Shell In Glendale - This is what the car looks like 15 minutes after washing.

Shell In Glendale

I've been using this car wash for two years, and everything had been fine until today. As usual, I…read morepaid the maximum amount -- $15 for the Ultimate Wash -- because it's important to me to get multiple wash cycles. I had barely driven inside when, after the first soap application (which had almost no foam) and a quick rinse, the machine displayed the "GO" sign, indicating that I should exit. I was very surprised and assumed it was a mistake. I pulled out, parked, and went to speak with the employee who had given me the receipt (this time I had to pay at the register because the machine wasn't accepting credit cards). I explained the issue to the cashier. He tried to assure me that everything was working as it should, but I insisted, and he said he would check the cameras. A few minutes later, he returned and said he hadn't noticed anything unusual -- in his opinion, everything was normal. I pointed out that there were fewer wash cycles than usual, that I paid $15 for the top-tier service, but in reality received not even the basic wash -- but a poor-quality version of it. I asked why I hadn't been warned that the wash might not be operating properly, since I wouldn't have chosen the highest-priced option otherwise. He responded that what I choose is up to me. Still confused by the situation, I once again explained exactly what had gone wrong. He asked how long I had been using this car wash. I said about two years. He replied that a lot has changed in two years -- the soap is different, the cycles are different. I immediately responded that I had used this same car wash just a month ago, and everything was fine. He said that he believed everything had worked properly this time as well. At that point, I realized there was no point in continuing the conversation. He didn't seem interested in listening and kept repeating what sounded like a memorized statement about how everything was fine. I turned around and left while he was again insisting that nothing was wrong. I did not receive a refund. I did not receive an apology. I did not receive any acknowledgment of the issue. I will not be returning to this car wash. For management: the employee who assisted me was a man in his 50s.

So I got a car wash I brought my receipt inside after and I was told it was ok that I get the 5¢…read moreoff the gas or whatever the deal is because now I wanted to pump gas, I pay for the gas with the male tall man and then he's checking my receipt in detail and he mentions the time I paid for the wash is 2:52 pm, I said yes I went thru and then I was drying my car before I came to get gas I haven't left the gas station, it is 3:30pm as I write this now. It just happened. I was asking for manager information after 10 minutes after I paid of him trying to explain to me in his very broken English that I have to pay for gas and car wash at the same time. I mentioned to him that I didn't know that and if he could adjust it for me and he had said okay I paid and then he started with the annoyingly horrible explaining of that's not allowed. I asked for owner information or manager and he looked down for a lie in his brain to form and said "oh he's on vacation" and I said how convenient. I asked the girl next to him if she could give me owner information and she said no and then he started speaking to her in their native tongue right in front of me. I said can you not speak in a language you thinkkkkk I don't understand and she seemed like a scared trainee that was terrified of pissing him off. He's way bigger than her and she just went along with what he was saying after he decided to explain to her in their native tongue what he wants her to regurgitate to me. I walked out without saying a word grabbed my receipt and I've filled up my tank as I wrote this review. The disrespect of this place and (also the horrible quality car wash because they started using cheaper ingredients in the soap) is WHY this place has horrible reviews. Everything could be improved. New staff would be the starting point.

Shell Gas Station - My car after wash

This review is for Victor, the Russian Mercedes mechanic at this gas station…read more I am an owner of several vintage Mercedes cars. I have gone through four different mechanics in the last 15 years who specialize in Mercedes. My last mechanic was Jorge, from Mr. MB Motors in Tarzana, the legendary Master Guild Mercedes mechanic. When he retired, I decided to go local I chose Jack from Jack's Tri-Start Motors in Glendale, on San Fernando. Jack is a good guy, who absolutely knows his shit, even and especially on older Mercedes cars, and can diagnose problems instantaneously. However Jack is too expensive at $125 / hour. Case in point, for one of my newer Mercedes cars, the intake manifold developed a crack The entire manifold needed to be replaced with a new one. Jack diagnosed the problem, no joke, in less than one minute. His cost of labor was $500. So I happened to walk-in on Victor doing the same job on one of his customers' cars one day at Shell. He charged me $300 plus I supplied the parts. This is how I got introduced to Victor as a mechanic. Victor owns two vintage Mercedes diesel cars, as do I. I brought him my old 300d turbo diesel, and had him do a valve adjustment Right price, and service from a guy who owns the same car as you do and knows his shit, and is local, is the trifecta you need for your car. So now Victor does all my old Mercedes. The only thing about Victor's place is, he has only two stalls. One stall is dedicated for smog checks, which can come in at any time, thereby shifting his focus. And the other is for repairs. Almost all car repairs he does, have to be one-day jobs max. Because he can't be occupying his work stall for more than a full day with a repair. When I brought him my Mercedes c230 for the intake manifold, he stayed until 8pm that night just to finish the job, because he had another scheduled repair the next day Jobs that Victor has done for my Mercedes cars: -intake manifold swap -fuel filter/accumulator swap -coolant flush/exchange -brake fluid flush/exchange -valve adjustment -window regulator repair -oil changes, gasket replacements -brake jobs -suspension work: shocks, struts, springs Recommend you try him out for the little things that you don't want to take to your Mercedes Indy mech who will charge you $125 per hour on labor. You will get good quality, attention-to-detail work from a Mercedes pro. Payment: You don't pay him directly. He gives you an invoice, and you take it to the Shell counter (where you pay for gas). Thus, if you wanted to pay with credit card, you can do so, unlike indy shops which charge you More to pay with A card. What I do is, I go to Ralphs (which has a partnership with Shell gas station) and buy Shell gift cards with my credit card (earning points on my card) in the amount of the repair price. I pay for my car repair with Shell gift cards, thereby earning both points and discounts of 20 to 40 cents off per gallon (!) on my gas. After you pay for your repair, the gas station will also give you a free drive-through car wash as well. Bottom line: Victor is a good, experienced mechanic, who knows his way around 70's, 80's and 90's (and newer) Mercedes cars. I've seen him doing w116 300sd's, and 2016 E-class cars. He prefers to work on Mercedes, but will take and repair other cars as well. He is essentially a mini-indy shop, without the overhead shop owners pay. My previous guy, Jack, has to pay rent at his shop in Glendale, and passes on his costs to you in his hourly rate. Victor doesn't pay rent (not that I know), so his prices are much more reasonable at $75 per hour, but sometimes he will cut you a break on his prices as well.

Uneven wash, feels like only half the car gets cleaned…read more I typically prefer touchless car washes--especially since my vehicle has a ceramic coating. It's an easy way to maintain it without having to hand wash every time. That said, this one needs serious improvement. The biggest issue is how uneven the system is. The laser washer clearly favors the top and right side of the vehicle, which gets decent coverage. The left side, however, is only partially hit and not evenly addressed at all. You can visibly see the difference when the wash is done--one side looks clean, the other looks like it was semi-skipped. This imbalance carries through the entire cycle. The underbody blast, soap/clear coat application, and rinse all seem to prioritize the top and right side of vehicle. Even the dryers follow the same pattern--mostly hitting the top and right side while leaving the left side wet and streaky. For a fully automated system, consistency should be standard. Right now, it feels like you're paying for a partial wash instead of a full service. I like the convenience, and I want this to be a go-to spot, but until the coverage and drying are actually even, it's hard to justify coming back. If they fix it, this easily becomes a 4-5 star spot--but right now, it's not there.
