Being childless, my two dogs ARE my kids. Doggy boutiques are like my Carters or Toys 'R Us. I love finding a great dog store that was designed by someone that loves his/her dog as much as I do because you can be sure that the products they carry are quality and going to be the best out there. First off, I'll say that some of the items are way too rich for my blood. I mean, I wouldn't spend $39 for a sweater for myself let alone my dog, but I know there are people out there that would. (Erin L. hit it on the head when she said Paris Hilton-ish..Paris could afford that stuff.) They did have a great selection of sale leashes and dog collars for $5. I found a great pink studded collar on the sale rack but it looked a little small to fit my dog. The homemade dog treats were what brought us here and they didn't disappoint. They had a big selection and I didn't think that the prices were unreasonable. You could get a medium/large sized dog biscuit per piece (between $1.50-4 each) or you can buy per pound for the smaller treats. We ended up with a 1/2 pound of some yogurt covered treats and I believe it cost about $6. The dogs love them already and I feel good knowing that I'm giving them quality, fresh treats with no worries of a pending recall. We also ended up buying a few miscellaneous items: a doggy toothbrush, a giant bone, and this stuff in a red bottle called Pet Corrector. I'd read about the pet corrector online before and was happy to see they had it. My yorkie can be quite monstrous at times, completely disregarding any commands. We've tried clicker training, positive reinforcement, obedience classes and nothing has helped. Miraculously, in the two days we've been using it, he's actually started listening. He hates the sound of it, therefore does anything to avoid having to hear it. We're already planning a trip back to Chew on This to get the bigger bottle. I can't say enough good about this product and am really glad that I was able to finally get my hands on some of it. The service was equally as great as the selection. I was given a $5 coupon to bring back next time I come in since I was a new customer. They also signed me up for their email and mailing list so I can be alerted of any new sales. This is a must visit for all dog owners who care about getting the best of the best products for the furriest member of the family. read more

We happened upon this place during our tour thru the downtown Frankfort area. What a fantastic place! We were surprised to see the size of the shop in this building. They have a bunch of dog and cat items. It appeared to be mostly a dog store with many chew toys, treats, and foods. They had many unique food items. Not a place you will get a huge selection of foods but foods with great quality. There were many little cookie treats and it appears they do even more baked goods upon request. We purchased a dog harness, a couple teeth cleaning toys, rubber chew ball, and a couple pieces of antlers. Yes the place is not a bargain but it is a great location with a great variety. I am not personally a dog owner but I have lots of friends who are more fond of their dogs than their family. (And knowing their families, this might not be misplaced affection.) I have come here for gifts for friends and for the office staff at my old school. The baked dog goodies are big hits at Christmastime and since they are consumable and all natural, everyone seems to readily accept them. Last year while I was there, they even had take your dog's picture with Santa. Not my thing, but the dog owners seemed to love it. Perfect. Quaint atmosphere in downtown Frankfort with free on street parking. (no that's not thunder you're hearing....there's a bowling alley overhead!). Wonderful selection of top of the line kibble, canned, frozen raw, treats, toys, collars and leashes and much more. All the best brands that you can't find at the grocery stores or pet store warehouses. If they don't have it, they'll special order it. They have a gal who can bake your furkid a birthday cake, plus a bakery case brimming with homemade dog treats. Real attention to the products they sell and obvious love for their business makes this place a local gem that's a joy to patronize. You can bring the pupster in to pick out a treat, and if things get too exciting for him/her, there's poop bags curbside right out the door. read more

Rarely can you find owners and employees with such a passion for their business that extends to quality products AND education. I think that is what sets apart Chew on This from its competitors. The staff lets you wander or can offer full consultations to work with you and your pet for optimum health recommendations. Sure, it's great to have a beautiful collar and a homemade treat now and again but it is really hard to find knowledgeable staff at any big box pet store. In fact, while I was there, an employee of one of those stores was there buying HER food and recommending grooming products to a fellow shopper. That says a lot! Cute little dog store in Frankfort. Brought my dog in, and the employees were very nice, and gave my dog some treats. I bought a new harness, some chew sticks, and a Blackhawks bandana. You're first time shopping there, they give you a nice little welcome bag with some coupons and sample treats/foods which was nice. I cannot say enough good things about this local gem. They have an amazing selection of food (including samples of most of the brands they carry), treats, toys, and other dog-related items, all at completely reasonable prices. You can tell the owners are very choosy about the items they choose to sell, and everything we have purchased is very high quality. You won't find chemical-laden chews from China here! The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgable (shout out to our favorite girl, Ileana!) and will special order food or toys at your request. Chew on this Barkery is the only shop I will go for my children (Bichon Frise' Dog and Cat). Going to other major Pet stores of which I won't mention all their names, I am tired of purchasing toys there that last one day. We'll go there for cat litter and that's it. CHEW ON THIS BARKERY we go for everything else. Their food is high quality food and what does that mean LONGER LIFE for your loving pets. Treats for your beloved pets, no problem. They have tons of varieties and the staff can assist you with what product is best for your pet. Bones, chewy treats, hard treats all are in a wide variety. Our cat is 17 years old so more finicky on toys, he doesn't like the major Pet Store toys for the amount of catnip in the toys is minimal but the toys here he loves for their very good quality and high in catnip and he will roll around them like a little kitten then sleep on them. Amazing for a 17 year old; kudos to Chew on this Bakery. Their toys are excellent quality and last years. When I take out Christmas decorations theres the dog toys to enjoy for the Holiday; yes they lasted from prior Holiday! Everyday toys have lasted so amazingly for 2 years and counting! I won't even look for a toy anywhere else. Also, collars, leashes you will not find anywhere else that will have such a wide selection of various kinds and sizes. If they don't have it; they'll order it and you don't have to wait forever. The quality of the leashes and collars you'll find are far better quality than anywhere else. Now to speak on the owner and staff at the shop, I have to say STUPENDOUS! They all now their products that they sell. Not sure what type of food to get your dog or cat; no problem they'll direct you to the right kind based on your breed and health of dog. Lastly all I can say is if you love your pet then give it the best. Don't do the major pet stores that don't sell high quality food (if they have any kind of meal in it, you really don't want to know what that it is for you would be grossed out); they say they do, but they don't and you'll realize that once you stop at Chew on this Barkery. Remember "YOU PAY FOR WHAT YOU GET"; don't waste your hard earned money on the crap at the major pet stores; give an extra few miles and stop at this shop. You can even bring your pet with you. This is a store that really cares about pets in an extreme manner and I am devoted to them and always will. Oh, and I haven't mentioned their bakery section for treats for your pets; even birthday cakes can be ordered. I can go on and on about this wonderful place and when we bring our dog with the minute she gets out of the car she knows where she is and gets excited just as I do for I can't wait to see what new items will be there and there are always new things and poor hubby's wallet starts to quiver. I have been shopping here for years and I have never had a bad thing to say about it until now. I went in looking for a type of muzzle for my dog. Before we rescued her she was used in dog fights and she's very nervous around other dogs. Both the vet and the groomer say she is completely fine around other dogs once she has a muzzle on so we thought we would try it at home. However when I asked if they sold any, the girl got very snobby and proceeded to tell me that they do not sell "those" types of products since they are cruel.
