We arrived at the Red Rooster for breakfast around 9:30, we were seated at a 2 top, all other tables were occupied. The restaurant was noisy, as to be expected. Within minutes we were sipping on freshly brewed Coffee, then ordered. I chose their Chicken Fried Steak breakfast, with (2) OE Eggs. Crispy Hashbrowns; Homemade Bread lightly toasted and Homemade Jam. Every item was fresh, hot and as ordered. I could not finish the Hashbrowns as I was stuffed. Wait staff was great, attentive. So this is a little late and I want to apologize cause this place on my vacation was amazing and the people well just as amazing. So this place was in Enterprise, Eastern Part of Oregon. This is one of a couple places we stopped to eat at and well. I honestly can't say enough about this town, people and food. Food exactly how you ordered it. My eggs, Hash-browns and sausage were absolutely delicious. The lighting was good as we walked through and pretty quiet. The portion of the food were very good and the people well. I can't say enough on their hospitality. I will say this I'm going back soon. So if you're on vacation there or just driving through and looking for a good verity and good food. What a find! First, I'm a coffee snob and let me tell you...this is the best coffee I've had at a casual breakfast/lunch spot. For breakfast they make their own homemade hash browns, not from frozen packages. Eggs over medium were cooked perfectly and they make their own bread and jam for their toast. My husband ordered a special, a quesadilla with eggs, chorizo, beans, and cheese and said it was great! Lastly, the waitress was so friendly and the service not hurried, not slow. In town for a concert on a Saturday and trying to get seated in the small handful of restaurants in Joseph can be a pain so we headed up to enterprise in hopes of a shorter wait. Red rooster had a few seats outside and hasty service. Not sure why this place wasn't more packed cause the server was super attentive and the food was even better. Don't come to this restaurant with "convienence" on your mind. You won't find the traditional soda pops, free refills, basic breakfast combinations, or the ability to pay with a credit card. What you will find is a hearty meal. Homemade crusty breads and healthy organic choices. As a family who is new in town, we were looking for a place to eat breakfast before we unloaded the truck. My family tends to be "traditionalists" in the sense they like what they were use too, and this wasn't it, but we all found the food to be quite good. Our choices included waffles with strawberries and eggs, Johnny Cakes, The Robbie (a sausage egg and cheese breakfast sandwich on an English muffin) with country potatoes, pancakes, and a BLTA that came with soup or salad. And lemonade. The interior of the restaurant was decorated with "county" touches. Various chicken decorations and a sliding barn door. This little Haven is not to be missed when driving through Enterprise.MAKE SURE TO BRING CASH! Red Rooster is down home cookin' that fills the belly and makes your day start off the right way. We ate here two times during our stay in Eastern Oregon. Our party of two enjoyed one Johnny cake and strawberry brioche french toast the first visit and the asparagus quiche and savory scramble the second time. The Johnny cakes are gluten free and ginormous!!! They measure approximately 10-11" round and about 3/4" thick, filled with bacon and cheddar they were delightful! I was told the French toast was good but the bread didn't seem like a true brioche, it was too fluffy and soft. The French toast was topped with strawberry compote and whipped cream, served with eggs and bacon. The asparagus quiche I heard was delicious and prepared well, the portion was on the small side. The savory scramble was a wonderful mix of pesto, bacon, sauteed spinach, red onion and shaved Parmesan on top served with country potatoes and fruit. The service was phenomenal, the staff was pleasant and accommodating. The dining area is decorated very well and is neat and tidy, the bathroom was just as quaint and clean. My only qualm was the only form of payment they accept is cash. If you didn't have cash there was an ATM available with a steep fee of $2.50 per transaction. It seems like a Square system would benefit everybody in this situation. read more

Sitting just off the main highway in Enterprise, this diner-restaurant offers some great food in Wallowa County. Friendly servers chat with locals and tourists alike, while, in the winter, the south windows fill the space with refreshing sunshine. The eggs benedict was spectacular, with a great hollandaise sauce on top of quality ingredients. I'd pass on the biscuits and gravy - the consistency was fine, but the gravy had an odd coconut milk-like flavor to it that I wasn't a fan of. The potatoes were flat-out mushy, but I have a bias in favor of crispy potatoes. A nice place with nice people, and worth a stop. read more

This small town cafe is a hidden jewel, literally hidden off the main highway on the way to Wallowa Lake. Even though they are located on Main St. their location is just off the highway that runs north to the town of Joseph and the lake. Having spent two days at the lake I can say with confidence that Red Rooster is the best cafe in the Wallowa Lake area, if not all of Northeastern Oregon. The first thing you notice is the clever decor which is retro country cafe but not overdone. The second thing you notice is the spotless cleanliness of the restaurant, up to and including the restrooms. It is an all female staff which was explained to me to be a family owned operation with most of the women related to one another. It opened in August of 2012 after the women "spent the summer cleaning, painting and decorating." The breakfast menu is a delight of traditional and unique dishes with two types of eggs Benedict, pancakes, quiche and others. They also feature breakfast specials each day. The service was friendly and efficient but without the chain restaurant feel. Attention to detail was obvious including slicing the fresh strawberries in the excellent presentation of a side dish of fresh fruit. Prices for breakfast run from $6 to $10 and are a good value. If you're in the Wallowa Lake region don't miss this "hidden jewel" on Main St. In Enterprise. read more
