Great food and good portions for a reasonable price. Steak burrito it the go to move but all is yummy

This is my last visit. I love the food but I asked for a small side of guacamole and was charged $9. I should have been told it was going to be almost as much as the BURRITO for half of a smashed avocado with a little onion. Not acceptable. It was bad enough that their menu says guacamole is included in some things but when they serve it, it's not...and they just shrug. (These pix are from last time, when that happened.) So this time, I ordered a SMALL SIDE and this is what happened. I questioned the bill, and was told it was correct with no shame. Unbelievable. I am truly angry. Sad to have to cross off a favorite but this is not how you treat customers. read more

I got the burrito bowl and it was a smash. My son got the taco dinner. Perfect size for a little guy. Prices were reasonable and food was delicious. We even had leftovers. They also give you free chips. If we're ever in the area again we'll be back. read more

ZERO stars. OMG what a rip off. I was hungry for a burrito and I have not been to this place since Covid. Cost of my burrito was 18.37 and the meat ratio and taste were VERY wrong. I had my burrito cut in half and of course I got the end with little meat and all end rolled tortilla and extra no meat add ons. Shame on ownership for being cheap. Shady, shady, shady practices at this establishment. I should have learned my lesson the first time with their overpriced yet small items, but I decided to try them again. I was in a hurry to get in and out with my order and so it wasn't until I got home and had a chance to look at my receipt was when I realized I was charged $15 more than what is quoted on their online menu! Even GrubHub has the same prices as their online menu! I realized I should have read some of the other Yelp reviews where others explicitly mention this routine practice of theirs. So shady! I called the establishment and mentioned what happened. I was told the owner increases their prices, but they haven't had a chance to update the menu online. I requested to speak with the manager, but there was none available. (According to other yelpers management says they can change the menu as they please.) By the way, the front staff is very kind and efficient. The servers are very sweet. Menu online states chilled rellano burritos at $6.50 each. I ordered two and they charged me $18! $5 difference there. Steak taco dinner was supposed to be $9.50, I was charged $9.99. $0.49 difference there. Veggie tostadas state they are $3.50 each, yet I was charged $11.98 for two! $4.98 increase there. Avocado torta was supposed to be $4.99, was charged $7.99. $2.99 there. They couldn't even uphold the Mexican Nacho price at $8.25. They charged me $8.50! The food was definitely not worth the prices. At all. They barely put any steak in my daughter's tacos, the nachos were over fried, and the burritos were small and lacking. The torta and tostadas were decent, but not worth it at their menu prices. I have yet to find a good, authentic Mexican place in these south suburbs. Looks like I'll have to continue heading to Cicero, Berwyn, or Brookfield to get my fix. I don't know what people expect from a "fast food" Mexican joint. Their prices are not any different than its competitors, the food is actually seasoned very well and portions are generous, staff is friendly, and wait time is short. One thing I would really love if they did is wash their windows and get rid of the dust by the front entrance. Their decor really needs to be updated. read more

Disgusting, overpriced, shady business. Overcharged for less than mediocre food. $5 for a side of cheese. Ordered steak tacos and instead got a skirt steak with tortillas on the side. Why would I order tacos to make them myself ?!??!! $10 for a 'guac' (literally just avocado, no seasoning whatsoever). Bistec ala mexicana was repulsive, I actually started dry heaving Awful and shady service, front speaks little english, and when confronted about prices on our receipt being different than the online menu and Grubhub prices. According to other yelpers this is a common practice from this establishment. When we confronted the woman at the front she claimed prices had gone up but managers hadn't had a chance to update prices, which is obvious BS because reviews say that's been their claim for over 1yr. This place is a Diamond in the rough in Homer Glen. 12 years eating here and not once have I had a bad experience. The food is really good regardless of what you order. Every time I take a friend they say "that was the best .... I've had". The reason why some people leave bad reviews is because this place does authentic not gringo style. our local chenchos burritos been here over almost 10 years now I believe..I haven't been in here probably in about a year I had some lousy service at the time and it's okay we got Mexican restaurants around the whole area but I really had a taste for an old-fashioned steak burrito or as I like to call it the log Style.. I've had burritos around North America and Canada through the years but there's something about what I grew up with after underage drinking and partying going to burritoville and having the classic El famos burrito near summit Illinois or down around Southside of Chicago Classic places. chenchos is a small storefront style facility they don't use up a whole lot of storefront they have for the most part bilingual staff sometimes you have to explain a few things even after all this time they're not full-blown perfect English. you can die then and have anything non-alcoholic but the plates and platters aren't too bad although I just like the old school burritos here. they take all credit card the reason any place in this little strip mall does not have alcohol or even allowed a BYOB permit is because of the preschool that sits directly next door to it it's a Homer Glen thing they do not want any alcohol served at close to a preschool which is a good thing for the most part I suppose.. parking can be really tight because right next door although Papa John's is gone oh well there is to Golden Sun Chinese restaurant there's a cleaners and a couple more things over here in this little strip. I had my usual steak burrito with a little bit of beans added cheese sour cream perfect I don't like lettuce and tomato on a burrito I like them on tacos and tostadas but this is the way I grew up with steak burritos back in the day some 30-plus years ago what I discovered them along with a bunch of other party friends when we were youths LOL... the burrito was fantastic like it always is they give you lots of steak and I shall post a couple of pictures there of what a classic Chicago style burrito is the main thing is to white Chihuahua cheese a lot of places use cheddar cheese or American no no no that's not authentic... shame on thee wow I do not like the other varieties around my area to I do enjoy the burritos here I will probably come back again I probably get it to go so I can have a cold one is home but none the less it looks like they're still doing really good keep up the good work. some of the reviews of do reflect sometimes I get really busy and things tend to get slow sometimes you call it a phone order in the ETA isn't quite right, 20 minutes and get their 20 minutes later you wait an extra 10 minutes but it is what it is. read more

Food is mediocre and the service is terrible. Ordered food (2 burritos and quac) 45 minutes prior to picking it up and still waited for at least 35 minutes when I got there. I love Mexican food and I'm pretty easy to please in terms of taste, but this place was awful. The streak burrito was $6.50, a fair price, and a good size. The taste was extremely bland. The most flavor I got from this burrito was the tortilla. The most interesting texture was the steak feeling like rubber. The restaurant is pretty clean. They were good at cleaning up right after a customer leaves. The problem was the lemon smell of pinesol over powering the smell of my streak burrito. Service wasn't the best since she wasn't helpful or polite. In her defense, she worked the register, took care of 3 groups, cleaned the tables, and would go to the back to possibly do more work. So it could of been a bad day, but they definitely understaff. I was a part of a group of four and we were all displeased. We were charged 2.50 for little hot sauce, the bottle of coke was 2.50, we were charged 15% gratuity, and they were unable to split our check. I have been here before but this time I made sure to yelp about it. I came in to order take out and I ordered 3 steak tacos with Mexican rice and beans with a large horchata. I came at a busy time with many tables being served, as well as two gentlemen in front of me in line. It took about 12 minutes for my food to be ready but it was worth the wait. The steak in my tacos was good just right and they put just the right amount of cheese. Although it usually comes with Mexican rice, they ran out of the orange rice so I substituted with white rice instead. It was still very good mixed in with green beans and carrots. The whole meal is very authentic and not too expensive so I'll mostly likely come back for more. read more

Taco Tuesday Disaster! Understanding the times we're in I had the pleasure of waiting 40 minutes in a line outside for an order I placed 40 minutes earlier. They don't take names when they place your order, they walk outside and shout the order. The funny part is they call out the order by menu number. "Who has the #9, #12 and a coke?" Hell, I have no idea what that is, I ordered a taco dinner! A lot of angry people here tonight, many leaving before they picked up their food. In fact, my wife was hung up on twice by the staff when attempting to see if the order was ready. I have been coming here for years, tolerating the so-so service. No can do anymore due to the lack of service and the amateur nature of their ordering system. Tip for Mr. Chencho, take a name when an order is placed, it alleviates a LOT of confusion and you don't irritate your customers (of whom you lost quite a few tonight). Update: I left but the Mrs. got fired up so we went back, she wanted her tacos! She walked past the line, spoke to the woman who hung up on her and asked for the status of the order. Popped in here after a family hike turned into a need to refuel and a quick Yelp search. Don't let the small storefront fool you; table service is available. It was quite packed when we arrived but service was quick and friendly. Food was authentic (I'm Hispanic and it could've easily been my mom in the kitchen making the rice). We had tamales and flautas dinners and because the portions were so generous; we have leftovers for a second meal. We'll definitely be back the next time we swing through the area! Best place around. Idk what people are talking about when they say "went downhill" or something g along those lines but they have had and still have the best authentic Mexican food around. Wish the steaks didn't get so pricy (used be like $12 now it's like $19 for carne Zamora) and the service isn't 100% on key but hey it's freaking delicious and like nothing I've ever had! Pro-tip: speak clearly (much of the staff English is their second language) and ask for "pico de gello" on your burrito. Nice little establishment. Interior is clean and nicely decorated, a tray of chips present at every table, and the service is prompt. From the outside the establishment looks fairly small and almost shady. That mood changes entirely when you walk in. Best burritos and steak I've ever had! Great little place with a cozy atmosphere and fantastic flavors. Possibly the best mexican in the area. Menu can be a bit intimidating but they have some delicious fare beyond the usual go-to tacos and burritos (which are of course, quite excellent). If you like spicy, give the Lomo En Chile De Arbol a try. Or the Carne Zamora. Used to be a 5-star spot, but sadly, at some point the prices started going up and the portions started going down. It never seems to affect their business though. read more
