Becky and I stopped by the Cheyenne this morning for a late breakfast. We seated ourselves at a four top, greeted with Coffee and Water a minute later. Most tables were occupied with local patrons and few hunters fueling up. Becky choose the Bacon and Cheese Omelette with Salsa, she was all smiles. Walked in after 9:30 on a Saturday, the town was not very busy. The restaurant wasn't super packed, there was a decent amount of patrons. We sat down to get coffee and breakfast, the woman was very condescending and rude. Took our order. We sat there for an hour and 20 minutes waiting for our food, requested to switch tables and sit outside after 45 minutes of waiting and was yelled at and told no we could not because they couldn't figure out the tickets. Too long of a wait for this food, while the food was cooked good help, the waitresses, and the establishment is not worth your time. The BLT was delicious and the battered fries were hot and crispy! This is a cute local place with outdoor seating and can have your dogs sit outside with you. The food was good. We loved there hashbrowns, biscuits and chicken tenders. All seemed fresh made. Cheyenne Cafe had a very good breakfast at a reasonable price. Nice, yet unassuming, place right on the main street of Joseph. We were seated quickly and our food came hot and ready a few minutes later. I especially liked the inside, there were cool paintings and even a model train in the background. We yelped this place...and I thought, I hope it is at least edible. Wellllllll...let's begin with the amazing staff. I have never, ever, ever, even in the most expensive fine dining experience I have had, ever been treated so well by a staff. They welcomed us, checked on us, and they really CARED that we like it. We aren't local, they won't see us again for some time, and yet, they treated us like we were their best customers! Then the food came. The biscuits and gravy were the BEST I have ever had. It reminded me of my childhood. Flavorful gravy, amazing biscuits that could have floated off the plate--if they weren't weighed down by the luscious gravy. The sausage patty is no baby patty. We were looking for a straightforward filling lunch, and the Cheyenne Cafe was the right choice. I opted for the BLT, which arrived with perfectly toasted sourdough, and fries that had a crispy seasoned coating that helped keep them hot. My wife went with a half sandwich and taco soup. It's not uncommon for one of the 'soup of the day' options at a restaurant to be chili. The 'taco soup' did turn out to be a fine bowl of what I would call chili. It's entirely possible that the folks at Cheyenne reserve the word 'chili' for a different variation on the dish - it was just odd not to have the naming be as expected. Great little cafe, just moved to joseph a few days ago...want to support local businesses, so I chose here. Free Wi-Fi, which is a plus when you have to wait to get internet in a small town. Great ambience, full of locals with tall tales and loud guffaws. Coffee good and free pouring. The meals...oh man, huge. I ordered half a hash brown and sausage gravy still took some home. Portions are huge, the ham steak. bring a friend, the cinnamon roll, bring a wheelbarrow. the hash brown portions alone were filling and huge. All hot. Steaming.just how it should be. Had four different items so far.the chicken fried steak was good, half went home with me, the crispy coating was great, and the gravy was ribsticking. Eggs perfect. Wife and I had lunch here. Our first visit. We had Southwest Chicken Soup with a fresh hot buttered biscuit and a Mushroom Burger with Special Frys. All the food was fresh and homemade, including the hamburger bun. Very Good. For dessert we had their famous cinnamon roll. It's big, fresh, hot and buttery. We shared the cinnamon roll but couldn't eat it all. I'm enjoying the take with coffee for breakfast today. Wonderful. The servers and cooks are wonderful people. Planning to come back for breakfast. The least flavorful breakfast I've ever had. Seriously worse than hospital food. The food tastes like the chef is allergic to spices or flavors. The bacon was all fat, undercooked, and bland. The gravy was bland. The biscuit was sweet. The eggs tasted like grease and that's all.
