Prices went up from last posting. Still good food.

Great service and food is really good but it's on the high side in cost, it use to be affordable a few years ago but that how it is everywhere. Hope this menu update helps.

Steak Tampiquena Taco, chicken enchilada amazing rice and the best beans anywhere in earth.

Fifth time at least and it just gets better and better! Best Mexican around. I am posting pictures of the menu this time too!

Came in looking for a some good authentic food, found a master piece. I walked in and soon as I did I was fretted with a smile. When the waitress found out I couldn't speak Spanish she immediately went to the back and another woman came right out and greeted me in English. I sat at the tab and within seconds I had my drink, chips and 2 different salsas. After 5-8 minutes I had my food, all the while the waitress is checking on me. My food was delicious, everything was excatly how I wanted. I can whole heartily say this was the best experience I have had and will be coming back then next time I travel from Georgia.

Chicken fajitas, Mexican rice, lettuce/tomato/avacado garnish (I substituted avacado instead of beans)

Great food, the Tampiquena is amazing! The dining area is a bit small but rarely packed and the service is always quick.

Fue tan malo que las comidas que pedí a través de Uber Eats se dejaron caer y solo terminé con un pedido final de guacamole y una soda por $27; los chips estaban rancios. Así que, ¿estás cobrando $27 por chips rancios y una soda? Adios huevona There is a reason why this place has only two stars. We're new in town and I would absolutely never order from them again.. it was bad enough that the meals I ordered via Uber eats dropped off and I only ended up with a final order of guacamole and a soda for $27, the chips were stale. So you're charging somebody $27 for stale chips and one soda.

I didn't even take pictures because the presentation was quite basic. The carne Asada was not seasoned well and the chicken had us a bit perplexed as to how it was prepared. It was helpful, adding the salsa, but I can't say I would return here if I was in town. the service was was just OK at one point our waitress left and never came back. The ambience was very casual with plenty of seating in the restaurant for big and small groups. I'm always glad to try new places and it was good to try Mexican food in another state to give some perspective.

I'm actually sitting here eating as I write this review, which should tell you something…read more I drove an hour to take care of some business at the DMV, or as y'all in Illinois like to call it, the "Secretary of State." I guess DMV wasn't a prestigious enough title. After finishing up there, I was hungry and decided to give El Comal a shot. I walked in with fairly low expectations and walked out questioning why this place is an hour away from my house. The interior was clean, the staff was welcoming, and the food was genuinely excellent. Nothing fancy or overcomplicated, just good food done right. I highly recommend the asada huarache. Destiny, one of the staff members, recommended it to me, and I have to say, it really was destiny. Some things are just meant to be, and apparently, me eating this huarache was one of them. An hour is a long way to travel for a meal, but I can confidently say I'll be making this trip again. Whether it's my monthly excuse for a road trip or I'm simply passing through, El Comal has earned itself a returning customer. I came here to take care of business with the State of Illinois, but the best decision I made all day had nothing to do with the DMV. And for once, I left a place in Illinois feeling like my time and money were well spent. Thank you, Destiny, and the entire El Comal team. You've given me a reason to drive an hour that doesn't involve government paperwork.

It gets the job done - the Burrito had some excitment, but the rest of the experience left…read moresomething to be desired. I'd ordered a Steak Diablo Burrito and a Margarita. Chips and salsa were complimentary at the start of the meal. Before you come after me for looking a gift horse in the mouth: Chips & Salsa aren't technically free, the cost is baked into the meal on the back-end. That said, the quality of these was subpar. The chips were straight out of a bag, the the salsa resembled a thick tomato juice with stuff added more than something deserving the name "salsa." I also did not love the Margarita, for it was too sweet for my taste. I can't say for sure, but I have the unfounded suspicion that these are pre-made in large quantities. The main event was the Steak Diablo Burrito. True to form, the Diablo sauce brought the heat. If you are one for whom Tabasco sauce is at the upper end of your limits, you might want to skip this one. My heat tolerance is such that I needed a little extra water, not a side-order of sour cream. The filling did not skimp on the meat whatsoever, and the protein was tender to boot. While not 'S' tier, I would put it solidly in 'B' territory, with a pinky toe into 'A'. A good test is that I couldn't finish, and happily devoured it cold the next day. The interior is large, and has mostly amber lighting with splashes of color, and some traditional-looking architectural elements. The service was friendly and reasonably fast. Final verdict: If you're itching for a great burrito, while perhaps not the greatest one in the world, La Mex can deliver. However, This comes at a cost of a too-sweet Margarita and chips and salsa leave something to be desired. Recommended? Yes, as a general-purpose Mexican spot. Would Return? Yes, but would skip chips, salsa, and margs.

Fast and friendly service. Fun and colorful Mexican decor. Plenty of salsa with chips served…read morecomplimentary, but the salsa and everything else is very adapted to the taste of white people. Hardly any spice. My enchiladas with green sauce and my husband's with a mole sauce tasted like both sauces came from a bottle. Not bad, but not great, especially if you are hoping for authentic Mexican food.
