Found this restaurant while walking around and it was a find. My wife and I dined there last night and were very pleased with the food and the service. Our waitress Aubrey told us that they were having "customer appreciation" month, and two of the appetizers were on sale for $5. So we went for the pizzalle (sp?)... a small, flatbread pizza. It was great... a bit spicy and very fresh. For our main course, my wife had the Pappardelle Bolognese. It was cooked perfectly. I had the Spinach and Roasted Garlic Tortolini. Delicious! The wine list was good, and my wife reported that the pomegranate martini was wonderful. We will be back! read more

We have been coming to Chesca's for years. The service and food are always excellent! The only downfall is that they don't take reservations for parties less than 6 and so on a busy night the wait can be upwards to an hour. The menu is varied and includes local fresh ingredients. On this recent visit, I had the lobster ravioli with seared sea scallops-- very good. I especially loved the addition of hazelnuts to the sauce. I can't wait to come back! read more

Started with carpaccio, heirloom tomatoes, and mussels in coconut milk. All 3 were perfect. Main course were lobster ravioli and lobster risotto. Both were excellent! The lobster was cooked perfect as was the scallops that accompanied the ravioli. Service was spot on. Sat on the porch which was a pleasure. Overall this place is phenomenal! read more

In addition to the food, the service was fantastic, especially considering we apologetically strolled in under-dressed a half hour before close. Chesca's is one of our go to restaurants in Edgartown. However, Do NOT go if the weather is hot or humid. The air conditioning is very weak and you will be drenched in sweat. Also, the menus posted outside the door and on the wall by the street are very old and do not match the items actually served. This was the case since the start of the 2018 season. Nevertheless it is very pleasant to sit outside in a rocking chair with a glass of wine while waiting for your table. read more

One of our favorite restaurants on the Vineyard Last night was our third visit this season My son ordered a medium rare steak ,which when presented was well done How was this handled? Our waitress notified the manager and when the replacement perfectly cooked steak was delivered the manager came over and apologized and took the meal off the bill. I love this restaurant. I do not love the yuppie patrons. Chesca's serves real, fresh, and delectable meals! For the past 3 years, my partner and I have enjoyed the opportunity of dining here. To be honest, our first year wasn't that great. We had to sit on tiny cushions (like a small couch) because they did not have our reservation set up accordingly. We forgave them and came back the next two years. The staff, I have noticed, changes every year. But, they are all wonderful, helpful, knowledgeable, and a great wait staff. I never have to ask for anything. But, if I do want a little extra of this or that, they are happy to oblige without question. I've had the halibut, the lobster risotto, lobster bisque, hot gorgonzola dip with pancetta and shrimp, lobster ravioli and sea scallops, and the chicken marsala. The only thing I really did not like was the chicken marsala; it wasn't spicy enough. We will continue to eat here ever year. My only suggestion would be to ALWAYS have a seasonal seafood dish during the Summer (Jun-Sept.). read more

Let me start by saying that my review rating is NOT predicated upon the dining experience. When we ate here last year, it was fantastic. However ... We (my family of 22 people) and I are not happy with Chesca's. We come to the Vineyard every year for the 4th of July. We called this year with over four weeks notice and informed them of the size of our party and our desire for specific dates and times for dinner. With more than a month's notice, we were told that they will not accept reservations. This was counter to past experiences, so we called several more times because we were not sure we had gotten the correct advice. We NEVER received a call back despite several phone calls and voicemails/messages. Today, we stopped in at the hostess station personally and asked them how a particular date this week was looking on their schedule, but were informed that they are fully booked for the entire week. Apparently, they DO take reservations and don't give a $%@# about their large parties. They have reservations confirmed for each night this week and no availability to accommodate a large party. I can only conclude that they have SOOOOO much business, that they can afford to turn away a large check for a night. We will NEVER return to this restaurant and will do everything that we can to inform others to avoid this restaurant, not because of their food, but because of their disregard for the customer. This complete disregard for the customer and an inability to at least provide us with the courtesy of a return call and/or the correct advice and information about their reservation guidelines means that they have lost the business of at least three generations of a customer. It's very, very sad. We'll also be sure to share this input with the staff at the Winnetu, and encourage their staff not to send any business to the doors of Chesca's. read more

My family and I have been going to Martha's Vineyard for almost 20 years, and last night was the first time we ate at Chesca's. And it will be the last. We called for a reservation a few weeks in advance and they only had availability for our table of 5 at 8:30pm. We arrived early, but were not seated until about 8:45. Tired and starving, we were looking forward to a good meal. The bread was good, but that was the only pleasant experience we had at the restaurant. The service was TERRIBLE. We ordered only a few minutes after we sat down, and did not receive our main course until 9:45! People who sat down after us were eating dinner before us. We had to ask the waiter where are food was, and he told us it would be out momentarily with no apologies. Fifteen minutes later, the hostess came over and said the food would be right out, again with no apologies. We ate our meal, which was decent, and left immediately after receiving our check. Ate here late after a movie. It is upscale and a little pricey but was well worth it! The service was impeccable and the bus boys filled your glass every time you drank! This review is about a year late as I visited in early summer 2012. It was a birthday celebration, so I had called ahead to make reservations and even asked the people whom we were staying with in Oaks Bluff for good restaurant recommendations. Chesca's ended up being nothing very special, the seafood was fresh but a little pricey; and looking back I don't recall any dish that was particularly smashing. It was just a good restaurant, priced moderately high, with good customer service but we were underwhelmed given the reviews we had read prior to visiting and the local recommendations we were given. If we go back to Martha's Vineyard, we don't intend to visit again. read more

Elegant yet casual cozy wine bar type dining. Thurs night 7:50pm there was a 1h 15m wait. We strolled around town and came back early 8:40pm and were seated right away. The Food was good for the island (top 5) but probably would not frequent in NYC as there are so many more choices. The best part of the meal was the fresh homemade bread and white bean with garlic dip (tasted like fresh hummous). Started with the clam chowder, eggplant stuffed with ricotta, crab and shrimp cakes. Mains we had the 1. halibut with white bean, spinach, roasted heirloom tomatoes in fish broth, 2. salmon with chive mashed potatoes and summer squash, 3. parpardelle bolognese. Great location in Edgartown. I love waiting outside on the white rocking chairs. The food is pricey but tasty, although I wasn't a huge fan of the lobster bisque, everything else was great. The homemade bread in the basket was a plus. Definitely get dessert here! read more

Wish there was a 4.5 option for this one. Cute, cozy place. For such a really nice restaurant, with great food & service and high pricing, our group was surprised the napkins were paper and the tablecloth a plastic sort of material. The bibb lettuce & asian pear salad was real good (this would be a staple in my diet if I lived here!) and the sole picatta was AMAZING. I was nervous to order it as I don't typically love white fish nearly as much as other seafood, but I went for it and it was one of the best seafood dishes I've had in a long time. White fish can tend to run dry, but not this one...the dish was full of so much flavor and the perfect combination of moist and crisp flavors. The rest of my group enjoyed the filet, ribeye, and clam linguine. Next visit to Martha's Vineyard I would definitely love to come back. read more

Let me preface this review with the stipulation that the manager on duty at Chesca's when we dined here was a picture of professionalism--she addressed all of our concerns with grace and aplomb. A huge thank you to her for arguably rescuing this experience for us. We found the complete opposite of this wonderful manager in the lone bartender on duty. We waited for over twenty minutes to order a few glasses of wine while waiting to be seated for our reservation. When we finally spoke up, asking that we be served in front of someone who had just arrived at the bar, the bartender ridiculed us, brushing us aside and sneering to the other customer that she "wouldn't allow [us] to make him [the customer] feel bad," because we "hadn't been waiting that long." This disrespect shown to us really poisoned our experience at Chesca's--fortunately, the manager's professionalism made up for the breathtakingly rude behavior of our bartender. Furthermore, it took one hour for our children's pasta to arrive, but that is beside the point. read more

We were very disappointed!!! My sister had gone directly to the restaurant to make reservations for 7 people and a baby, they took the reservation right then! When we arrived I asked for a high chair for the baby only to be informed they don't have high chairs or booster seats!! Were did they expect us to put the baby?? ( not kid friendly)! Soooooo good!!! We shared the local asparagus appetizer which was superb. I had the sole and my husband had the short ribs - both were fantastic. Best short ribs anywhere. Our server had a lovely Irish accent and knew just when to check in with us and when to leave us to our own conversation. The manager came by our table to make sure we were enjoying our evening. The menu is great, something for everyone but not overloaded. We had a great table by the window and enjoyed the atmosphere very much. The 2nd night of our stay we ventured out to Charlotte's Inn on the recommendation of a friend and it was not near as enjoyable as Chesca's. We will definitely return and try other dishes on their menu. Kudos!! read more

Not sure why this is rated so low-- great service, staff welcomed and sat us right away. Enjoyed a Pinot noir to start with the focaccia bread and hummus. I've dined at Chesca's twice and I want to give it 5 stars because the food is top knotch, but my experience with the hostesses and bartender last weekend really annoyed me. First of all, no reservations unless you are a party of 6 or more. I'm fine with that and in fact used to it living in BK. My part of 4 showed up and were told 30-60 minute wait but be back within 30. We arrived back 30 minutes later and were not given any sort of updated on timing. We proceeded to head to the bar to get drinks to enjoy on the porch. The wait for a drink was 30+ minutes. Not even an acknowledgement from the bartender. I get that he's working his butt off tending both the restaurant and the bar and that the restaurant gets priority, but no acknowledgement at all. Literally we are standing there patiently in a crowded and stale room looking right at him with zero recognition from him. A simple glance and "be right with you" would have gone a long way. Meanwhile, still no update on timing every time I went to get a status update from the hostesses. So 75 minutes later we were shown to a lovely table in the corner. Still no apologies from anyone. Others were getting frustrated as well (we almost staged a mutiny from the porch). FINE, CHESCAS! Anyways, once you actually sit down in the restaurant, the service is great, the ambiance is casually elegant, and the food is beyond delicious. The first time I went I ordered all specials and this time I ordered from the menu. The breadbasket is honestly one of my top 10 favorites and the white bean hummus is so so good. read more

I don't enjoy giving average reviews but I feel I'm being kind giving this place 2 stars. The ambiance and service was fine. The menu looked ok but the food we received was average at best. We had spaghetti w/white clam sauce. Nothing to write home about. Pizza was average. I had a "risotto" that tasted like Uncle Ben's minute rice w/fresh vegetables. Maybe this is the only decent place to get Italian food but you would do better to cook it yourself. read more

We tried this place during our recent vacation and were really happy we did! There was a relatively short wait, which was not unexpected. We stopped at the bar for a couple of drinks and the bartender is awesome! She handles the crowd smoothly and quickly and never loses her smile. A nice feature is that you can take your drinks onto a great porch complete with rocking chairs. Perfect setting for pre-dinner drinks! For dinner, we both tried the papardelle with bolognese. We're huge bolognese fans, and Chesca's offers a really unique twist on the traditional version. It's a creamy but less rich version and tastes great! The pasta tasted fresh and home made....yum!! We were both so happy with our meal that we went back the following night to get the same thing! The servers on both nights were fantastic. Professional, friendly and just the right level of attentiveness. Along with the hostesses and the great bartender, the staff was very impressive! We'll definitely be back! read more

one of the best fine dining spots in edgartown! i dined here for the 2nd time during one of the busiest weeks of the summer (right before labor day) with family and once again had a great time. we made a reservation the day of, the restaurant was able to squeeze in our party of 7 and even gave us our favorite corner window table upon request. our waiter paul was awesome and the food was even better. MUST TRY the gnocchi appetizer - to die for!! i would order this as an entree if i could! also very good are the short ribs, filet with potato au gratin, lobster ravioli and the salmon. our favorite dinner on the island!! read more

So frustrated with Chesca's! Decided to try it out on our last night of a lovely, long vaca - kids are getting older so wanted to branch out to a nicer spot from our usual Shanty and Lookout with an occasional visit to the Atlantic. Saw on Chesca's website that (1) they take call ahead addition to the waitlist if you are a party of 5+ and (2) they do pizza and pasta for kids. Great! Called at 7p, was told they didn't do call-ahead additions to wait list - told them their website says they do for 5+ ///so they added us but said it could be 45 min. I said no problem, we'd check in when we got over from Chappy in ~30 min... which did. They said we'd have the next table for 5, so we hung out in the lovely seats on the porch... for another 45 min! I finally went back in to check and a different hostess said "oh, we didn't know you were here, you hadn't checked in" - to which the first hostess says, oh, yes, she did... OH MY, so sorry, we'll get you a table ASAP. 10 minutes later we are finally seated... and when the waiter comes I think, i better check in the kids pizza since this night is not going well and kids are getting tired... and waitress says "oh, no, we haven't done that in over a year." GREAT. The menu is lovely but not stuff for kids and only one of mine likes pasta... so off we go. Spoke to the hostess on the way out - she says, oh, sorry. Ya, I told the owner he should update the website. Really, you think so??? An hour and a half after we arrived Chesca's we were off to the Seafood Shanty where at least they are service oriented!! The food is okay. The lack of AC would be unacceptable any place except here apparently. We were all thoroughly sweaty as if we were in a sauna after about twenty minutes. The maître d advised us that our tables were reserved for a next seating in 2 hours, before we even sat down. To say they rush you out would be understatement. We go because it's kind of a family tradition but overall Alchemy which is up the street has way better food and a nicer ambiance at the same price point. And no, I don't have any connection to Alchemy. read more
