    CALIFORNICATION - burrito
    Jose R.

I'm not from the area, and I was in a Mexican feeling. I spontaneously picked this place to satisfy my palette. I arrived at 8:30, and the place was empty. It looked like they were closing for the day even though they are open until 10pm. The chips and salsa were nothing too extraordinary, for the chips were flakey, flimsy, but firm. My food took about 25 minutes to be brought out, but the quality was the same as a fast food restaurant. They also serve limes as 1/8, rather than 1/4

    Traditional margarita. Just okay.

Zap! has some unique taco selections that definitely stray from the traditional Mexican staples found at countless of other restaurants scattered throughout the city and burbs. I remember when I was a kid, when the first Taco Bell opened in our neighborhood (yes, I'm that old), and that was everyone's first exposure to "Mexican Food". Well, we've come a long way since then, and I've learned the difference between traditional tacos, and what is often referred to as "Gringo Tacos" (lettuce, cheese & tomatoes). I would say that Zap! Taco House has elevated the gringo taco to the next level, but sometimes more variety isn't always better variety. The Red Skull & Vigilante tacos were both very good, with the Red Skull taco being the only one I would make a return trip for. The John Popper and Hot Honey Crispy Shrimp tacos were very ordinary, for lack of a better word. Not bad, just not as exciting as their descriptions suggested. The chips and salsa were fine. The margaritas were fine. There was nothing wrong with anything during our experience... the service was prompt and friendly. The place was really cool inside - with a whole comic book vibe that was well executed and really fun. I think the main issue with Zap! is that the menu descriptions and the overall cool vibe kind of overshadowed the actual taste of the food and drinks.... I really wanted the food to be as good as the place looked, and as the menu described, and it wasn't bad - per se - but it was just fine. There are many places with much better tacos closer to our home.

great marg menu & can be made NA! would love to see go brewing or athletic included in their lineup too!

Such a fun upbeat spot! Great veggie/pescaterian options & modifications. Drinks can be made NA. Portion size was a good value & not overwhelming or wasteful. Lovely staff, great service & will be back w/friends! Looking for more local spots like this!

We walked in and was seated right away. Staff was very friendly and welcoming. Food was great! I had the red skull taco and a shrimp and hot honey taco. Also I had an elote. Over this place was a lot better than I expected. Very clean. And the waitresses are great. Definitely will come back when I'm in the area.

10/10 experience. Great staff, shout out to Allie our server for being the real MVP and making great recommendations. Cool atmosphere. Burrito bowl was filling and had all the toppings. Company enjoyed the tacos, loaded fries and elotes. Margaritas were great. Will definitely be back!

I've been here twice for lunch I really like it. You get a basket of homemade chips with salsa on the house. Very delicious. The fact that they have an extensive menu with different tacos and flavors is cool. Very tasty. I've had tacos and a bowl. My only complaint was in the bowl I was supposed to have charred corn but it wasn't charred but plain corn is fine. The restaurant has that bar/restaurant feel. Both times I was there there were two waitresses for the lunch crowd so you may have to wait a bit to be waited on but that's ok. You can also eat at the bar. The artwork is fun too. Superhero themed.

Wonderfully seasoned, stuffed generously, and priced in a way that makes you feel like you are getting away with something. This is the kind of burrito that makes you reconsider every burrito you have had before it. The horchata was so good I was guzzling it like my life depended on it. Cold, creamy, perfectly spiced. And the choco flan was my personal highlight of the meal. Rich, silky, and deeply satisfying in that way only a great flan can be. We visited on the Fourth of July, and despite some visible storm damage the team was actively working to repair, the restaurant had a steady and loyal stream of locals coming through without pause. The restaurant is a humble place in a strip mall. It does have a Mexican vibe with all of the decorations. They weren't very busy so having tables that weren't cleaned was not a good look. That's the ONLY SEASONING I tasted on the beans and rice. The chicken was bland and no fresh AT ALL! My quesadilla barely had cheese! Friends! You have to stop in and have a meal at this very nice spot!…read more It has been in Mokena, IL for 2 years. We went early afternoon on a weekday, so there was no wait, and the place was almost empty. The water came in an adorable carafe, with 6 oz "shot glasses". I found it to be so cute! And it was just enough water for sipping. It was iced cold. I believe we were just thirst and drank it all, lol. Free to the table- House Chips and Salsa. Simple and straight to the point. Ok, to the good stuff! Starters/App: We ordered a "Salsa Flight". It is just what it sounds like, a flight of assorted salsas. There were 6. Great for sharing, not big portions. It ranged from sweet, smokey, fruity, savory, to spicy baby! Of course it came with tortilla chips. So, so good! We also ordered Birria Egg Rolls. Friends!!! Delightfully yummers! Crisp on the outside, cheesy and meaty inside. The cooks were creating magical bites for me this day. lol Very good bites. I ordered a Pina-Colada Margarita. This sip was DELICIOUSNESS. Omg! Like....fresh, and powerful, yet well balanced. TASTY SIPS FRIENDS! I ordered what was like a Taco/loaded steak potato with all the trimmings (cheese, steak pico, sour cream). That is what came on it. There were other option of meats. Because I was so focused, I don't even recall what my date ate. HA! But I will say that my potato was not the best. It was over and under cooked. You are probably wondering like "HOW IS THAT"? Well, the potato was not cooked all the way through(hard pieces), but it was burnt at the bottom of the potato (images to come). That was disappointing. The starters/apps were so tasty, I ended up not finishing the potato, but I was saddened that they served the potato knowing the shape it was in. The meat and cheese and such couldn't even hide it once you moved the toppings to the side. Now, don't let my unhappy potato stop you from checking this place out. I am looking forward to bring my family back, and a few friends. If off sips and chips alone, its a place to get familiar with. Finally had a chance, and I will return. As always, you don't have to take my word for it, go get you some!

It was a weekday afternoon, so there weren't many patrons dining in when we arrived. The host greeted us warmly and chose a seat near the front window. I believe our waitress was also the bartender. She was friendly and attentive. I had the chicken tinga and steak tacos. My mom just had a single ground beef taco. The tacos were okay. The food was decent, but I can't say that it was memorable or something I'd want to eat again. It definitely wasn't authentic or anything close to what you'd be served in Mexico, Pilsen, or Back of the Yards. The restaurant was clean and cozy though. The service was also excellent, so that was a plus. Maybe stop in for a drink or the chips and guac instead of the food. The bill was about $32 plus tip ($10).

My husband ordered a tea, but what they brought out definitely wasn't tea. Even the staff seemed unsure of what it actually was they knew it didn't taste right, and my husband immediately knew it wasn't what he ordered. After that, our tacos were wonderful as always, the atmosphere was great, and our server was extremely attentive and quick to respond to our concerns honestly a great server. The disappointing part came with a couple food items. I ordered the Mexican street corn appetizer and it tasted like the corn wasn't fresh and wasn't served very warm. It looked like it just had a dollop of chipotle mayo and a little cheese on top, but the corn itself felt like it had been sitting for a day or two. Our beans were also served barely at room temperature, and when the replacement beans were brought out, they were so hot it felt like they were just microwaved quickly. It just gave the impression that the kitchen maybe wasn't fully prepared for the day yet since we were one of the first customers. I really hope this was just an off visit, because we've had great experiences here before.
