In December of 2012 I was invited to interview with a company in Half Moon Bay called Northern Energy, (now run by Amerigas). The day of the interview I was offered the job. I spent the next month doing background and pre-employment screening. After this was complete I was given the green light to relocate to the bay area. After completing my physical and some more paperwork I was given a start day of Feb 4th. On January 31st I received a call from the company manager that they had decided not to fill the position. What a life changing event due to the fact the company knew I was relocating from San Diego before making the job offer. Now I'm unemployed, 500 miles from home, and with no money to eat or live on. Not even gas money to get home and I'm days away from living in my car. The whole month of January I was told by Roman, the company manager, "Don't worry" "Hang in there, it won't be long". Then I was totally left hanging. I just thought the community should know the type of business practices administered by this company. You don't do this to people!!! The result was a perfect paint match, a cost slightly under budget and a surprisingly fast repair with a bonus inside/outside car wash. Underneath my car was a puddle, and I saw fluid some dripping from my car itself. I wasn't sure if the dripping was from a splash of driving through the puddle, but it persisted. Luckily at about the same time one of the guys from Palo Alto Auto Care walked by and told me my car was leaking coolant, and it would not be safe to drive. The dripping did not stop - it was definitely my car... yikes! Since his shop was behind the gas station, he offered to take a look to see the source of the leak. No conditions, it was more of a friendly offer. They couldn't view the problem by opening the hood, so they spent more time to raise up the car to better examine it. The reservoir had a crack, but he suspected the root cause was 90% likely from another part. Luckily both could be ordered and worked on that day. A few hours later my car was back in working order. While my wallet was lighter (and I didn't really have an opportunity to shop around), the price for parts/labor seemed reasonable at least compared to what I know I would have been charged from a dealer shop. I walked out more feeling "lucky in being unlucky." The guys there really saved my bacon - had I drove off disaster could have ensued, or at least paying for an expensive towing and worse repair from damage. Even though car repair is their business and it makes sense they would notice problems, I feel more like they were good Samaritans. (quite professional good samaritans no less!)
