Our u-pick citrus
Melody L.

Update: Pappy's has U-pick citrus now! We picked our own citrus and strawberries on Thursday at Pappy's Patch U-pick Strawberries (field B) in Oviedo. They had lemons, pink grapefruit, tangerines and honeybell oranges. We picked honeybell oranges and pink grapefruit. It smells so good in the citrus groves! I juiced them when I got home. It's delicious.

Winding roads will inevitably lead you to a large field where you'll be surrounded by lush greenery. As you walk up and down the aisle, the sun shines brightly on the ruby red jewels that taste so sweet and delicious, how could a strawberry possible taste this good? Can I tell you? Night and day difference between the strawberries you buy at the store and the ones you pick yourself at Pappy's. Not only do you have the satisfaction of picking the ones you choose, but the overall experience is relaxing and extremely enjoyable. You'll see lot's of families picking fruit together, taking pictures, enjoying the day (weather permitting). Always check their facebook page before heading out as they're very good about posting whether or not they will be open on that given day. Strawberries are $3 a pound, local raw honey is $10 (and worth it, trust me), they also have oranges and when the season arrives they'll have blueberries.

Nice experience, a lot of strawberries but not so cheap. Definitely is good for try but I paid around $24 for a small amount of strawberries and a strawberry jam.

This is my son's absolute favorite place.

I have a very special place in my heart for this place because my children are in love with it... specifically my two year old. He LOVES picking (and eating!!) strawberries at the strawberry patch and as soon as they open for the season we go at least 8-10 times. There is something about these berries that are just... BETTER. Perhaps because you hand pick the best ones yourself or the fact that you get them straight from the source. It makes picking up the stuff in the plastic cartons at Publix beyond disappointing. Sorry but it's true. Prepare to become a berry snob after visiting here. When you arrive you can choose boxes or pints to fill up and then pay at this little stand at the end. That's it. There are no benches or tables or anything else (well, sometimes there a honey vendor). It's simplistic and yet it's a staple of Oviedo. Prices are 3.25 a lb but I usually add on extra for my little strawberry thief that eats as he picks. (see photos) They take cash and cards. Check their facebook page for their openings and picking times... it always changes.

Who knew something like this existed so close! I decided to take my family here on Friday to check it out. Parking is right in front of the strawberry patches. We each grabbed a small container (there were six of us) and headed on out! When we went, the fruits were somewhat picked over, but we were able to eventually fill our containers with beautiful red, sweet berries. We had a blast trying to find the biggest berry.. and even the "weirdest" looking one. The weather was perfect for this! Once we were done, we made our way to the register. I paid $23 for 6 filled containers. It is $3/pound. This is a great price for the berries plus a super fun experience! They were selling some fresh local honey, as well as bottles of water and lemonade. All in all, I would totally go again!

An amazing little hidden gem. Love FL! Loved taking my girl to pick the BEST tasting strawberries we didn't check and didn't realize that they were closing at one and we arrived at around 12:45 PM. Whoops. But the lady let us in and we quickly picked what we could. It worked out because it was way too hot to stay there any longer anyways. Either way, we will return! The strawberries were so beautiful looking. They looked fake like plastic! And they tasted amazing! Didn't last but a few hours at our house before they were gone!

Sweetest strawberries I've ever had! We had so much fun picking the perfect strawberries to take home. We were so proud of ourselves when they were not only gorgeous but super delicious! Definitely a perfect girls day or family activity! I will be going back for more!

Strawberry season is here! Yippeee! After a few months of the 'brutal' Florida weather (um yeah...), Pappy's Patch has reopened its sweet gates to strawberry picking! On this cold day (OK, now i'm serious - it was chilly!), we ventured out to the patch. I'm not sure how big an acre or two but I'll estimate that its about that size. There are rows and rows of strawberries plants for the gather to choose from. No one has to fight over which row because just mosey on down to the next one. The steps to start your picking is pretty simple - go to the truck, get a pint or a tray if you want a lot of strawberries from those nice ladies, and your hands are your tools. A few tips for your purse: bring cash (no money no fruit!), wear sneakers bc its sandy there, bring some shades to block the floridian sun & check out their FB page for when they are opened because you don't want to waste a trip out there to find out that they are out of strawberries for the day. Also, don't fret - non strawberry loves - later in the year they'll have blueberries too. Don't like blueberries either? Keep an eye out on their site and sometimes they sell other plants that may be to your liking. CLOSE ON MONDAYS - ALWAYS....

Love this strawberry berry patch. They always have great looking strawberries. We come here to pick strawberries with the kids they love it too. The price of the berries are good too.

We love pappys patch and try to go every year. The strawberries are always so much more delicious and flavorful than store bought. We got there right after they opened and there were already a ton of people picking, but we still got a good amount of ripe berries.

Not still if they are still open this year. My entire family has enjoyed hand picking and selecting their own strawberries for 20 years

This market happens every Sunday along Lake Eola and features tons of local produce stalls as well as prepared food and drinks stalls and artisans selling their wares. It's a pleasure to walk around and look through the diversity of offerings. It's massive and one of the larger markets I've ever been to. Plus- they have shaded areas under trees with picnic tables for enjoying your food. It's also dog-friendly, so be prepared to enjoy the vast sizes and breeds strolling along with their owners. Overall, a great market for a fun morning. I wouldn't consider it the best market for dropping by to quickly grab produce, rather it's more of an experience to enjoy on a Sunday.

There is no better way to spend a Sunday than by supporting small, local business and having a picnic on the various lawns. My go-to are Cedar Hive Honey, Worthy Snacks, and House of Jerk Cedar Hive Honey has great honey flavors at a very reasonable price for locally sourced honey! Worthy Snacks have the absolute BEST pork rind flavors. You must get the salt & vinegar and garlic Parmesan- WOW. You get a massive bag for $8 or 2 for $15. House of Jerk has some really unique jerky flavors that my husband and I love. They have a 9 for $20 deal on jerky. A new spot I tried recently was Soulful Sazon. Definitely get their chicken pinchos and seafood egg rolls- yum! Don't forget to stop by and get a fresh coconut water. Very hydrating on a hot day!
