It's a true taste of Clarksville, exceptional enough to be included in the Texas Monthly Best of TX BBQ listings. You can't go wrong here with the plate lunches, served hot daily Wednesdays through Fridays. We were here on Tuesday, so we ordered single meat plates that came with a generous portion of smoked meat of your choice, homemade mayonnaise potato salad, Cole slaw, pinto beans, and two slices of ethereally soft white bread to soak up every delicious drop of aside and meat. I had the pork plate, which was a perfect lunch portion of tender, moist, smoky pork butt in thin slices and pulled shreds, swimming in a sweet vinegary sauce. It reminded me of Carolina barbecue, but without the mustard. My husband had the sliced brisket plate, which he enjoyed. The brisket was sliced thin and served hot, with the same tangy sauce and sides. We both cleaned our plates. The restaurant features enough tables to set a good after-church crowd, stocked with pepper vinegar and hot sauce to spice it up - if you dare! The ambiance is homey and family, with several memorials dedicated to "BBQ Man" George Coleman, deliver our master who passed in 2011. 5 Soul of East Texas BBQ stars

Naamans BBQ is the definition of "so close, yet so far." First off, credit where it's due--the…read moreservice was great, the place was clean, and walking in smelled like a BBQ candle made by angels. The outdoor area was awesome for the kids to play, and being in a plaza with other shops makes it an easy family stop. Now for the food plot twist. I ordered the pulled pork, ribs, and chicken. The chicken showed up ready to represent the whole team--tender, smoky, and honestly the MVP of the tray. The pulled pork, however, tasted like it had been placed into the warming tray first thing that morning and was still serving overtime by the time I got there. The ribs looked like competition BBQ, but flavor-wise they mainly introduced me to black pepper and then left the conversation. Sides review: the twice baked potatoes were seasoned well and definitely pulled their weight. The mac and cheese was okay--nothing offensive, nothing life-changing, just there for moral support. Overall, this place has a lot going for it: great service, family-friendly setup, clean atmosphere, and some real potential. But the BBQ was more of a split decision than a knockout.

The ribs had a unique, slightly crystallized crust that worked well and added a nice texture. The meat beans were just okay, but the green beans were very good and clearly well seasoned. Their BBQ sauce was excellent and complemented the meats without overpowering them. We also had the Caesar salad with smoked chicken, and that was a pleasant surprise. The chicken was awesome; very juicy and full of smoke flavor. Overall, solid food with some real standouts, especially the brisket and smoked chicken. Worth the stop.
