Perfectly acceptable diner food. Have been eating there since I was little. Open relatively late too for that area.

I love a good diner that serves food fit for its theme. That is fries, burgers, omelettes and other standard American diner and breakfast fare. I've eaten here 5 times now and can only recommend breakfast as their only good effort. They have way too many menu items so they don't do any of them well - if it sounds exotic don't order it as it will be terrible. Observing the patrons I noted it is golden age hair set so their food is seasoned for bland. I recommend Driving 5 miles north and go to "The After" if you want a good diner in the area that does diner food well (no credit card though). read more

Friendly waitress and manager. My food was undercooked, sent back and they just threw same food back in fryer. Kids food was normal nj diner food. It was closing time also and kitchen staff actually came out of kitchen, sat in booth across from us and stared at us until we left. Will not go back!!! read more

Went to the diner this evening with my family. I ordered a salad with dressing on the side. When I received my salad, they didn't bring my dressing. I kindly asked the waitress for the side of dressing that was missing. She looked at me like I was crazy and said "well, I didn't write on the ticket that the salad was dry so there is dressing in it." Whelp, there was no dressing. Finally, she agreed to get more some dressing and stood there mumbling under her breath about all of the horrible customers, myself included. And then when she came to the table with the dressing she said, well, he must have put it on light. Whelp, he didn't put it on at all. But she refused to admit I was right. And there should not be so much drama over some oil and vinegar dressing! I was there with my kids and was too nervous to even ask her for extra napkins to help with all the syrup and sticky fingers. I figured that would have put her over the edge. Disappointing the service was so horrible. I just wanted a nice dinner out with my kids, which we don't do often and it sucks not having someone nice and accommodating as a waiter/waitress. read more

Chester Diner is our favorite diner in the area. Parking is easy and plentiful. Service is fast and receptive. Special dining requests are granted and seating is abundant. Waiters and waitresses are pleasant and knowledgeable. Like to substitute one item or ingredient for another? No problem. Feeling cold or hot in your assigned seat? They will move you to a more suitable location. We live about 15 minutes away and we have closer diners but Chester is our favorite. We've eaten many selections from the menu and have never been disappointed. Meals are served hot and usually quite soon after your order. Free refills on soft drinks, water or tea. The food is better than many restaurants can offer. I simply do not understand some of the negative reviews. Don't let them keep you from sampling Chester Diner for yourself. Bon Appetit! read more

I live in Chester, so I've been to the Chester Diner quite a few times. It's a solid lunch and breakfast, but nothing special. Service is okay, and the decor is a bit dull. Usually, I order the western omlette with home fries for breakfast or lunch. The home fries here are fantastic. The omlettes here are good too, they are quite big with usually a big helping of onions, ham, peppers, or whatever you put in it. The sandwiches here are okay, and the fries here aren't great to be honest. I would recommend the Chester Diner for breakfast or lunch, but there are many better options in the area for dinner. They also have a fresh pastry selection on display. read more

Have been there several times in the past and was very good but this time NOT as expected. Waitress was quick to remove plates, quick give boxes for take home and gave the check (can I finish my meal before I get a check please), she forgot vegetables and food has been better. Just ate lunch at Chester DIner today. When we were first seated in a booth, we noticed all bugs and unkept window sill. We moved to another booth. While we were waiting for our food to arrive we saw ants climbing on the mirror. I told the waitress why we moved and about the ants. She said she would tell the mgr. Noone came to speak to us. When I went to pay the bill we told the hostess about our experience. She said let me tell the manager. He seemed annoyed and said do what you need to do when I SaId I Was going to rate my experiene. He took some money off our bill. Would have preferred eating in a clean diner. read more

Total disappointment. We were seeking out a hangover breakfast and happened to be passing this place so we stopped. The place is huge and had a decent crowd but plenty of open tables so we were feeling OK about it...should have yelped first. We got seated and waited 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged us and that was with plenty of 19yr old looking servers all hanging out pretty much directly in our view. They have one person come over and take your drink order, then your server...which seems like it would be needed for a place that's bumpin and efficient-why here idk. After we waited a bit longer with our untouched beverages (because we were close to walking out), our server came by and took our order. 2 Taylor ham egg and cheese sammages on rolls and a plate of disco fries. Food took about another 10 min then arrived. The sandwiches looked promising, they used thick cut Taylor ham...I've never had bland Taylor ham until today. They grilled the meat instead of griddling so it didn't get caramelized and crispy like it's supposed to, we honestly questioned if it was cooked enough. Just 2 blah sandwiches. The fries were decent but again slightly bland. Overall just not a good experience. Wouldn't come back here. read more

The food here is average diner food, not bad but not anything to get excited about. I have been going there about every 2 weeks on a regular basis for about 4 years with my mother because it is a good location to meet in between our homes. As an older person, she likes to sit and visit with a cup of coffee for a little while before ordering our food. We have gotten dirty looks (and one made a nasty comment) from a few of the waitresses there when I have asked them to come and take our order in about 15 mins. The last time we went, our waitress did not ask us if she could start us off with a drink, she just rushed by us. When she did come by, we ordered our coffee. I eventually had to go up to her and ask for it and she gave me a look and brought it after about 5 minutes. As she was the waitress for the neighboring tables, we could hear her ask if they would like a drink and she was very friendly with them. I finally had to flag her down to let her know we were ready to order. She was stone faced when dealing with us and brought the food when it was ready but never came back to check on us or ask if we wanted more coffee. My mom and I take turns treating for lunch and when she went to pay, the hostess who takes the money, did not come over and did not ask how our lunch was so my mom just left her money on the counter. Because of the terrible service, I did not leave a tip (and we always left a larger one because we did sit and chat) and we will not go back to the Chester Diner, EVER! I would rather drive to my mothers area than to have to deal with some of the crotchety waitresses that are employed there. Been here twice, good food, large portions, great service

Used to be much much better, not sure what's happened over the last few months but won't be going back. Ordered takeout, hamburger was seriously undercooked, called and they basically said sorry like oh, it happens. The staff has a "we don't care" attitude from the girl at the register to the wait staff who seem old and tired. It was convenient to eat in town, but there are other places for breakfast and lunch, and if I have to drive elsewhere for a hamburger or quick dinner, I'll happily do so. This was the last straw. My boyfriend and I pulled into the diner tonight for a late dinner and we were trailering a boat on the back of his truck. He was dropping me off in the front before going to park in the back. Before i could even get out of the car, the manager(?) came storming into the vestibule and was yelling at us and pointing at us to leave. He was pointing at us and then at a paper as if to say he was going to write down our license plate (even though we did nothing wrong). He continued to point at us and motion for us to leave and then mockingly waved goodbye when we began pulling out of the parking lot. It's the "Chester Diner," what more can I say. To anyone who grew up in the Chester/Mendham/Flanders/Long Valley Area in the past 15 years, this place was a mecca. It is our go-to place when we can't decide what exactly we want...We have been customers for over 20 years, since moving into the area...Most of my friends prefer it to all of the diners in the area of Bedminster and the limited fancy resturant menues in our area...This being said, we do love NJ and its diner filled towns...Chester Diner does what diners R meant to do, feed hungry people anything they desire at late or early hours...We love you and those that don't, don't...Their loss... read more

we stopped in for a quick lunch yesterday. was anything but! took 15 minutes for someone to come even get our drinks, we told him we were ready to order, he told us he doesn't take orders, he tells a waitress we are ready and she says we have to wait... she had other tables... she had 2 other tables. we ordered and 30 minutes later our grilled chicken sandwiches came out. I guess they had to slaughter the chickens first. the fries that came with it were very bland, the chicken was dry and they did not come with any condiment for them, no mayo, honey mustard, bbq, nothing We asked for our check and it tok her 10 minutes to bring it to us, though she was refilling others drinks, lucky them, we never got our refilled. needless to say we will never go back. read more
