Always great service. Love their Breakfast . Some of the best Mexican around. Shrimp and grits is my favorite.

Such a great find! The portions were huge, even the kids' meals. We ordered the fajita platter and still had plenty left over. The hibiscus margarita we got in the largest size was delicious and totally worth it. Service was friendly, attentive, and super helpful. Great food, great value. read more

What has happened to my favorite Mexican restaurant? The last few times I have been the food tasted like warmed up tv dinners and weren't even hot all the way through. Very disappointing! I used to really enjoy going here. read more

Went to Balsas Mexican Restaurant tonight, weather was very iffy and wanted to get outdoor covered seating. Our server was very friendly and checked on us frequently. We ordered a pitcher of their house margarita, cheese dip with jalapeños which was very good. I ordered the mini changas and my husband ordered Diabla steak and shrimp. All food was very good. We did get plenty of sunshine and was able to watch the playoffs outside! Just a fyi they do charge a extra alcohol tax and a charge if you use a credit card, we were charged approximately $3.00 more for using a credit card. read more

I been driving by this place and been meaning to stop by and I finally got a chance to. I came in on Saturday during lunch time and there wasn't many people yet. Parking can be limited as it's right off the road next to HWY 9. The outside of the restaurant looks like a house and not much. I always love trying these hole in the wall places Lower cars beware as there is a nice dip from the roadway to the parking lot that could cause you to bottom out underneath. Lol. Thank god, I came in my suv and not my sports car!! We were seated right away by our friendly waitress in a booth of our choosing. I picked Fiesta Calamari as our appetizer. Of course the place had complementary amazing salsa and chips. The fiesta calamari was amazing. It had a spicy sweet mayo sauce to it with pineapple, onions, green pepper, cilantro, lemons, already inside of it. The portion was a generous size as well. $10 well worth it! For the main course, I ordered the Balsa Steak with rice, beans, salad, and veggies. The steak was cooked to perfection and super tender. I loved the rice as well. My date had the shrimp fajitas tacos that looked and tasted super amazing. Service was great here and food was awesome. I will definitely be back again and recommend this small mexican restaurant if your in the area. Bathrooms was super clean too. Lol. read more

We love this place. The food is excellent and the service is outstanding every time!

Quaint little place on the side of the rode. Went with a friend after a hike. We were seated promptly and the server got our drinks. We got a fiesta shrimp for our appetizer which was pretty good, however when I inquired about the menu to the server it seemed that she wasn't familiar with it and repeatedly had to go back and ask. I eventually settled on the molcajete which was okay but was absurdly salty. They also charge for sour cream which I used to temper the saltiness. Overall, disappointing service and just OK food. If you're in a pinch and are craving Mexican food, this would be a place to tickle the craving but not satiate it. read more

We went there today after visiting the first time after the pandemic. Now they charge $3 for use of credit card- my son and I and his friend went for lunch and because of service fees paid over $100 just for lunch- no alcohol- please help this restaurant find help- lack of service, it took us an hour read more

Food is excellent and staff very friendly and attentive. Great margaritas. Cute decor.

Should have known not to enter when we saw the exterior. We were persuaded to try because of all the positive reviews, big mistake. Horrible old dirty hole in the wall with subpar food and a bunch of flies. In this case, your should judge a book by its cover and keep on driving past. read more

Food was great and the menu has a variety of items you don't usually find at a mex restaurant.

Happy cinco de mayo! Nice to be able to get a table on may 5 but they had a band playing rock? Good burritos and good gauc and sauce. The drinks are potent! I would gave given it a 4/5 but unfortunately we were seated next to the loudest table. Mu ears are still ringing. Will try again and will update if my experience is better read more

I think I found my new favorite Mexican joint! Cumming is not exactly known for restaurant excellence, so this little jewel stands alone. I was delighted to find a fish taco prepared just the way I like it. Each taco contained two or three fried fish cutlets along with a yummy cabbage slaw and some sort of seasoned remoulade-type sauce on top. Boy, that was some tasty fare! Rice and refried beans were the sides. My only complaint was the bland rice. My husband had a humongous untraditional Cuban sandwich which was accompanied by some outstanding seasoned fries. Now, this isn't a fancy new place, but in fact an older, smaller restaurant that probably needs some professional updating! However, you'll overlook all that once you taste their food! read more

Very good freshly cooked food!! Definitely coming back 1,000 times. Tuna platter is by far the best but everything is amazing!

Now the term hole in the wal is meant to express how good a place you go for some of the best food but most pass right by THIS place doesn't disappoint. This is wine of the best restaurant I have been to in a long time. The staff is super Friendly and attentive even siting down and having a good conversation with us (where ing a mask of course) and going as far as to us being first timers giving a free appetizer and recommendations for the best things on the menu. ALSO saying that if you don't like you don't have to pay which your going to want to and even come back because that's how good this place is As you can see from the photos the food looked amazing and we had clean plates with to go box's we were all full To summarize one of the best places I have been to in a long time 10/10 read more

Awful!! Placed an order for pickup via Door Dash. My husband went to pick up our order only to be told the restaurant was too busy to confirm and prepare our order. No manager on duty to assist. No one at all who cared to assist. The worst customer service we have ever experienced. Zero stars!!! read more

"He is not fat -- it is his belt that doesn't fit." Mexican proverb That was my excuse when I left Rio Balsas Taqueria, Cumming's newest Mexican addition. This is a great family owned Mexican restaurant. The owners take pride in their menu and offering. The owner has years of experience working in large chains, and brings this expertise to this local spot. Casual, comfortable environment. The food is prepared well and beautifully plated, service is fast and friendly. A good selection of tequilas are available. They offer a .99 cent tasting glass of their house margarita, which is perfect size for those that have to get back to work. I had the Sopes, which were piled so high that i had to use knife and fork to eat them. Chips are thin, light, and crispy. Salsa was fresh and flavorful. Looking forward to coming back to Rio Balsas with my new belt! read more

Chips and salsa are some the best I've had in the area. Chips are crispy and not greasy, salsa is flavorful with just the right amount of spice. I had the crispy tacos, definitely preferred the chicken, but the ground beef was good also (just slightly greasy, but had lots of flavor). Hubby had the chicken enchiladas and thought they were delicious and had good flavor. Will definitely return to try a few more menu items! read more

My fiance' and I had just moved to the area and we were looking to find a new Mexican joint that would come close to the last place we frequented. The place isn't the most welcoming when it comes to appearance, but when we walked in the staff was nice and promptly seated us. I had a margarita and a steak burrito. The burrito was very good and the meat was tender. The margarita lacked flavor and wasn't that strong. My fiance got the chicken quesadilla and it was somewhat bland, i rarely add salt to mexican food but the quesadilla needed it. The service was solid and the food came out quick. We will be back for another try. read more

After passing this establishment about a million times, my wife and I decided to give this place a try. Boy, was it worth it! I ordered the Balsas Burger and quickly came to the realization that it was one of the best burgers I have ever had...I kid you not! I know this is a Mexican food establishment but trust me, try the Balsas Burger. My wife ordered a very generous sized steak burrito and we both thought it was tasty. The chips and salsa are very good and our service was outstanding. I highly recommend this place and don't make the mistake that we made for years....don't judge this book by its cover! read more

First off, the staff was great. Friendly and attentive. The food was pretty good - I wouldn't say great, but there are definitely worse places around. The main thing that struck everyone in my family when we stepped in was the old musty smell - like mildew. The place hasn't had a serious cleaning on a long time - the windows were dusty and the whole place just felt a little grimy and run down. We were all careful not to touch anything we didn't have to. However, again - the staff was great and everyone liked the food well enough. I don't think it stood out as amazing or anything, but provided no ends up getting sick in the next 24 hours, I'll consider the trip worth it. The prices were on par with other Mexican places, but given the run down nature of the building, I feel like it's probably a little over priced. read more

We've been ordering food and dining in for a while now so I feel like I can write a review. I can't give this place five stars because nothing is ever consistent. Some days my skirt steak is cooked to perfection, and sometimes it's overdone. Sometimes the rice is moist and fluffy, and most of the time it's not. OK let me rephrase, one time the rice was fluffy. Sometimes the staff is really friendly but sometimes they are not. With the exception of the first of our 15+ visits, we haven't had a five star meal there. I had to write a review this day because I realize that I've been overcharged many times. On their website the prices don't match their in menu prices. To rectify the pricing situation, I had to wait for the cashier to call the boss. I don't think that's necessary when I show you your own website, which was the menu I ordered from. They have a few really great dishes but I've never had a winning experience. Please excuse any spelling/grammar mistakes, this review was written with the help of Siri. :-) read more

I'd driven by this place 100s of times in the past without noticing it, but today some friends steered me here for lunch. The menu is definitely different from most every other tex-mex place I've been to locally. Had the pork fajitas which were quite good and very filling. If I were a big fan of Mexican food I might have rated it higher or lower with more expertise, but I enjoyed my meal. read more
