Me and my wife stopped here after spending time in the forest. We had chicken strips and fries and tots with toast and fry sauce. It was perfect! From the dipping sauce to the soda to the chicken strips and tots. We also didn't have to wait on re-fills. Our waitress was very prompt. It was a great experience in a cute little town. We had excellent service at this small cafe, really the only food option in Kooskia. I was impressed that there were a couple of vegetarian options. We had delicious homemade blackberry pie. Pie is a specialty here and there were several options. Very good value for the size of slice. My only quibble was that it took a long time for the food to arrive, despite there only being a few customers eating at the same time. At first, I accepted that as a feature of a small town cafe, but the more I think about that, I wonder why that is? Our order wasn't particularly complicated. But truthfully, I would not hesitate to recommend this place, especially the pie. I'm still thinking of it, weeks later. read more

We were staying in the area and found it difficult to find a restaurant that was open. After several tries we found this restaurant. It is located in a very small town in an older building. We had reservations about the food but it turned out that the food was excellent and so was the service. They make homemade pies too and they are excellent. We had the liver and onions and the chicken fried steak which were both wonderful and the price was good too. Dinner was so good that we came back the next morning for breakfast and it was wonderful also. For a small town with not many options this restaurant and the Chinese restaurant in town are very good and I recommend both of them. read more

Our family stopped by the Kooskia Cafe as we are staying overnight in the area and we loved it! We got the taco salad and the roast beef with melted cheese on a toasted hoagie roll and au ju sauce! #delish!!! The main dishes come with bottomless fries or tater tots. I opted for the bottomless fries and they were great! Paired with their fry sauce, I was in bottomless heaven!!!! I definitely recommend this place and will be sure to stop in for a tasty dish whenever we pass through here! read more

Got a recommendation from the place we stayed last night and it exceeded our expectations. Friendly, fast and efficient service and great food. I love a good breakfast and my biscuits gravy and eggs were cooked perfect. The only reason I give it four stars is their coffee wasn't great. They did give you all you wanted. We came here based on the reviews and I was craving the taco salad I had seen on the menu beforehand. When we got there I noticed they had a roast beef sandwich on a toasted roll with melted cheese and auju dipping sauce. I couldn't decide between the two so my husband got the sandwich and I got the salad and we shared. Oh my goodness... both were uh-mazing!!! The beef in the taco salad was seasoned so well and came with a delicious thick hot sauce on the side. I wish I could've eaten all of both because they were just that good but alas, I got full quick! After a long drive from Missoula, where there is NOTHING along the way, we were all starving. Kooskia Cafe was a shining beacon and at that point we were ready to eat just about anything. This was my cousins experience.... After eating at the Kooskia Cafe twice a week, for the past 3 years ($6k plus), I was asked to provide paperwork to prove J is a service dog, or I had to sit outside. They have never previously ask. In fact, no one has ever asked (10 yrs), because it is a violation of the ADA. J goes everywhere with me, regardless of the business. As a 100% disabled Veteran, on the 4th of July, I am irate and want nothing more than retaliation. I am asking everyone to share your opinions of the situation, with Kooskia Cafe, until I get an apology. If this doesn't happen, I will file a complaint with the ADA and talk with an attorney. read more

When I want a great burger we get in the car and head for Kooskia Cafe. The 10 buck is juicy and fills me to the gills. The fries are some of the best! I occasionally crave liver and onions and find this dish to be quite tasty at this staff friendly cafe. Sure, when you have mega options of restaurants this might not be your first choice. We had breakfast here just this morning. Our waitress was top-notch! She greeted us right as we came in, brought us coffee and menus, and took our order as soon as we were ready. She earned every dollar of her tip! The food was so-so. The breakfast meats were tasty and nearly made up for the mushy hash browns and bland eggs. The coffee was weak, but I think that's normal for a cafe of this caliber. We will try to stop in again when we're in the area, maybe for lunch. read more

This place saved me when I first moved here. No phone, no internet and working on cold and muddy property. I often came here for a big warm breakfast (their sausage gravy is worth the trip alone), free wifi and great service. Their burgers, I recommend the Clearwater served with swiss and mushrooms, are nicely grilled and the homemade fry sauce is worth taking in a ziploc and stealing a gallon or so (of which I've jokingly threatened to do)... just a bunch of smoky, peppery goodness. There is an outdoor patio, that so far is dog friendly, which I hope to employ in the spring again on my walks into town with the Wondermutt. read more

Home style restaurant...to a degree. Yes, the food is basically what came off the truck, but gourmet wouldn't make it here anyway. Don't let that stop you. All ingredients taste great. The burgers are hard to turn away - quite tasty. The soup and salad are ALWAYS delicious! Chicken fried steak is usually good. The service can be a bit slower if it gets busy, buts it's always very friendly. Have eaten here more than I can remember and don't remember a bad experience. Food was fine BUT it took forever to get the food, the servers barely engaged or acknowledged our presence and it wasn't as if there were many guests - we went in for lunch at 2 pm! Options are definitely limited in Kooskia and I guess they know that. It's not hard to just give people some attention, chat, let them know what's going on. We'd have completely understood if they were understaffed in the kitchen or something but to watch the servers just stand around on their phones with no interaction with patrons made it a very disappointing experience. Wonderful little restaurant in Kooskia. Great for folks visiting or just passing through. I had the Philly cheese steak and fries. The wife had a grilled cheese. The food was good, the staff was polite, and the establishment was clean. I can recommend this place without any reservations. You will get great diner food and leave happy. read more

Second time coming to this cafe. First time food was pretty good. Service wasn't great. This time... Oh my talk about horrible food and service. I ordered the "perfectly seasoned sirloin steak" not a seasoning on it, baked potato wasn't done. The soup was great and so were the peas. The service sucked however. Didn't get refills on our drinks, server didn't check on us. When I paid I told her how nasty the food was and she was like "oh it wasn't good" I told her had she come to check on us she would have known. Her response was she was busy. I Looked around to see if I was missing something and still only 2 other tables. Really?? That's too busy? Oh my I would hate to see a rush.... I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone!!! read more
