Boneless spareribs and pork fried rice. My son's favorite.

This is a family favorite and our go to place for a good Chinese or Szechuan. Sometimes the service can feel a little bit rushed but other than that, it's always a nice experience. Food is very good. Good dinner with a nice pot of green tea.

I was told that "this place is where to go" for Szechuan. So after along drive home on Labor Day, this is where we decided to stop and eat. The restaurant is big...lots of seating and an extensive menu. My wife did some research on what to order, during the car ride over. We arrived around 7pm, and the place was busy. The woman who greeted and sat us, seemed in charge. Like a Drill Instructor, she bossed the staff around, and they were quick to move. We ordered Shrimp Toast App, Heavenly Chicken and Cumin Lamb. The Shrimp Toast arrived in under 3 minutes. It was good, but not great. Cumin Lamb was really tasty and the right amount of heat. Heavenly Chicken was more of this earth, rather than the after life. Their Hot Mustard is a little vinegar heavy, which was a bummer. Their mild chocolate fortune cookies were a surprise; and a first. My friend goes here a lot, and loves it. I should circle back with him, and get some hints on what to order next time.

This place is one of my favorites in NJ. It is in the same area as Willowbrook mall and has an amazing lunch special, but we have come here for both lunch and dinner. We always get the same 2 dishes - 1) shredded pork with Peking sauce and 2) eggplant with garlic sauce. It is such an amazing combination to have both dishes and rice. I would highly recommend getting this combo when you go!

Came here last week for a birthday. Always on the lookout for an outstanding Chinese place and this place met the mark. The ambiance was nice. The food was remarkable. Better than I've had at any other place. In the middle of dining the power went out so we happened to go without a/c for half of the meal during 100 degree weather which was a journey itself. The found was so enjoyable that I looked past that and carried on.

This place had always been on my list. Unfortunately, it was only open until 9 PM and we arrived around 8. By the time we got settled, we felt rushed while dining. They mentioned they had low foot traffic that day, so they were planning to close early, and after that, we couldn't really enjoy the food. That said, the ambience was really nice. The restaurant serves cuisine from the Sichuan region of China, and if you're planning to try their Sichuan dishes, just be prepared--they're spicy and mouth‑numbing, but in a good way! We ordered two of their popular dishes: Spicy Cumin Lamb Triple Pepper Chicken Both were amazing and very different from typical Chinese dishes. Their Sichuan flavors are really good and that set them apart from regular Chinese restaurants. Aside from the "we're closing soon" pressure, the food was amazing. I'll try their Lunch menu soon

Great food and service. Plenty of vegetarian options. Veg dumplings- fried and crisp- hard to mess these up Veg Fried Rice- great flavor right ratio of rice to veg- dont want it overpowered with too many veggies haha General Tso Tofu- these were fresh and crisp too- def not a dish for takeaway or delivery else you miss the texture Spicy Cumin Tofu- unique dish great savory contrast to the other tofu dish Chinese Broccoli- I think these are seasonal Worth the visit if you are vegetarian!

Ordered food from here today. Was absolutely amazing. Everything tasted incredible. Moo shu chicken with the pancake and sauce sublime. Egg drop and wonton soup very tasty. Will definitely be ordering food from here again, can't wait to try more things on the menu.

Was on a hunt for authentic Chinese food, particularly the fried flounder, and Chengdu didn't disappoint. The egg drop soup with minced beef (Westlake soup) was light and comforting. Enjoyed the pan-fried flounder with ginger and scallion soy sauce, Yang Chow fried rice, and Chinese broccoli. BF loved the spicy cumin lamb; it's not my favorite, but he finished it. Service was prompt and friendly despite being busy on a Saturday night.

When I came to the restaurant in the middle of the afternoon on a Friday, there were about 15 patrons and plenty of seating available. I was greeted with a kettle filled with hot tea. The wonton soup was not the best I've had. It was very hot but did not come with noodles. The interior meat for one of the three wontons was very chewy - almost fatty. I ordered the healthy special shrimp with vegetables H4. It came out very quickly. The dish came with white rice. The brown sauce was thick - just like I love it! The meal was good and a decent size. I had to take the tails off of the shrimp, which isn't one of my more enjoyable tasks! It would be something I would order again. The meal with a soda was about $26. Not bad. Overall, it was a positive experience. I would come here again.

easily the best chinese food in the area and cheng du is so popular in my house that even my toddler gets excited when we are going. so far everything we've tried has been delicious. all of the typical american chinese dishes are heavenly (general tsos's, beef and broccoli, etc.) but their pork fried rice is definitely our #1 must get dish. i also love the chinese broccoli or pea shoots (both prepared sauteed with garlic). Bright, fresh, garlicky greens make me feel less guilty about eating a fried egg roll. The interior is warm and cozy; great for large groups and sharing plates if that is your style. Most recently we got to try the soup dumpings or juicy buns and they might be my new favorite item.

Hands down the best Chinese food in the area. It's been highly rated for many years. The location is tucked away in the corner of a strip mall near the Willowbrook Mall. It has a good amount of seating if you are dining in. The service is quick if they are really busy. Top dishes for me are the General Tso chicken, sesame chicken, and fried rice. Portions are a good size and prices are pretty standard. Definitely stop in for lunch or dinner if you are at the Willowbrook Mall.

Cheng Du is so good that it's patronized by the Chinese people in the area, many of whom I see have posted strong opinions about whether it's Szechuan enough for them, I guess. I've never had a bad meal here, take out or dine-in. It's deeply layered flavor, whether you're ordering something spicy or not. My heavenly chicken had a garlicky brown sauce that's great with rice, and even a plain dish like tofu soup is gorgeously tinged with alliums for a delicate flavor on the palate. We were in there at 2:30p on a Saturday and at least ten other groups were inside. I'd bring anyone I knew here. I just wish it were closer to my house!

Great spot to come with family. There may be a line because it seems to be a quite popular spot but once we got seated, service was fairly quick. Everything we ordered was delicious!

The restaurant's dining room was still spacious and nicely adorned, and they even had a lovely outdoor patio, though it overlooked an Acme parking lot. Our server was a delight and completely went above and beyond for us. The food, however, was mediocre. The Pork Soup Dumplings were our favorite item, as their broth and meat were extremely flavorful. However, about two of the six had holes in them, so some of the soup had escaped before they were even removed from their bamboo steamer. The Spicy Chicken Dumplings came in a generous portion of ten, but the fiery poultry inside had a strong "chicken" flavor, if that makes sense. Lastly, we had the Chicken Chow Fun, which was extremely bland and full of gummy noodles. That chicken was tender and had a better flavor, though. I just looked back at my last review to see that we had ordered the same noodle dish previously, and, while it similarly had very little sauce on it, the plate had been much more enticing back then. I also saw a bunch of gnats flying around near our table, which was not appetizing, but in fairness, it was a very hot evening. Despite our mixed experience, the dishes being delivered to neighboring tables all looked amazing. I would like to think it was just an off-night and would be willing to give the place another shot.

Hot Fish is one of the few places that brings us right back. The flavors are incredibly authentic, vibrant, and memorable. The Crispy Basa Filet is our absolute favorite and the Mapo Tofu is another must. What started as a lucky find has become a restaurant we crave and keep coming back to. Highly recommend!

I haven't been to many Szechuan Chinese restaurants but Hot Fish is easily the best Chinese food in NJ by a long shot. I'm vegetarian so can't comment on meat dishes but the salt & pepper tofu is out of this world (though if you get it via takeout be mindful of the white doily-style round paper on the bottom of the plastic container which I assume is there to soak up excess oil, but is not edible). I'm going to Hot Fish for takeout today and will be getting the salt & pepper tofu dish as well as their Kung Pao tofu which I'm excited to try. The garlic flavored broccoli is spectacular and may be my favorite dish. It somehow tastes even better reheated the next day (the sauce probably gets absorbed more). Ordering at least two of those -- the garlic sauce used in it is truly unique and remarkably delectable. If you're not a fan of mushrooms you need to request no "fungus" as that's how they refer to mushrooms. The veggie fried rice is as good as I've ever had and I love that it's served white rather than the typical soy sauce stained brown fried rice that's much more common. The egg & scallion fried rice is also wonderful and doesn't contain any fungus, unlike the veggie fried rice. Be sure to try the marinated cucumber appetizer. It has a warm, numbing spice to it and is absolutely fantastic. Edemame is good. Sauteed green beans are remarkably good -- almost as good as the garlic broccoli. Come to think of it, I haven't had a bad dish yet. Or even one that wasn't above average. This place is legitimately amazing. Authentic, consistent, and an exceptional dining experience. If I could better express just how much I love the food at Hot Fish I would, I simply lack the descriptive language needed to properly convey just how wonderful the flavor combinations and perfectly textured veggies and tofu taste and leave you feeling after the meal is finished. The chef(s) and kitchen staff are truly talented and consistent, the latter being extremely important as most people want to have the same dish when they find one they love and return to the restaurant again. Inconsistency can really hurt a restaurant and one's desire to eat there again. My only criticism is that Hot Fish isn't closer to my home, because I would genuinely like to eat their at least once a week if not more but since it's over 30 minutes away it makes eating their regularly more difficult. But it has always been well worth the trip. So glad this place opened -- it's the best Chinese food in the NYC/NJ area and has quickly become my favorite restaurant. I'm surprised the current Yelp rating is only 4.2/5.0, though that is very good score and you can't please everyone especially with spicy food which some Americans just aren't accustomed to. I'm interested in how the rating will change over time since they've been open for less than a year. The photo is of salt & pepper tofu and you can see the white doily I mentioned earlier, though with takeout its almost completely hidden when th container is full. While I haven't eaten there myself, my family has and they said the food is even better when you eat there and remarked that the atmosohere is very nice, clean, comfortable, and doesn't have any obnoxious attributes like extremely loud music or lighting so faint you can't see your food. All in all a wonderful addition to the Bergen county food scene and a blessing for those who DO like it HOT (spicy)!
