I didn't get much feedback from her about it. Our server was very friendly and once she learned we spoke Chinese, she started chatting with us in Mandarin. We had a great time chatting with her. The owner, Chris, is so hands on, a wonderful guy, always some welcoming, checking on his guests, just seems to have the pulse of everything going on. The food is still spectacular! So happy we decided to try it! The restaurant had great lighting and cute decor. We decided to sit at the bar which was empty. I ordered a mocktail called Ginger Dawn, which was a lemon, ginger and honey drink. It was so yummy and perfectly balanced. My friend ordered a Whiskey Sour off the late night happy hour menu and he said it was good. As for food, it was so tasty and just got better with every bite. I ordered the okoyadon rice bowl which was chicken, egg and scallions over rice. It was so delicious. It was very hot when it first came out but once it cooled down a little bit, the flavor was amazing. My friend got yakiudon noodles with beef and the flavor was great. We ordered the spring rolls off the happy hour menu. I've had better spring rolls elsewhere, but it was nice to have on the happy hour menu. For dessert, we ordered the lychee sherbet and the sweet potato cheesecake. I loved the lychee sherbet...powerful flavor and I couldn't stop eating it. The sweet potato cheesecake had good flavor if you really like sweet potato, but I thought it was a little dry. I would absolutely come back and try other dishes and drinks. Also the bartender, Sarah, was so lovely, made us feel welcomed and I loved her vibe.

I've never been a mushroom girl until I've had their mushroom skewers. I can never help myself and order 5 or 6. When it comes to drinks, I love their entire menu. I typically go with the no need for uber: a mocktail that's the perfect shout of sweetness. I really appreciate all the love and artistry that goes into every aspect of this restaurant. Can't wait to go back!

The energy is lively without being overwhelming, making it a fun place to hang out or grab a quick bite. The food is the real star here. The ramen is rich and satisfying, and the add-ons are especially flavorful--they genuinely elevate the bowl rather than feeling like an afterthought. Everything comes out fresh and well put together. Service is another strong point. The servers are attentive, friendly, and impressively fast, so you're never left waiting too long even when it's busy. And if you're in a rush or want to enjoy it at home, Mecha does an excellent job with takeout--the food travels well and still tastes great. All in all, Mecha is a consistently solid ramen spot with great food, great music, and a fun, upbeat atmosphere that keeps you coming back.

We got pho tai and pho ga. Barely any meat which is a disgrace. One good thing, their noodles were chewy and I haven't had much experience with chewy rice noodles. The appetizer edamame was good. Not Asian but still good. Service was decent. It did take a while for the food to come out. And they were busy so I acknowledge that.

The space is absolutely beautiful: modern, bright, and spotless. The food was fresh, flavorful, and came out piping hot. They bring each dish out as it's ready instead of all at once, so keep that in mind if you like everything served together. Personally, I didn't mind because it just meant my soup was perfect when it arrived, and my son's appetizer followed shortly after. I didn't check out the bathrooms this time, but judging by the rest of the restaurant, I'm sure they're just as immaculate. Black Bamboo is the only Chinese food I'll eat, period. If you know me, you know I'm picky, and this place never disappoints. Every bite tastes fresh, the service is friendly, and the vibe is always calm and inviting. Over the years I have had everything on the menu, and I've never had a bad meal. My personal favorites: the egg rolls, scallion pancakes, hot and sour soup and their fried rice, which I honestly think is the best in the world, period. My son is all about their beef teriyaki and it's his go-to every single time. This is exactly the kind of place where you can try something new and know it's going to be good. I recently ordered the chop suey and egg foo young for the first time ever, and both were fantastic. If you've been curious to branch out, this is where you want to do it; you can't go wrong. Also, they have real duck sauce for a small upcharge. Not just stuff in the packet (yuck). So if you're craving Chinese food in West Hartford, go to Black Bamboo. You'll taste the quality, feel the difference, and probably end up like me... a loyal regular who can't eat Chinese anywhere else.

They recently opened a new location on Farmington Ave in West Hartford, but this spot is east of the old location. The new digs are nice inside. The dining room is not huge, but it's roomier than the old dining room. You still order at the counter even if you're dining in. Over the years, most of my food orders probably fall within the 4.25 Star to 4.5 Star range for a takeout type Chinese restaurant. Occasionally, they'll dip a bit lower or soar a bit higher. My General Tso's Chicken Combo meal with broccoli, pork fried rice and a fried shrimp egg roll was trending towards 4.5 Stars, but fell a bit short so I'm going to round down to 4 Stars since I can't give half Star ratings. The chicken was good quality and well cooked. The sauce was a bit sweet and sour-leaning on the General Tso's Spectrum. The shrimp egg roll was very good. It had two medium size shrimp rather than a bunch of mini shrimp. Pro Tip - I like the pork egg roll at a lot of places, but Shrimp is definitely the way to go at Black Bamboo. The pork fried rice was tan, which I mention because I always prefer places with the tan rice to places with the yellow rice. I've ordered a range of things at Black Bamboo over the years. Their sauces are not always like the sauces at other places. And what I really like about Black Bamboo is each Black Bamboo sauce tastes different than its other sauces. At other takeout places, a few different named sauces are just vaguely brown, sweet and spicy. Black Bamboo is one of the better takeout Chinese options in Hartford County. 4.4 Stars

So we made the trek to find this shop. The plaza this place is in was doing some construction, so I had to go by the flag outside to find them. Inside is a little basic but clean. The cashier was very nice and helpful. Explained the coloring system and the order. Got my food to go, picked up some sweets at the local sweets shop next door. Took pics and tried some bites. The dumplings were made fresh, perfectly thin and cooked well. Ample amounts of filling and sweet and spicy dipping sauces. They offer very fancy dumplings like foie gras or truffles with morelles. I opted for chicken and corn along with some beef bao. Everything was pretty tasty and pretty reasonably priced. For the two orders of dumplings and the bao came out to 24 bucks. Pretty affordable and pretty good bites. It's not a pretty location, but they do good dumplings to go. Worth a try if your off the beaten path and have a hankerin for done good dumplings.
