, tapirs, warthogs, and a pygmy hippo. One of the giraffes, Kya, came back to us again so we could feed him more and he even let us scratch him, which was amazing. Then we got to feed the lemurs. There were about 30 of them who gently climbed all around us while we fed them grapes. They were so sweet and careful. Then Lex took us to feed the monkeys. We fed so many different kinds, and Lex was just as kind, knowledgeable, and engaging as Elena. He shared his background and how he started the ranch. They even have an adorable little gift shop to wrap up the visit. Elena and Lex truly could not have been more hospitable. We highly, highly recommend visiting.

We had the pleasure of attending a wedding at this beautiful venue. It is a hidden work of art just…read morenorth of Dade City. The route to the barn takes you through winding country roads of Old Florida. When you pull into the property, it immediately delights the eyes as the barn is just perfect in the middle of a field that has huge oak trees. The ceremony was setup underneath one of the pieces of natures artwork of an oak tree. White chairs and wood benches were partially under to. As the sun was starting to set, the ceremony began. No matter where the photographers stood, there was an amazing shot. After the ceremony, the guests were guided to the cocktail hour on the opposite side of the gigantic barn. High tops were nicely decorated. Drinks and finger food was displayed on two long tables. My kids along with many others were enjoying the wood swing under another oak tree. The grass was just the right length to not mess up your attire. Guests were having a wonderful time taking photos of the landscape. Now the moment we were all waiting for, entrance into the barn was well-worth the wait. When you walk in, the barn opens up into wood ceilings with huge chandeliers that romantically create the mood for the event. At the back of the barn, on the wall was a white sheer curtain lit was tiny lights. In front of that was the bridal party's table. In the back right corner was the bar. The back left corner was the DJ. In the middle of the barn were big round tables and several long tables. Everyone was allowed to pick their seating family style. The restrooms were decorated and extremely clean. The staff was extremely friendly and attentive to the guests. (I do not know if the venue has its own staff or if they were brought in with a caterer.) It was a wedding from dreams and fairy tales. Everything was perfect from beginning to end. I wish I had taken more pictures of the venue but I spent so much time taking pictures of my family at the venue. Either drop the "sanctuary" BS and continue as a farm, or drop the animal exploitation and continue as a non-profit animal sanctuary. It's just that they seem to lack a purpose as direction. It really seems like they're using key words to try and cater to certain demographics to turn a profit. Like, almost as if they're trying to convince people to sympathize and buy more products. Animal sanctuaries are not easy, and they do not make you rich. That's why those that operate them tend to be vegan or at least very much in love with animals, and do not care about turning profits. They often rely on donations and volunteers rather than selling beef and eggs. Would love to give a higher rating but I just can't with them calling themselves an animal sanctuary.

My daughter Gia has been riding for a few years now but she has learned more with Manon in the last few months than she has in the last few years at a different barn. We drive over an hour to come here and we will keep doing it just for Manon and this amazing barn. She is not only a great trainer but her and her family are great people! We are so happy to be a part of C's Ranch and excited for all the progress to come!

The drive was a little ways from Orlando but worth every mile. I really enjoyed feeding the goats and cuddling them. There is limited bottle feeding so make sure to book early on the website and bring cash if you want to purchase additional feed as I lost cell service. The young ladies here were the sweetest, very knowledgeable and answered all my questions. I'm convinced that a couple baby goats are definitely in my future.
