Our last full day in the area saw us enjoying brunch at Chestnut, where we enjoyed pimento cheese tater tots, Bloody Marys, and other delights. Overall, the experience was solid in the red-painted brick building on Biltmore Avenue. The dining area was nicely decorated with shimmering ceilings, and the bar was right across from the booth where we enjoyed our meal. Overall, our experience was solid. The Bloody Marys were pretty good with the garnish on top, while the pimento cheese tater tots were incredibly delightful and my favorite dish of our experience. The breakfast sandwich wasn't as good as I hoped as the croissant wasn't what I expected and was flaccid. But overall, we enjoyed our time there and the service was solid. read more

Last minute reservation here because the 6 pm was the only one available at 5 pm. I could tell it was a solid spot because the night was pretty full (Wednesday at the end of August) and the lack of reservations available. So we went for it. And it proved to be a great spot! I love this restaurant! I always have it in my top 3 recommendations for every out of town guest just to experience the lobster bisque. I even brave downtown parking and traffic just for a soup! I never have a bad experience nor an entree that wasn't really good. But I have to say that I will and do go out of my way for the lobster bisque. My husband, my parents, a couple of my friends and their son all went to brunch at Chestnut and had a wonderful time! Food: The food was so good! From plating to taste, Chestnut did not miss. Two of us got the chicken n' waffles, two of us got the eggs benedict on special that had steak, one got the smoked salmon toast and one got the shrimp po' boy. We would recommend any of these dishes to anyone who dines at Chestnut! I also loved the mimosa options- by the glass or pitcher! We really had an amazing brunch food & beverage experience here. Service: The service was fantastic from even before we arrived! I had to call to readjust our reservation and Chestnut was so kind and accommodating to my group. They were very patient with us and our timing while ordering and catching up. They brought the cutest high chair for my friends' son that was so appreciated by them. Service throughout was attentive and friendly. I also loved the servers' shirts, which I believe can be purchased through the restaurant. Ambiance: I loved the whole aesthetic of the resturant! Most recently, I visited for brunch the first time and, with several girlfriends all with different palates, I was able to try a variety of dishes. Wow. I can't say enough good things about the location and service and food. But I will try. First, the restaurant and bar is very stylish and clean. It's not a large area but they use it well for your comfort. Next, the menu is incredible and the food we ordered was excellent. We got the beet and apple bisque and were astonished at how good it tastes. We also got the eggs Benedict and loved the filet, chipotle seasoning and the bed of potatoes that was surprisingly different and good. Finally, our server Matt was the best. He was truly happy to tell us about the menu and make recommendations that were all correct. We went to brunch, so our next trip will be dinner. read more

Really more of a 4.5. I Stopped in for what i was hoping would be lunch that turned out to be Brunch, my fault for not checking first and for walking in based on jsut the eye-ball of the place. Brunch menu is horter and the typical 50/50 lunch bfast options. As i was in the lunch mood i went for the burger which was a good example of a high end burger. As a side i went with fries, but they were seasoned which i can do without. Beer options were good with lots of interesting local options. Service was prompt and attentive for the most part. for $35 for a burger and 2 beers I am looking for a little more interest in my dining experience. Overall good but I'd give a few other local spots that i chose this over a shot before coming back. read more

Have your parents take you here when they visit you. It's cozy and costly. The cinnamon roll in the photos is a lie. We came for that. They don't have it and won't have it. Chestnut is one of those places where you walk in and immediately feel like you should whisper, but then you notice everyone else is laughing and eating and very much alive, so you relax and decide you belong here after all. It was busy. Lively. The good kind of busy where you feel smug for having a reservation. We ordered the filet, the shrimp and grits, and the duck. The filet was perfect. The shrimp and grits were rich and comforting and absolutely uninterested in your cholesterol numbers. And then there was the duck. Little medallions of succulent goodness, cooked so precisely it bordered on witchcraft, lounging on a turnip puree that somehow convinced me turnips had been lying about themselves this whole time. The service was impeccable without being weird about it. No hovering. No disappearing acts. Just calm, competent humans who seemed genuinely invested in your happiness and continued survival. The menu is imaginative, everything is executed beautifully, and the whole place hums with that cozy, confident energy that says, "Yes, you are having a very good night." I really wanted to like this restaurant. But, the portions were small, and the prices were high. The buffalo oysters were creative but tasted like a Tabasco covered fried oyster. It was okay. The service is slow. For a fine dining restaurant, it lacked personality and felt like people were just going through the motions. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this place at this price point. A friend and I went to Chestnut yesterday, March 5, 2026 at 1 pm. We we seated promptly and with a warm welcome. Water was brought and our very friendly waiter came. Told us todas specials and took our appetizer order. Lobster bisque and pimento cheese tater tots. Both were divine. Lots of lobster in bisque and tots were amazing. We then ordered entrees both deciding on pesto Parmesan crusted salmon medium well. The presentation was great but my friends salmon was almost raw. The waiter came, saw the fish and immediately took it back without us having to say anything. He brought back her potatoes and green beans so she could nibble. When the fish was returned, a whole new plate by the way. It was perfect and we both loved the fish. For dessert, on the house, I got the maple blondie sundae and she got the banana pudding. A great meal at this downtown spot. Chestnut is a square room in a storefront on busy Biltmore Ave. There are roughly 30 tables and booths scattered throughout plus a 12 seat bar on the right. Decor is cool... wrought iron room dividers are set throughout and between the booths. The metal is adorned with small glass tiles which add a sense of privacy. Beautiful oversized glass light fixtures abound. Room volume is muted so conversation is easy without having to shout. Reservations honored to the minute. Service was crisp, accurate and efficient, with special instructions for the kitchen well accommodated. Lobster bisque was a tad disappointing. It was a little thin to my taste and could have been more bold. I love a thick and creamy bisque; and almost tangy. Maybe more sherry? This bisque was really good, but not a standout. I tried the schnitzel. Also tasty. Pounded pork is ensconsed in crumbled pretzels and fried golden brown. It's served atop spaetzle and pickled braised red cabbage. The pork is topped with mornay sauce. Cabbage was excellent, sweet and tangy. Spaetzle also excellent, flavored with chives and the perfect consistently - neither mushy nor crunchy but just right. The pork was just OK. A little thicker that schnitzel is usually prepared. And I think the cheese sauce takes away from the taste because it somewhat overpowers the pork. A delicious dish, just a few nits which are more about my personal preference. Also tried the filet. Prepared perfectly medium-well, the beef is fork-tender, juicy & perfectly seasoned. Excellent! Served with a dollop of creamy mashed potatoes. Yes! Lastly, tried apple crisp for dessert. An oval ramekin is filled with green apples, raisins, topped with butter/brown sugar/ground oatmeal crumbles and baked to a gooey-in-the-middle, crunchy-on-top treat. Amd it's topped with a scoop of cinnamon ice cream. This is one of my favorites and the prep here is excellent. Plenty of other choices on the menu. On a recent visit to celebrate my wife's birthday, we were seated in a quiet corner booth and enjoyed outstanding service over the course of a fabulous evening. We started with a tasty order of Pimento Cheese Tater Tots -- a delightfully flavorful appetizer with just enough spice to warm up our palates. For our entrees, I ordered an amazing Pistachio Crusted Salmon while my wife enjoyed a perfectly cooked Petite Filet. For dessert, we shared a decadent Chocolate Caramel Tart and an order of NY Style Cheesecake. Everything about the meal, from the presentation to the setting, was flawless. Chestnut has a full bar that serves up delicious cocktails, along with a healthy selection of mocktails and other N/A drinks. My Old Fashioned was perfect, and the glass of Chardonnay I ordered with dinner was the perfect complement to the meal. Parking is available throughout downtown -- we parked in the public deck at Biltmore Ave and Eagle St, just a block away. The tomato's were perfectly ripe. *Petite filet, my husband couldn't say enough about how perfect his meal was. *Linguini and crab was ok.
