I have visited a couple of times in the last year. Both times have been disappointing. When I initially wrote my review a few years ago, the food was great and reasonably priced. I can't say the same anymore. I purchased a piece of pie to go. Their pie slices used to be $4, now they are $6. They are nowhere near the same size I had previously. The peach pie I purchased was a tiny slice that could be eaten in 4-5 bites, and was nearly flat, which meant there wasn't much peach filling. I could have gotten a better dessert elsewhere. The least expensive sandwich is a grilled cheese for $10. The most expensive is a steak sandwich for nearly $20! They also were out of pizza when I visited. So, shrinkflation has found it's way to Pie Safe Bakery. While the ambiance is great, I am not sure I will not be back soon. read more

The turkey sandwich.... WOW. This is the best sandwich I have ever had. The bread is so soft and warm. The actual shop is so welcoming and cute I could spend hours here. I moved to Deary in 2009, but moved away in 2015. Just this past year I moved back here and in my absence The Pie Safe has opened! What an asset it is to the local community. I honestly have not had anything on the menu that I didn't like, but my favorites are. Breakfast menu: Breakfast burrito Pancakes and sausage Biscuits and gravy Lunch: ALL pizzas! If you ever find yourself in Deary, do yourself a favor and stop at The Pie Safe! On multiple occasions, it's been recommended that I visit, and I finally got the opportunity to do so yesterday. I ordered the potato bacon soup and a pastrami and cheese croissant, and was able to taste test the chocolate milkshake and pepperoni pizza, as well. It looks like they offer different soups daily, and I'm grateful to have come in on potato bacon soup day! In combination with the homemade bread roll that comes with it, it was flavorful and filling. The pastrami and cheese croissant was buttery and flaked apart in my hand. There's a creamery attached to the bakery, where you can watch cheese, raw milk, butter, etc be made and processed from scratch. It's for this reason that my partner decided to order a milkshake and a pizza. The ice cream was smooth, thick, and rich, and the cheese on the wood-fired pizza was divine. My partner said that it's the second-best pizza he's ever had! The staff is patient, flexible, and kind. When I asked if I could exchange an item on my order, they said yes without hesitation. The interior of the restaurant/bakery is well kept, clean, and fun to peruse. There are homemade quilts and stained-glass pieces, candles and soaps, and much more displayed around the seating area and in the attached gift shop. I will absolutely be making another trip to Deary in the near future so that I can try more food items! read more

Love this place. It's a little pricey but everything I've had here has been totally worth it. Croissants and danish, perfection. Pecan pie, heavenly. Pozole soup and fresh rolls, amazing. It didn't even have meat or the sausage and really didn't need it. I didn't miss it at all. We went for breakfast one day. Biscuits and gravy, delicious. Someone else at the table got the breakfast sandwich. Everything was so flavorful and well prepared. I want to try everything there and can't wait to sign up for one of their special dinners. If the Pie Safe had opened in Moscow, it'd have a line out its door. If it had opened in Portland, Seattle or or San Francisco, food writers would be raving about it and it would be topping Eater's Heatmap. The fact that food this good, in a space this impressive, exists in Deary, Idaho is nothing short of a miracle. Before coming to the Pie Safe, I knew two things about Brush Creek Creamery. The first, is that that they make delicious cheese and sell it at the Moscow Farmer's Market. The second was a rumour that every time someone from the community that runs the Creamery enters a craft fair, that person wins by a mile. We figured that if people who were known for amazing cheeses and best-in-the-county crafts were going to let us try their baked goods, we should go ahead and try their baked goods. We made the drive on a Saturday morning in November, and it's hard to know where to start. First, the food. We ordered coffee and a couple cinnamon rolls, literally fresh out of the oven. A couple cinnamon rolls wasn't nearly enough, so we went back for more. Twice. The three adults in our group agreed that these were quite possibly the best cinnamon rolls we'd ever had. The three children in our group were too busy stuffing their faces to make much of a comment. When we were done with breakfast, we changed our plans for the day just so we could come back for lunch. After a couple hours of hiking around Elk Creek Falls, we did just that. This time, we ordered potato soup (the best we'd ever had), french onion soup (the best we'd ever had), a cobb salad (I don't mean to be repetitive, but again, the best we'd ever had) and a couple wood fired pizzas (which give Maialina a run for its money). That was before we saw an entirely different kind of cinnamon roll available now, so we went back for one of those. I'm firmly in the "nuts ruin everything" camp, but even I couldn't resist that pecan roll. Craftsmanship is a word that gets tossed around too lightly. But craftsmanship is at the core of everything at the Pie Safe. From the car that's parked out front, to the beautifully restored building, to the food, to the furnishings, to the quilts hanging on the walls and the strip-built canoe hanging from the ceiling. To put it another way: if Ron Swanson walked in to the Pie Safe, he would weep big manly tears of joy, and never leave. I expect we'll be spending a lot more time in Deary in the near future. read more

The biscuits and gravy is above average. Sandwiches are fresh and tasty. Baked goods are old fashioned and spot on. Service is a little slow and not very friendly, but they get the job done.
