Very happy to find a local tortilla bakery not far from our home! I love the smell of bakeries- sugar happiness. The corn tortillas are best eaten the day of purchase. Nice thickness that they did not fall apart when we made breakfast tacos at home. The grocery store across the parking lot seems expensive for the items that they are selling- hope that they are not taking advantage of their clientele..... read more

Everything Hispanic related for food is here at this grocery store. The butcher case is full of great options of meats, and even pre-seasoned selections. The produce section is small, but they still carry a respectable amount of veggies. There's also a small restaurant inside this store. read more

Great place to visit with friends, kind employees and great environment. I keep coming back because I always know what I am getting. The prices are reasonable, and the portions are large and tasty. I love the bakery too, everything is so delicious and I absolutely love having great food so close to my house. read more

"A quien madruga Dios lo ayuda" (God helps those who rise early). Getting up early, in this case, means being blessed with a great Mexican breakfast. "Desayuno" is served 7-11am with great dishes as Huevos Rancheros, Huevos a la Mexicana, Huevos Nortenos, and Huevos con Frijloles. in other words, eggs however you like them! Almost all entrees are around $6.99 and come with rice or beans, tortillas or bread and a coffee. (Coffee definitely isn't their forte) Overall a fantastic, flavorful breakfast. After breakfast you've got some great lunch and dinner options. Authentic and classic tacos, burritos, and quesadillas as well as the less often seen Sopes and tortas. Spanish helps at the counter, but service is friendly although not always fast. Overall, a great spot for breakfast or tacos, so skip the Chick-fil-A and Taco Bell drive-thru lines and come in for something amazing. read more

Great tacos and good options on groceries. I highly recommend this location. Delicious Mexican food

Carniceria Hernandez has a food truck on the weekends. The food is wonderful and the service amazing.

My kids and I like to eat here from time to time. Very good and authentic. Not fancy, just good. Great salsas, friendly people.

Been here in the area for 5 months and its the best taco joint thus far. I got Al Pastor tacos. $2.50 a pop. Super tasty. Pork. Cilantro. White onion. Squeeze of lime. Done deal. I will be back. Stay away from tex mex places. read more

We're from Texas and we're looking for Mexican food. After seeing the yelp reviews we decided to try it. The place itself is not appealing because it is mainly a carniceria(?), a Mexican meat market, but the food we ordered was wonderful. We ordered the grande beef quesadilla and it was really too much for us to eat but it was so delicious that we finished the entire thing. I still am envisioning the wonderful taste. If we were ever back in this area we would eat here again. read more

This place is amazing for the street tacos. It is off the beaten path and doubles as a grocery store as well. I wish this were in a more convenient location. That said, there is a large seating area with TVs playing Spanish speaking programming. The taco booth in the back left corner, you can't miss it. What puts this place over the top is the free chips and salsa bar. I made the mistake of ordering 3 tacos, thinking they were your typical sized ones. Turns out they were huge. I had two Asada and one Pastor. Besides my favorite spot in southern California, this is the best pastor I have had. The meat was fairly crispy and the seasoning was bold and had a nice kick. I could not finish them all. I wish this were in a more convenient location. read more

The staff is Always nice and food is soooooooooo good ! I get the barbacoa tacos and they hit every time

Carniceria Hernandez is a small Hispanic grocery store on the south side of Cumming, Ga., and without the advice of one of my buddies, I would never have known about the jewel of a restaurant that resides in the back of this place. They are turning out the most authentic Mexican dishes out of this little place that you have to see to believe; not to mention, it's on the cheap. For $5 you can round up a steak burrito that puts any burrito that you have ever had to shame (Moe's should be ashamed of themselves). The tacos, tortas, and fajitas all, like the burritos, are out of this world. The service is also unexpectedly good. Honestly, I'm the whitest white boy you've ever seen, but these folks treat this gringo with utmost care. The huge language barrier between the cashier and me always gets comical, and we usually crack each other up, but they could probably just give me a bag of whatever they wanted, and it would still blow my socks off. Once you've enjoyed your down home vittles, make sure to do a tour of the grocery store, and pick up some of their fresh pastries or monstrous pork skins. Make sure that you get to this place soon, and tell them the big white nerdy gringo sent you! You will love this place; I promise. read more

Super delicious meat selection. They barbacoa is savory and yummy. The burrito asado with steak could have def had more meat on it but the fixings.... Chef's kiss! No rice on it, beans, fresh tomatoes and avocado, cheese and sour cream. Sooo good. The location sits inside a Mexican grocery story with a lunch counter and some booths but the food speaks for itself! read more

This taqueria is located inside a Hispanic grocery store. My boyfriend happened to find this through Yelp after we were leaving a Yelp elite event. There is plenty of seating as well as a variety of options on their menu. Some items seem a bit pricey while others seem very fair priced. You order up front and your food is brought to your booth. We actually came here twice. Our first experience was a lot better than the second. The first time we came was on a Friday morning and the food was delicious! Our second time was on a Tuesday and the food was average. We were very surprised to see the tacos were made with handmade tortillas. This is a big bonus! Most taco places we have been to use store bought tortillas. My boyfriend loves tripa tacos and he said the first time they were very crispy and flavorful, but the second time they weren't as good. They were not as crispy and they had an organ taste to it. The asada tacos were flavored very well both times. The asada burrito was HUGE and it comes with a lot of toppings like lettuce, tomato, onion, avacado, sour cream, cheese, rice, and beans. You could choose to leave things out if you want. It's very flavorful, but the sour cream was too much for me. The chilaquiles I would not order again. The tortilla was very crispy so it added a nice crunchy texture to the dish, however the salsa was too sour. I'm usually a sour lover but this made my stomach feel very irritated. The tlacoyos are like a sope but it is stuffed with beans. You pick the meat topping you would like. This dish was very good, but the salsa at the top was also too much. It was the same salsa used in the chilaquiles. They have a self serve toppings bar with different types of salsas. The bar also has cucumbers, radishes and limes. The avacado salsa is my favorite! It is very flavorful and also spicy. read more

Whenever I feel lazy about cooking I love coming to this place to grab a bite. They are actually authentic Mexican food with Agua frescas. The service is expected for any other restaurant, slow when busy and fast when business is slow. Make sure to serve ur own salsa and topping at the salsa bar before u sit down to eat! The ambiance is the same as any other food court inside a grocery store. :D read more

YUCK! I don't know what this place is doing now, but the tacos where disgusting! First off.... I ordered 4 chicken and 2 barbacoa.... got 4 steak and the 2 barbacoa. I LOVE LOVE the chicharron from this carniceria. I've tried some from other locations and those are either too dry or have a weird flavor. The chicharron con carne here at Hernandez is by far THE best! I also love their fresh pan dulce next door. They carry a wide variety of Mexican candy, dried chiles and so much more! I highly recommend Carniceria Hernandez. read more

Wow! I was really surprised by how awesome the food was here. I'm originally from Southern California and one of few things I actually miss about it is the food. I haven't been able to find Mexican food this good outside of the border states (California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas) since I moved out this way. I have been living in a hole - that is the only excuse that seems adequate for not trying Hernandez sooner. I cannot believe I waited so long. First, any menu that is in both English and Spanish is deserving of my attention. The food here - delicious. Much more authentic than most "Mexican" restaurants in the area. Got chicken tacos for less than $2 each. LOVED them. Their salsa rocks my world. Hernandez...it's just GOOD! read more

Their chips are perfectly crispy, crunchy, and the flavor is unbeatable. They only do their free house chips on the weekend (which I recently found out) but they're worth it. The al pastor tacos are flavorful and the meat is succulent. I assume it's from their own meat, since this has a supermarket attached. The quesadillas are also bomb. If you order their enchiladas, you'll probably have some left, as the portion is huge! Seriously, this is a hidden gem, in a tiny strip mall with a coin laundry. We come here regularly when we need our authentic Mexican food fix. Oh!! And their salsa bar is also on point! read more

To each their own, but to me the low-star reviews here are dead wrong and one in particular is downright obnoxious (I'm looking at you Ann S.). We spent $15.52 on two burritos (asada and chorizo) and each one was HUGE and legit to die for. I'm a pretty big eater and I could only finish the smaller half of mine (asada). The burritos were chock full of the main ingredient (the asada steak was flavorful and had a bit of grill-top crunchiness to it) as well fresh secondary ingredients (pretty sure ours had half an avocado each). Not to mention the ridiculous fresh salsa bar with salsas that will light you up if you didn't purchase a beverage. Before trying it though, understand that this is an authentic MEXICAN SUPERMARKET first and foremost not some place that caters to Americans. That being said, be kind and courteous, enjoy their fantastic food and patronize their establishment again if you liked it! read more

My family and I enjoy eating here or getting it to go. Nothing fancy about the place, but that's ok because the food is delicious! This is as close as authentic as Mexican food could get in Cumming. Unless you've been to Mexico or California, you have not had authentic Mexican food, as all restaurants here claim to have. My husband is in love with this place! Enjoys the seafood soup, tacos, and yummy breakfasts. Friends of ours told us about this location. They drive from alpharetta during lunch break to eat here! Authentic tacos with cilantro and onions. The meat department on the supermarket side is very clean and organized. We order the fajita meat prepared. They spray some yummy spices on it. Pop that on the grill and it's awesome. We had friends in for the holidays and had lunch there. The pork chop special was great. Staff is very friendly and although we don't speak Spanish (wish we knew how!), they are always helpful and take care of us. :) Great job everybody. We are happy customers! read more

This restaurant deserves a 5 star for food, but I cannot separate out food with the restaurant, so I give it 4 overall, but truly, the food is 5 star in terms of taste. The restaurant is part of a Mexican grocery store that serves authentic Mexican food. One way to know whether a Mexican restaurant is authentic or not is by the people who crowd it( when you see Mexican workers in restaurant and trucks and buses parked in the lot), and if the restaurant has a salsa bar. If there is no salsa bar, it is not an authentic Mexican, period. This restaurant was an accidental discovery for me(even before it had made it to the Yelp) when I was driving past it, and was so hungry that I sneaked in this carneceria expecting to get something to grab. But to my surprise, it not only had enough to offer but was beyond expectation in taste. I use to live in Smyrna and my favorite in that area was "Tacos La Villa". After moving to Cumming, I was always looking for an alternative to Tacos La Villa, since I missed it so much. And in Hernandez, I found that alternative. My personal favorites at this place are the Molcajete, Enchilada Roja(red salsa, but I was told they stopped cooking that now), Tostadas, tacos and of course their spicy, tangy and delicious salsas from the bar. The quantities are ample and prices are unbelievably low. The serving staff is nice and polite, the ladies at the counter are great and talk humbly. Not many people may like the ambiance of the restaurant since it is not so clean, overflowing trash cans, food residues lying on floor etc. But if you truly want to taste the authentic food, this place is great. I will advice the staff to keep the place a bit cleaner. If they do, this is the best place I can suggest in this area for any authentic Mexican food lover. read more
