The customer service experience was disappointing during our visit. The person at the billing counter came across as rude and did not really answer the questions we had, which made the interaction unpleasant. A friendlier and more helpful attitude would really improve the overall shopping experience. That said, the store itself is large and has a good variety of products. We were looking for a specific type of rice, but unfortunately they didn't have it in stock. However, they did have fresh vegetables and a solid selection of groceries, which was good to see. Overall, the store has potential because of its variety, but better customer service would make us more comfortable about visiting again. read more

I have been a regular customer at Cherians Indian Grocery in Cumming for the past 12 years, and until today, I had never experienced such poor customer service. During checkout, the cashier, who seemed to be new, made multiple billing errors with my items and did not handle the situation professionally when the mistakes were pointed out.My Idly rice bag was clearly marked as $21.99, but she billed it as $22.99. When I pointed it out, she asked me to go take a picture of the price tag. I told her I did not have my phone with me, and she said she would go check herself. She went but never returned, so I had to go and show her the price tag personally. Even after seeing the $21.99 label, she seemed confused and went to another counter to discuss it with another employee while chatting and laughing instead of resolving the issue professionally. Another item, Paneer, was marked $4.99 on the shelf but was billed as $5.99 and already packed into the bag. I had to ask her again to verify the price before she corrected it. To make matters worse, I had purchased 2 packs of Maggi and returned 1 pack before payment. She started searching through all my groceries as if something was wrong. When I politely asked what she was looking for and explained that I had only returned one pack, she responded very rudely, saying she needed to check everything. After payment, I simply told her that speaking to customers that way was not good for the store's reputation. Instead of handling the feedback professionally, she argued back and told me not to speak to her like that. I understand that new employees need time to learn, but basic customer service and proper training are extremely important. Long-time customers should not have to deal with repeated billing mistakes and rude behavior. With untrained staff and poor customer interaction, Cherians' reputation may suffer in the future. read more

Rice with full of bugs, bad quality, un-hygiene, rude staff. The manager especially is so rude.

Love this store! They have a great selection of Indian food and groceries as well as fruits/vegetables/sweets. I love stopping by by for kulfi! The people are super sweet but it does get crowded, so if you are in a rush make sure to not go at peak times! read more

This is our go-to Indian grocery store because it has everything we need and is one of a kind in the area. Variety: From fresh produce to frozen snacks/meals to all sorts of lentils, Cherians carries almost all of the groceries we need that we don't get from the usual American stores. Generally, we don't have any issues with the shelf life of the items we buy from here and the prices aren't extremely inflated or unaffordable. Extras: There are regular bags of Lay's chips near the cash register, some basic groceries such at tomatoes, a few Indian sweets and snacks served at the front, and occasionally fresh sugar cane juice near the entrance. Environment: It gets extremely crowded in the store, especially on weekends. In particular, it is difficult to maneuver the cart around the groceries, other shoppers, and the helpers that are replenishing shelf items throughout the day. The crowded environment makes it difficult to pick out each grocery without rush, but people are generally attentive to make space. It is clean enough to feel comfortable buying groceries, but not a place where you would want to eat off the floor. Service: People aren't welcoming you and attending to your every need, but checkout is generally smooth. It is obvious that people on the floor work very hard to replenish items, but they do speak Spanish and are only the go-to people to help find some products, not all. Parking: There is a lot of its own for the store and parking isn't usually a problem. read more

Today i went to a store called Cherian International Fresh Market - Cumming located at below address 2255 Peachtree Pkwy, Cumming, GA 30041 They sell sugarcane juice, and I ordered 2 cups, they take sugarcane and squeeze through a machine and put the juice in a cup and give to customers. I noticed the person who makes sugarcane juice is using the same plastic gloves to clean the table, squeeze the wash cloth and make the sugarcane juice and he sometimes touches the juice which is given to customers. This juice will be contaminated with bacteria from wash-cloth since he is using the same gloves and not changing the gloves after he cleans the table. I asked him to replace the gloves, after cleaning the table, but he did not replace it. I informed the manager, but the manager also did not instruct the employee to change the gloves , and said table and wash cloth is cleaned everyday and he need not replace his hand gloves every time he cleans the table with that wash cloth, i don't want to drink contaminated sugarcane juice hence my part, I cancelled my order and received a refund for my order. But in view of a broader public health and hygiene issue , I want to bring this incident to your attention and hope others take note of this before purchase and drink un-hygienic/dirty/contaminated sugar cane juice from this store. read more

Started shopping from the first store a few months after they started the store. In those days, it was an heavenly experience to drive 120 miles to reach at "Cherians", hardly any Indian store in many of the neighboring States. Do remember his eldest son asking me when I was a new customer " may I help you" while his head was not much above the table. I have helped them a few times to unload their grocery from the delivery truck (in the first store) and told him, I will charge you for the labor when you became very big. Thank GOD, that prediction has been turned true now. They treat me and my family like VIPs always. Their restaurant items like masala dosa-ghee dosa-urid vada etc are very tasty, thus eating there in every visit is a new habit. How many times my family and I have visited them, only GOD knows. A very friendly and peaceful atmosphere-great price-quality goods; thus they have created an army of loyal customers from Atlanta and the neighboring States. GOD has abundantly blessed them. GOD bless them more. read more

A busy busy Indian grocery store. Everything you need under one roof. Fruits, veggies, etc for a fraction of big store prices. Small aisles so be ready to maneuver quite often. Everyone pretty much minds their own business. There is a fresh sugar cane/ coconut juice man at the front of the store. He is very popular. The reason I'm taking off a star is because you DO have to watch the checkout process. The cashier I had tried THREE times to charge me incorrectly. But nuh uh, not this gal. The next time I went in the manager pulled me out of line and rang me up himself. That was nice! This grocery store is conveniently located next to other Indian stores: eating and shopping. read more

What can I say? Once you move into a new stomping grounds, the first thing a Desi does is scope out the grocery and food shops! I have to say, this store delivered in spades. Clean, wide aisles, fantastically stocked and neat frozen section that includes a variety of seafood. There was a lady constantly checking inventory, nary a spot of dust on products. Prices were a bargain, the fresh food sold in trays (dal wada and samosas) yum! Fantastic! So pleased with this grocer! read more

SCORE!! It has been a while since I last visited Cherians but I was craving cashews so I stopped by. Cherians is a small Indian store located just north of Walmart on Peachtree Parkway. I enjoy just browsing the store to see what's new and today I was pleased that the store is better organized and is now stocking additional items like brown rice and a more varied selection of fruit. Their herbs, dill and cilantro always look very fresh and the prices for their produce are always very reasonable. Today as I am perusing the aisles, I notice the turnips and decide to purchase several. I love turnips as a potato substitute because of their smooth texture and close resemblance. My husband has been "bad-mouthing" turnips for a while but I don't think that he has ever tasted one. I decided that soup would be a great way to showcase them because of the complexity of flavors and spices that make everything delicious. The spicy chicken vegetable soup with a southwestern accent, was a big hit. My husband absolutely loved the soup and the turnips! Score!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Looks like I will be heading back to Cherians for more turnips because he really wants me to make more soup. This store is a bit small but they have a great bean, spice and nut selection that is second to none. I like just being able to select random items to try and it is always fun to take a risk and discover something new and delicious. They have a number of packaged and frozen items so if you want to try something different for dinner, the options are available. ***This is a great place to purchase over-ripe bananas for smoothies or baking. read more

This place was a little disappointing, but it is definitely better than the Indian stores we have here in Birmingham. The bf and I usually go to Patel Bros, but we wanted to try something different. This place is definitely no Patel Bros, but it'll do. And it is not an international grocery, it is Indian grocery. The website says they have groceries from all over the world. Maybe the Decatur location is different, but there were no "worldly" groceries here. Just Indian and Pakistani. The website also says they are the largest. Again, don't know about the other location, but this location is definitely smaller than Patel. Good amount of veggies. Good amounts of pretty much everything. read more

This store is well stocked and clean. The goods are well priced. Between Cherians and Suvhida (both on Peachtree pkwy), you do not need to venture to Decatur for Indian supplies. Suvhida offers pretty incredible take out foods. This Cherians doesn't have any food stalls, but they have everything as far as groceries. read more

I love coming here! Been a customer since it has opened. I have also visited the other location (Cherians in Decatur) Both of the locations are packed with products. My favorite aisle is the cookies and candy aisle. They have so many different types of sweets. They also have a great selection of fruits and vegetables to choose from. I have visited other Indian Stores in Atlanta, but it doesn't compare to the service and quality of Cherians. If you're looking for a good Indo-Pak Store filled with lots of sweets, spices, fruits, vegetables, frozen indian dishes, ice cream. Come here! *ALSO - If you want some fresh Indian food, go to the Cherians Decatur location. They have a small restaurant in there! The pricing is decent!* read more

Cherians is the best of all Indian groceries stores. Period. I say it's the best because - 1) Availability - there is always a good variety of fresh produce here (and I always shop here over the weekends so I can't vouch the same for weekdays). Okra,my fav veggie in the whole world is twice as fresh and tender here than what you find at publix or Kroger. hence my okra dishes are twice as yummy when I buy them here :P 2) Staff - really sweet and friendly. Instead of digging through sections, ask them and they will walk you to the isle and show you where the item is! 3) clean, neat and organized! (Which is a rarity amongst other Indian stores) 4) affordable - I bet if you get the same amount of spices in any other regular store you would spend twice or even thrice as much. Best part of visiting here is you can always end your grocery shopping with sweet fresh coconut water(from Costa Rica) or have the freshly squeezed sugarcane juice! Indeed other reviewers feel this as an exotic lil place :P and I don't blame them :) I have been to their other branch in Decatur couple of times and I have had good experiences there as well. read more

I love this place as I am a fan of international ingredients. They have a sugar cane press where they press fresh juice and sell in cups. So yummy and fun! My bargain finds here have been: Packs of Himalayan pink salt, plantain chips(huge bag), Ghee, & their pickled relishes. read more

Cherians is a decent Indian grocery store. They have a good selection of most of your grocery needs from vegetables to different types of dry goods. I have been a regular customer for the last 3 years and I will caution you to check whether a few of the items such as coconuts and Panneer are fresh or rotten. On my last grocery trip, I happened to pick a stale Panneer (Indian Cottage Cheese) and did not realize it until the next day when I took it from the fridge. I wanted to see if I could exchange it, but the customer service rep flat out refused. I am not sure if it is my fault to have picked a rotten item or is it Cherian's fault to have stocked rotten items?? Their fine print says "No vegetables or frozen items will be refunded/exchanged." I get it. But Panneer is neither a vegetable nor frozen. It is REFRIGERATED. There is a difference. The least they could have done was apologized for stocking rotten items. Henceforth, I will ensure to check for the items' freshness and switch loyalty to Suvidha or Patel Bros. read more

I know that this may seem incredible to a whole lot of people. I mean, I know I was taken aback when I spotted this incredibly complete Indian grocery store here in Forsyth County, of all places. I'm a novice at Indian food, please understand (I'm not sure if Sag Paneer is something that can be corrected with plastic surgery or not). I DO know I like curries and Naan. I'm vague on the difference between masala and marsala. What I'm excited about is how convenient it will be to buy things like ghee (clarified butter), jagerry (palm sugar), lychees, and to browse, browse, browse. Very nice and helpful staff who were laughing with me (I hope). The store is spotless, and smells like all kinds of exotic stuff Aunt Mildred never thought of. read more

Love these stores, this one in particular is fun to wade thru, always a lot of stuff to see and always something new that I didnt see before. Plus you get spices at bulk prices. If you like to cook Indian food, or just don't wanna pay retail prices for spices, check it out. Its very clean, friendly and stocked. I went in to get a few spices that I can't find in my local store. One of the workers told another how they hate when whites people come in and how it's here for Indians. I just walked out and will never go back. Been to Cherians, Patel Bros in Decatur and other Indian grocery stores in Duluth, Cumming etc. This one is also no different. You will get almost all the items that you'd normally find in a desi store. My issue is with some of their pricing and quantity of the locally made items (dosa & Idli batter etc). Unless you are careful you won't notice the price difference which ranges from 10-75 cents. That adds up. The difference was even more clearer during Diwali. I went to the Cherians @ Decatur to do the Diwali shopping but forgot a few things so went to the Cumming location. There were lots of specials at the Decatur location whereas nothing at the Cumming location. That's ok. Since the price list was fresh on my mind, I could see the price difference at Cumming location. $2.69/lb item would be $2.99/lb and so forth. And people usually don't pay attention to these kind of differences unless it's more than few dollars. I know it's only a few dollars but so what. Yes I did calculate the taxes. The other issue is with the Idly & Dosa batter. Almost all the Indian stores get their batters from the same supplier (Madurai Foods) and sell it for $3.99/container. At first I didn't notice but my wife pointed out that the quantity is slightly less, about an inch less from the top. We ignored the issue thinking it's done manually so it's not consistent. And who pays attention to the quantity of batter anyway. In the past month I got the batters from another store in Duluth and it was consistently full to the brim. But when I purchased the batters from Cherians @Cumming again, well it was less than an inch from the top. May be I'm too picky or fussy. read more

Disclaimer: I can't generally stand Indian grocery stores and avoid them at all cost. With that being said, I'm extremely impressed with Cherian's. I made the mistake of going on a Saturday mid morning so it was jampacked, but they literally had so much variety that I could not decide what to get and what to leave. The store is well-stocked, very clean, and extremely busy. The cashier was polite. And the prices were extremely reasonable. I didn't get a chance to check out the fresh vegetables because it was extremely crowded and I couldn't walk in that area with my cane. Unfortunately, they were out of the fresh samosas which had sold out and the restocking wasn't for another couple of hours so I didn't get to try out their snack stand. Next time, I'm gonna go on a weekday when it hopefully won't be as crowded. I really want to spend more time looking at everything on the shelves. read more

Good store. Good service though at times it is difficult to get help when you are searching for something. Overall satisfactory

This place was disappointing to me. Better customer service is suggested.mainly the person who sits in freezer needs to learn it.

I needed a grocery store close by and a few friends suggested Cherians. But from the very first visit I was not very happy with the store. But since that was kind of an option closer than Patel Bros, I visited there a few times. But the last couple visits were shocking to me! I went to get Amul ghee and noticed that all the packs there were expired over a month ago. I informed that to one of the staff members, to which she replied confidently that cannot happen, I walked back to the aisle and showed her the dates. I was expecting a sorry maybe and obviously that they would discard that stock. My next(and now my last) visit was yesterday. Again I had to get ghee and I went to pick Amul ghee. And it was the biggest shock to see the same stock there about 3 weeks later. And even worse, they have pasted a new label right below the original printed date. As per the new sticker, the ghee is now supposedly good till Dec 2014!!!! The same ghee which as per the original date expires in June 2014!! Unbelievable!!! Also I found some bugs in the Pav bhaji bread packets, and I showed the same to another staff member, to which his response was that it was fresh from today morning!! It is good bye to Cherians from me and I will highly discourage all my friends and acquaintances from visiting there too. read more
