I went to the restaurant with my boyfriend and another couple to celebrate my birthday and another person's birthday. Unfortunately, there was nothing offered or done for either birthday. Our waitress was a Colombian woman who provided us with information about the sushi. However, when we went to pay, she became very upset and complained about the fact that we had left only a $10 tip. I found her behavior extremely disrespectful and unprofessional. I believe it is inappropriate for a server to confront or complain to customers about the amount of their tip. Tips are at the customer's discretion and should never be demanded or used as a reason to make a customer feel uncomfortable. I was very surprised by her attitude, especially because she was representing the restaurant. In my opinion, her behavior and customer service were unacceptable, and experiences like this can negatively affect the restaurant's reputation and cause customers to not want to return. I came to celebrate my girlfriend's and cousin's birthdays. Although I informed the restaurant staff about the occasion, nothing was done to make the dinner feel more special. Our bill was [ \$185 ] for a sushi boat. I had planned to leave a [ \$20 ] tip, but I was surprised to see a [ \$9 ] credit-card processing charge. Because of that unexpected fee, I decided to leave a [ \$10 ] tip instead. Our server a colombian lady was helpful in explaining the menu, but service was slow. Since our order consisted mainly of one sushi boat and four waters, I felt that the [ \$10 ] tip was appropriate under the circumstances. However, the server confronted me about the tip in front of my family, which made an already disappointing evening very uncomfortable. I understand that tipping is important, but confronting a customer over a gratuity is unprofessional and should not happen--especially during a family celebration. I was so pleasantly surprised to find out not only does this place offer a massive (non-sushi) menu, but it's absolutely fabulous! I recently got to enjoy dinner here, but as a non-sushi eater realized I wish I would've came sooner! The ambiance was such a good vibe, and our server Marissa was simply excellent. I've been to Sushi Lounge and it's my favorite sushi place in the area. In all of the times I've been here, I've never sat outside! This was my first and definitely not the last. They have a cute setup on the side of the building with a full bar, DJ and plenty of seating. As always the food and drinks were on point. Sushi Lounge is usually a good spot for last minute plans for a some apps and drinks. The place is nice casual. The crowd varies. I usually don't have issues when I go, but this time around the roll (naurato) was extremely "fishy". I always order this roll and it's usually good but this time the fish tasted bad & I had to send it back. The staff seem to be changing because there were some new faces behind the bar. I was kind of shocked that I got up to go speak to someone and the bartender (not even the one I was dealing with) came up to me rudely saying she needed my card because I can't leave the bar area (when I literally was at the table behind the actual bar) without it when no2 asked me for a card prior. I had no issues with that, but there was no need to be rude about it and speak to me as if I was going to skip out on my bill. When I closed out my tab I noticed they overcharged me and never took off the roll that was sent back and for an additional drink. She had to go back and adjust it. We also ordered crispy rice which is always my fav. The beef wonton soup I wasn't a fan of, it was way too smoky I didn't like the flavor. The rolls we ordered were good. Rock n rolla was my fav. Ok I really wanted to like the food but here's what happened We ordered the Gyoza and Calamari/Shrimp as apps, the Gyoza seemed to be fresh the fried calamari/shrimp were frozen and tasteless We all ordered sushi I ordered 2 handrolls one was eel and cucumber the other was salmon and avocado which the waitress corrected me and called it an Alaska roll. An Alaska roll is a California roll topped with salmon or its smoked salmon and avocados. Neither of these are what I wanted or recieved. What I got was horrible! They let the Temaki sit so they were soggy and the Nori was disintegrating in my hand. Then I ordered a quail egg on top of Masago- this was disgusting as they didn't yolk the quail egg. (Separating the egg) Then insult to injury they put someone else's sushi on my plate and did nothing to correct it. The service wasn't bad, pretty sure it was Danielle from Whippany serving us.
