Unfortunately my husband and I will not be returning to Cherry Pit. We were in the area and the reviews were good so we decided to give it a try. The restaurant is very cramped, the vinyl table cloths are sticky and the service was slow even though it was not busy at all. I got the ham and cheese panini, it was dry and flavorless. I also ordered a cherry lemonade which was way too sweet and syrupy. My husband doesn't even remember what he ordered, which means it was unmemorable. The price was high considering this was all we ordered. We will not be returning and are confused by the high reviews. Sorry to say this place is... the pits. read more

I love this place! When you first walk through the door you feel like you are in the 50s. We took a seat at the bar which really makes the era come alive. Our server came straight away and took our drink order, the orange juice is great! We then ordered our food and I got the pancakes they melted in your mouth. When arrived the hash browns, I was a a bit worried. They look nothing like regular browns do. They tasted incredible. I definitely recommend this place for family breakfasts. read more

I came here, like others based on the reviews I read when I needed to meet someone in the Northbrook area. Service was a tad slow but the food was excellent! Good size portions and well worth the money spent. It's a shame it closes at 3pm. Would be a great after work place to eat at if it didn't close so early. The service was exceptional. The food was extremely good. The huevo rancheros was soooo good. The refried beans were the creamiest my friend has had in a long time. The rice was very good and the eggs were cooked perfectly. I had the French toast and added eggs and bacon. It was very good also. My friend said the coffee tasted like cafeteria coffee, but that won't keep her from going back to this restaurant (and that's saying something about how good the food was since she is a serious coffee drinker). First timer and defiantly not my last. Called early this morning to make a reservation, knowing it would be busy on Mother's Day and they were able to accommodate our party of 6. The staff greeted us with warm smiles and hellos, which is always a plus. I wanted to get the French toast which I've heard great things but I was in a mood for something savory. For me this place is just so-so. The people who work here are very family oriented, so don't expect typical restaurant service. They are very sweet and kind. To the owner, please don't bring me my check while I am still eating my meal. It makes me feel like you want me to go fast. Please wait until I am done and ask me if there's anything more that I might want and then ask if you could bring the check. For me this is proper protocol. I didn't see the pumpkin pancakes listed, if I had maybe would've given them a try. The food is good yet not amazing. Very very basic diner food, and cute. I wish this family lots of success, yet it won't be at the top of my list to return. There is no back door for the parking lot, and this is an issue for people who have a hard time walking or when the weather is really bad you have to go all the way around the building. read more

How can you not love the Cherry Pit! It's a Deerfield institution, now owned by the three guys that have worked there for decades. Happy to see it back and wish them well. I took my daughter in today and we ordered one of the specials and a couple of poached eggs. Portions are huge, we had to take half of our meal home. They have remained the place and it is adorable. To begin with, the restaurant is extremely difficult to find. There isn't a large sign or anything, so we spent a long time trying to find it. The place is a little small, but cute. Although our cups were very dirty (it didn't look like they'd been washed as all). The menu could have had a few more options (like maybe add some crepes or something), but once we ordered, we were able to get our food really quickly. I think the food here was fine--nothing special--went for breakfast. The potatoes had a very odd taste like they are fried with some sort of fake fat--griddle grease of some sort--not butter--so unfortunately I neither ate or enjoyed them. The place lacks the connection it had when Kevin owned it. I sat at the counter and my waiter could hardly wait for me to order and then leave--which is strange because they were not that busy. I was not offered a refill on the coffee or asked if I would like anything else. While I always cheer for local places to be a success--I probably won't be back--there are too many other places that are in the vacinity that have better food and ambiance. My husband and I were looking for a low key place for late lunch. My tuna melt was really good. Just enough mayo to make it moist but not too much to make it watery. My husband had a Ruben and it had too much sauce for his taste but meat was really good. We'll stop by again when we are in the neighborhood. read more
