Worth making a trip. Food is phenomenal. Restaurant is spotless and service is always over the top.

This may be one of the most incredible finds in years. A quaint, surgically clean bakery/almost french cafe in a restored service station. The food is exquisite, the cheese is incredible and the bread is almost perfect. Worth the drive, every time. My only single small suggestion is an espresso machine. Oh, and the bathrooms? Well 1st time here... I'm a foodie so this was a must. The warmth and greetings entering we're not existent. I mean, 2 young ladies who saw us walked away. 'We weren't from around there' kinda feel. Awkward. Ordered a danish & cream puff. (Also cheese to go). I'm not a danish lover..too flaky crunchy bready..etc. BUT. WHAT JUST HAPPENED? This was by far the absolute best bite of cheese danish that ever existed. Soft perfectly baked dough & crust. The cream in the middle was off the hook. Like Iron Chef perfection. I have to replicate that. It wasn't too sweet, it was creamy &outstanding. Ok..I went back to order 2 more cheese danish with apricot to go. I made sure they were the same filling. They didn't last the road trip. Y'all this was quality. 10 stars for food. 1 for service. Smile and say hello please... We try and visit The Pie Safe as often as we are able, it is such a wonderful place! The whole experience from the exterior view, to the beautiful and charming interior, the exceptional food, service, and overall atmosphere is amazing. The Exterior: The exterior of the building has been beautifully restored, previously the building was surrounded by gravel all the way up to the door, the windows of this poor building were mostly boarded up with paint chipping off. Now, however, the brickwork has been cleaned beautifully, the boards in the windows replaced with glass providing a lovely view for both those outside and in. The gravel in the lot replaced with concrete including an accessibility ramp (that is always plowed in the winter thanks to the exceptional service here). The Interior: Walking into The Pie Safe is simply lovely. You are immediately met with the smells of delicious baked goods, savory sandwiches, and all things wonderful. Even at the busiest times, the atmosphere is calm and not overly loud. The gift shop has handmade items that can fulfill any of your gifting needs (or your own desires). Service: The service at the pie safe is exception and prompt. The food flies out of the kitchen, it feels like a miracle with how fast the food comes out. I promise, you will be surprised! Food: Oh yes, the food, it is so amazing! I highly suggest the Margharita Pizza! The soups, the baked goods, and of course the cheese are all to die for! Taking a break from Moms' Weekend at WSU and discovered a country treasure! My Brie and caramelized onion grilled cheese sandwich, on homemade sourdough bread with housemade cheese I might add, was outstanding. My son's meal was equally delicious, ending with a lovely tart cherry pie. We'll be back! read more

Sooo disappointed! Came here based on reviews and man was it the complete opposite. Where do I start? The service was terrible! No personality and they act like you're an inconvenience. We ordered two pizzas, one cheese, one pepperoni and 2 cups of potato soup. If you like the taste of burnt popcorn this is your pizza! Literally it just tasted like one big piece of burnt popcorn, the crust burnt to a crisp. The cheese was absolutely terrible and the soup had no taste! The Pie Safe is the best bakery in Deary. Their cinnamon roles and cream puffs are to die for and the sandwiches are so fresh and top notch. They use the cheese that they make right there and everything is clean and worth the visit. read more

An artisan bakery, sandwiches, pizza and ice cream in a beautifully restored building on Deary's Main Street. Many food items are garden fresh with ice cream and cheese from the Brush Creek Creamery in the same building. Bakery items and pizza are all hand made on the premises. Tried the classic margherita pizza, blue cheese wedge salad and pecan pie with ice cream. Everything was so fresh it tasted like 10 minutes from the garden. Owners said they plan to do family style dinners during the week. We will be returning often. read more

I had to be in Deary for work, and a local recommended this place. Well, I was thinking it had to be the best place in town because it's the only place in town. Turns out it's amazing. Completely on par with and maybe even better than what you can get in big cities (like Moscow hahaha). You can tell everything is homemade because of how happy it makes you feel to eat it :) They make an eggs Benedict like you've never had before. I couldn't help myself and got a cinnamon roll, too! While you're there, you should take some time to marvel at the hand-made canoes and tapestries. read more

Drove through a snowstorm today to get biscuits and gravy at the Pie Safe. We weren't disappointed. The gravy had tons of super chunky sausage. Awesome! But wait it gets better the biscuits were flakey in the middle and crunchy on the outside!!! Spectacular is all I can say. Then they handed us a heaping cup of fresh and I mean fresh fruit!! Definitely going back on another Saturday for biscuits and gravy preferably not in a snowstorm!! read more

This place is out of this world. There lattes are the best in town, maybe in Idaho. They go great with a cheesy breakfast burrito stuffed with eggs and then a mouth watering sauce to fill in the cracks. The service feels like you are in some fancy restaurant in Hawaii. Staff is extremely friendly and is there to help you whatever your needs are. Also don't forget about there special dinners every month! They are absolutely fabulous. Wonderful huckleberry ice cream & incredible cheese made in house. We had the award winning Brie and a morel mushroom cheese. The artist weaving in the back area was charming & created lovely pieces. Special-ordered a pecan pie for my wife's birthday. Truly awesome. I was attempting to figure out the dynamics of the quality, which is superlative, and the fit in the logging community of Deary. I'm a world traveler and have pretty refined taste. My conclusion is this place is likely an offshoot of Mennonites living in the area, judging by the women in the kitchen, and a lack of alcohol on the menu. Otherwise it would be in Moscow. This place is a little piece of Heaven on earth. I went for the first time this past May and have been there four times since then. It is a bit of a drive into the country, but worth every mile! Immediately upon walking inside, I felt totally at ease; almost as though I had walked into the home of a dear friend. It's as though you've stepped back into a simpler, sweeter time. The normal sprint of our lives seems to slow to a lovely, steady stroll. There is hardly any cell service in Deary, which aids in allowing you to unplug from life and just rest. They have done a beautiful job preserving the history of the building from floor to ceiling. The staff is incredibly hospitable and kind. Sonia, Anna and Catherine are a few of the wonderful women working there that I have had the pleasure of getting to know. The food is UNBELIEVABLE. I have tried all but two of the sandwiches on their menu and am never disappointed. Most sandwiches come with one of their house-made cheeses; my favorite thus far is their Montasio. Their pastries and desserts are also excellent, ranging from pumpkin danishes and chocolate croissants to lemon tarts and cream puffs. On top of all of these delicious things, they also have a Soup of the Day which is, hands down, my favorite thing to get there! I have had Lemongrass Chicken Soup, Beef and Barley, Cream of Leek and Broccoli Cheddar - and man, I'd pay a pretty penny to have just another spoonful of any of them. Don't forget to pick up some award-winning cheese to bring home and share with your family - their Marinated Labneh is fantastic. I can't recommend this place enough - 5 stars seems like a cheap mark to give such an outstanding establishment. read more

Very good pizza from their wood burning oven. The margherita did have a drizzle of balsamic vinegar, which I typically don't care for, but it actually was pretty good on this one. Despite the fact that the place was pretty busy, we got our food quickly. Don't think this would be a good choice for a vegan, but a fair selection for vegetarians. I thought the staff was pleasant and that the restaurant was well designed and clean. Definitely will be going back again. read more
