I have had the exact experience as Meera S. They are expensive over $20,000, and I thought that would result in a great job--NOT. My usual painter painted the front of the house and side of the garage but could not go on because of time constraints. It rained the week they were to start and they came a day later. I asked if it was dry enough and they said no problem. I had talked with Cabot Stain people and explained that the house had an oil stain on it and they would have to prime with something that would make paint adhere. The men that worked were very nice. One year later the paint was pealing off in sheets and continues to do so. Josh, the owner tried to blame it all on bad wood. Not so, it is ultra expensive cypress meant to last lifetime and any wood that had to be replaced was fixed before they began. The saleman they use advised me to blame it on the paint. The only place their work is not peeling is where my other painter had painted. That should tell you something. Bottom line the reason the paint job failed and continues to fail is poor preparation not using a separate primer and possible moisture from the rain when they rushed their schedule. Josh does not answer any e-mails and the salesman said "I thought you said you were selling the house in 3 years" That ought to tell you something. read more

We have been using Chespeake for a variety of paint jobs around our townhouse for the past four years - our first experience with them was excellent and, even though they were a bit pricy, we never had any challenges with scheduling, communication, or quality and their representatives - Josh and Georgia in particular - regularly made me feel like a valued customer. This started changing last year we reached out to Chesapeake to help us repair our exterior bay window which was showing signs of rot underneath one of the windows. As with previous jobs, I had no problems with the service at the time - they were quick, replaced several boards, caulked, and repainted, and the bay window looked great. However, over the course of the next year, the corner where the new boards met began separating and the new paint underneath the window trim started flaking. The only places on the window where this was happening was where the new boards and paint were. We also wanted to redo our owner's bedroom closets and repaint the entire bedroom, so we reached out to Chesapeake at the end of February to contract both the bedroom and bay window. In mid-March we met with the project manager, Becca, who was really friendly and helped us pick out new closet doors (which we really like). We accepted the contract in mid-April. Two weeks passed where we had absolutely no communication from Chesapeake or Becca at all. I reached out for a status update and Becca emailed two business days later to schedule the installation of the doors on the following day. They installed the doors, I asked about when they would schedule the painting, and again heard nothing for two business days. I had to reach out again asking what the delay was, and got a response scheduling the interior paint (rain was getting in the way of the exterior). The crew for the interior paint was on time and professional, but they did not do sufficient prep work and, as a result, just painted over several holes in the wall which left obvious dents in the paint. They also left paint on our two-week old flooring and got paint on our door frames. There were also places where the paint was not smooth on the wall, and they left nail pops along the walls in the bedroom. To Chesapeake's credit, they were willing to fix these issues when they came to work on our bay window, and they did a good job (at least so far) on our bay window. I do like that they're willing to follow up as needed, but we paid a premium price ($900) just to paint our bedroom walls (no trim, no door frames, no ceiling) and they did not provide a premium service. We paid ~$1,050 last year for the bay window, and the quality of that work was poor. Chesapeake had been my go-to in the past and I'm hopeful that if we go with them for any future paint work, some of these problems will be fixed. For now, however, two less than good experiences warranted a lower rating. read more

The customer service here is INSANE! Josh and team did just a phenomenal job. They really do care about the customer from the beginning of the process all the way through to the very end. We painted our entire house indoor walls (~4,600 sq. ft), our kitchen cabinets, a wall cabinet, exterior shutters and then Chesapeake built us a shiplap wall and painted it in our master bedroom. Their employees were always on time and cleaned up after themselves each day and were very careful with our furniture. We LOVED the end result and were happy that they guided us through the process seamlessly as it can be quite stressful to paint an entire home! We are SO happy and received so many compliments after. If you're looking for a kitchen "remodel" without expensive new cabinetry then paint does wonders and can truly transform the space for a much lower cost. I was disappointed with the quality of the job. They arrived late and left early. On the final day of the job, they wanted to leave all the furniture where it had been moved to paint and asked me to get my husband to help me move it back and put all the outlet covers and light plates back on so they could leave. After they left, there was a corner that hadn't been touched even with primer. It is literally the original color. I couldn't see it without tiptoeing, but they were on ladders. Also, they were painting over water damage that is already showing after a couple of months. Much too expensive for the quality of work. I expected better. read more

Not knowing where to get a recommendation for a good painter, we asked our plumber. A little local knowledge goes a long way. Plus, if you can't trust your plumber who can you trust? We needed to get the house, roof, fence, deck and shed power-washed, sealed and/or painted. We sent an email to James Guth, the owner of Chesapeake Painting Services. He got back to us before the end of the day and scheduled a time to come out and take a look at the job. James arrived on time. He looked over the project, listened to our concerns, answered a couple of questions and promised to have a quote back soon. By soon he apparently meant that afternoon. The quote was itemized as we had requested, simple to understand, and very reasonable. We accepted the bid and emailed James to set a start date. The crew arrived on the following Monday as scheduled and on time. That's right, ON TIME. They worked hard straight through and completed the cleaning on day one. After a brief rain delay, they returned the following Thursday. Once again they arrived on time and wasted no time in getting started. They weren't standing in the drive way, drinking coffee. They came to work. The deck and fence were stained and sealed. The shed, with trim, was painted. And they did all in one magical day. The crew was very polite and professional. When they showed up they were ready to go. James came back a couple days later to inspect the job. Did he come alone? Of course not. He brought a couple guys with him just in case anything needed touching up. No bitchin' about what we should have expected. No BS science lesson on absorption rates of wood. His attitude was all about making sure the job was complete and we were happy. The cupola on the shed needed a little touching up, and a portion of the deck needed to be re-sanded a little, re-stained and re-sealed. Done and done. No bitchin'. No extra charges. Like many, I am in the midst of COVID-inspired home renovation. I plan to likely sell my house in the next couple years, but would love to get done some work both to make it look nice for selling, as well as to enjoy it a bit more myself while I'm here. One of my projects was to renovate the kitchen. I didn't want to completely re-model, but I wanted to give it a new look-and-feel. I got some estimates from general contracting companies, all of whom quoted 10k-20k for replacing cabinets and counters and such. I was not too keen to spend that amount if I was planning to sell in the near future. I was about to give up, when I ran across Chesapeake Painting Services, who offered "Cabinet Painting". I was a bit skeptical at first, but the estimate I receive, and the reviews of the company pushed me over the edge. And boy am I glad I did. The process was laid out clearly and concisely. They arrive on the first day, remove all of the cabinets doors and drawers, apply 2 base coats, and take the doors and drawers off-site to be painted. They come out the second day and apply two final coats. Then the end of the following week they return and re-seat the doors and drawers, install any new hardware/handles you want, and touch-up anything necessary. My kitchen looks spectacular. I was nervous that "painting" the cabinets would remove the wood texture, and make them appear flat and off-putting. But the wood texture is still accentuated and the color is amazing. The guy that came out each day to do the work did an amazing job, and answered any of my questions and responded to any of my requests. At the end of each day, the owner even called me to make sure I was happy with the work. My kitchen looks phenomenal, and just like I had it completely re-modeled. My general contractor was so shocked he thought they had actually installed new cabinets. I fully intend on utilizing CPS for future projects, and recommending to all friends and family. read more

My husband and I recently bought a home, it was built in 1997 and it still had the builders paint on it. We definitely wanted to make it our own and we were looking at different places to help us do it the caveat is it was the beginning of July and we are due with our first child the first week of August. We called Chesapeake painting services and within two days they got Mike out to do an estimate for us, he came out gave us our estimate and was very thorough. When we accepted the estimate it was time to schedule. Originally we were going to be scheduled for the first week of August until I told him about our due date, they took note of it and then called us and asked if 19 July would work. Of course we accepted it and a week later I got a call saying that they were able to move us up half a week and by the 20th our job was done. Our house is a decent size, they did the entire first floor 2 closets, a pantry, powder room, a two-story foyer as well as the upper hallway and closet. We had a team of four men come in and move all of the furniture, paint everything and they were so kind and courteous. They cleaned up every day before leaving, they asked me if everything looked Okay, which of course it did. Hilario (the job boss) came out multiple times and made contact with me to check how things were going. I was slightly nervous because I have a large dog and we need to access the first floor in order to take him out, the crew was incredible with him and when I had to take him out I gave them a heads up and they were perfectly fine with it. Everyone was so kind and incredible Josh called me multiple times to check how things were going, the crew was amazing again and I couldn't have asked for a better company. On top of just painting they were able to fix the walls where there was some corner tape peeling and nail pops. While they were painting the foyer ceiling they also replaced my chandelier. We had one master bathroom ( after a major overhaul) and the ceiling of another BR painted. The mbr had a skylight requiring a 12' ladder. The walls were sanded, a primer applied and two coats of paint applied. Edges around the newly installed tiles were masked and excellent edging toe avoid paint on the new work. A very professional job. Chesapeake Painting was recommended by a neighbor based on excellent work and glad we went with the same company. Chesapeake went above and beyond to remodel our home. We painted the entire inside of our home, added crown molding every where, replaced our main level floors and refaced our cabinets. They did an exceptional job from the estimator, Mike, to the end when they completed the job. We were always updated on the progress of things. The woman who answered the phone was friendly and accommodating. I had a bunch of questions for her that she was able to answer with ease. I really appreciated the great customer service! Chesapeake sent out an appraiser to see the space that same week. He was very professional and courteous. He answered all my questions about their technique and about the process thoroughly and with the knowledge that you would hope to find in a true professional. After seeing the quote, we decided to go with Chesapeake. Their service is reasonably priced. It's not cheap, but the finished product is well worth it. They fully prepped the space and did minor repair work to the walls. They use high-quality paint which improves the look of the finished product in my opinion. Additionally, they were flexible. I was so happy with the results halfway through the project that I asked them to paint an additional room. They were able to accommodate my request, and happily. When they finished painting they returned the room to exactly as it was when they arrived. They even left a small candle in the space as a gift with a 10% off my next service coupon. Overall, I can't recommend them more. If you have a space that you need to be painted, bring in Chesapeake. You'll be thrilled you did! read more
