Didn't bother to call us back after looking at our project. If it was too small a job for them why not just tell us?

Prime Design & Build - Amazing bathroom

Prime Design & Build

(62 reviews)

Downtown

I hired Prime to renovate my kitchen - countertops, backsplash, cabinets, electrical, freezer, etc…read more They also helped install a new bidet toilet for me. Overall the experience was very good; Elijah and Bryan were super friendly and responsive. Eli was very patient and accommodating as we discussed several different potential change orders, from new windows to painting, to other misc. things that popped up. Bryan Luna was especially a pleasure to work with. His attention to detail and proactivity to solve any little thing I mentioned was definitely the highlight of working with Prime. Their contracted electrician, Hector, was great as well. I also think they did a great job building out a cabinet to fit our freezer next to the matching fridge. Their master carpenter managed to salvage our existing wood to make it match perfectly. Definitely better than what I'd expect from even a carpentry specialty contractor. I will mention that it wasn't without some snags. Prime deals in volume so they're very busy. I think because I had delays in sourcing a freezer I ended up not getting a dedicated project manager for some time. We had timeline issues made worse with holidays. This caused cascading delays which inevitably pushed back my move in date a few weeks. When I finally did get a new project manager, they ghosted me (later on I found out they had a family emergency). Eli had to step in again to help. Another thing is that their pricing is quite opaque. The estimate will break down prices by milestones, but they repeated told me that it's not a valuation of the milestone itself. This made it nigh impossible to understand if I wanted to contract out specific pieces of the project (e.g. flooring). Design was OK. I felt that the designer was very busy. Sometimes very responsive (5min replies), sometimes not responsive at all (no reply). I wish I had a better, more thorough back-and-forth session about the intricacies of the design. But we made do. Ultimately, the designer made a render and helped point us to some vendors, but from there we had to make our own selection alone (cabinets, handles, pendant lights, faucets, etc.). I did appreciate her presence when we picked out countertops, though. All in all, I think this was a 4.5 star job, but I'm rounding to 5 because of Eli and Bryan :)

We contracted Prime Design & Build to remodel two bathrooms, a laundry room, a staircase, and to…read moreinstall hardwood flooring. Overall, the project went well, and we're happy with the final results. Bryan, our foreman, was a strong asset to the project. Even though he was managing multiple jobs at the same time, his responsiveness and willingness to go out of his way to address our concerns made a big difference. Because we were home throughout the process, we were able to catch issues early and communicate them directly to Bryan, who consistently followed through to resolve them. What Went Well: * The tile and flooring subcontractors were excellent - their craftsmanship and attention to detail truly stood out. * Bryan, our foreman, was responsive to texts and phone calls, listened to our concerns, and made sure they were addressed. He even designed a bi-fold closet door for us, and helped pick up all the material to build it. * Bryan also took the initiative to handle several unfinished items himself, which we really appreciated. * The post-build cleaners were top-notch and left the space in pristine condition. * Throughout the project, everyone we interacted with was professional, courteous, and conscientious. There were no conflicts or issues, which made the experience comfortable for us. Areas for Improvement: * The timeline was a pain point. While we were originally told the project would take 6-8 weeks, it ended up stretching to 12 weeks. * The design process fell short of expectations. Because Prime's in-house designers weren't available, our design work was outsourced. We only received a full design package for the master bathroom. As a result, we ended up creating our own renderings for the other rooms to help communicate our vision to the team. That said, we were very happy with the design and material selections for the master bathroom they did complete. We just wish the same level of attention and design support had been provided for the rest of the project. * At times, resource availability was limited, likely due to workers being assigned to multiple jobs. This led to workflow inefficiencies and delays. Toward the end of our renovation, our foreman Bryan had to personally step in to complete several tasks, such as installing faucets, shelving, and baseboards. He managed to get it done in between site visits and meetings, which we appreciated, but it also highlighted a lack of available crew to close out the project. Despite these few challenges, the quality of the work met our expectations. We appreciated the team's effort and the final outcome.

I (regretfully) did not end up moving forward with them on this project, but wanted to write a review because I was so thoroughly impressed with my interactions with Doron. Doron was the first contractor that I spoke with about my project, and was by far the best experience that I had. He took the time to really look at my space, listened to my needs and specific requests, and gave great suggestions on how I could improve it. After taking measurements he sat down with me for over an hour patiently answering all of my questions. This was my first time considering a major remodel and he was great at anticipating where I would need guidance. He also showed me various completed projects in his portfolio and I was so impressed with the quality of his work. I could tell that he really takes pride in his team and his craftsmanship. Doron was able to provide me with an initial quote on the same day as our consultation. I ended up with further questions and changes, and he graciously set up a zoom call with me to address them the following day. Out of all the contractors that I spoke with, Doron stuck out for being the most passionate about his work and also the most detail oriented. I really appreciated his honesty with me about what I could reasonably expect. As this was my first project, I didn't have a good idea on what to expect regarding costs. I didn't end up moving forward with Method Remodeling because of my budget, but would love to work with them in the future when I am better established.

We were on a tight budget and Method worked with us to create something beautiful within that budget. Our bathroom is now the nicest room in our house! The things that I really appreciated about Method: Communication: weekly meetings, daily updates on the work. It was always clear where we were in the project. Honest and transparent pricing: I think there were several surprises along the way that another contractor would have upcharged us, but Doron often went the extra mile. Extra effort to fix whatever problems came up: All projects have their hiccups and I felt like Doron and his team made every effort to fix whatever came up and work with us to solve problems.

Since we were short on time, we decided to find a new contractor to complete our new house. Masterful jumped in and started construction even before all the design details were finalized because we couldn't afford to waste any time. Atar , the designer, stayed in daily communication with us to finalize the design while the crew, managed by Nur, began work on the rough electrical and plumbing. We genuinely felt like the whole company was focused on us, even though we know they were helping other clients at the same time. We only wish we had met Masterful sooner. When we met Yuvi for the first time, he immediately understood our vision and came up with great ideas and creative ways to make it work within our space. A few days later, Yuvi came back with two detailed quotes and patiently walked us through both options. He answered all our questions and helped us choose what would work best for our home and budget. From there, everything moved smoothly. The permitting took around three weeks, and construction was finished in about two and a half months, right on schedule and with no surprises. We also want to mention Adrian, the designer, who was such a pleasure to work with. He helped us choose all the materials and finishes while staying within our budget. His eye for design and attention to detail made the whole process so much easier and enjoyable. The combination of functionality and style he brought to the project made a huge difference. Throughout the whole process, the crew was respectful, clean, and very professional. They paid attention to every little detail, and it really shows in the final result. Our new master suite looks amazing, and it feels like it has always been part of the house. We are so happy we chose Masterful Construction for this project and would absolutely work with them again in the future.

After talking to a few different firms, Kanika Design just felt like the right fit. Kanika really listened to what we wanted. I've always been a bit nervous about using bold colors, but she pushed us (in a good way!) for a deeper color palette in the main living areas. It looks incredible. Kanika found us so many unique, high-quality furniture pieces that you just won't find at a big-box store. The biggest thing for us was logistics. Once the design process completed, their team handled everything - architectural, permit headache, and construction. Anyone who has done a remodel knows things never go 100% perfectly, but whenever an issue popped up, they were on top of it immediately. They kept the contractors moving and kept us updated on the budget and what was happening next. It's a relief to finally be done after 2 years and have a home that feels like us but way better. I can't recommend Kanika and her team enough. We're still obsessed with how everything turned out.

The pace of the job was very smooth right off the bat and only picked up once the work started. During the design phase the team including Liane were very pleasant to work with. Once the work started, we were very impressed with the site prep as Eli delivered on keeping as much dust out of the the rest of the house. He made sure crew setup plastic sheeting throughout the whole bottom floor with zipper doors included so we could still access the living room and upstairs. From here, we were very pleased with the pace of things. Eli and his team are very eager to work and do not make you wait. The demo happened very quickly and before we knew it we were moving very quickly through rough electrical and plumbing. The rest of the job went very smoothly and ended up being ahead of schedule. At any time if something was not right, Eli was very open to our suggestions and critiques and always made sure his crew fixed the issue. They also discovered dry rot and mold growth on multiple stories of my house that likely resulted from the leaks. They were able to quickly and efficiently repair the leak, open up the drywall to repair all the mold damage, and then replace the drywall and repaint/retexture the wall. Oh, they stayed on to re-deck my aged and rotting wood deck with some modern synthetic decking. Yes, quite a bit of repair work, yet all done within a couple of weeks. Well, it's been about two years since they've done this work and I'm sitting in this season's first major rainstorm thankful that the repair work has been holding quite well. Thanks to Alex, Ilya, and their hardworking crew for the excellent repair work. Regarding the original windows that I needed repaired, well, that turned out to be more complicated. Fortunately, Ilya and Alex were good on their commitment to complete the job until the leaking completely stopped. Yes, what a relief now that the rainy weather has picked up again this winter. In summary, easy to work with, fast, versatile, wide range of services, committed.

Long overdue review! We hired United Pro Handyman (led by Ilya) in January 2024 for a remodel,…read moreincluding relocating an entry door, adding a partition wall, closing off a fireplace, removing built-ins, interior painting, and exterior stucco work. Unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing. The main issue arose with the exterior stucco work, which began cracking within days. Ilya sent his guy to fix the problem and his guy just applied another layer of stucco to cover the cracks! After one week, the cracks became evident and had worsened. My husband and I have decided to go with a different contractor to fix this issue. I had informed ILya about this and he initially agreed to reimburse us for a stucco patch. During this time, we decided to legalize the remodel. From the city inspection, we found out that the problem wasn't just superficial--underneath the stucco, we discovered improper waterproofing, incorrect lathing, and screws that did not comply with California code. This oversight could have led to much larger structural issues in the future. When I explained that this was not simply a patch job but required a complete redo of waterproofing, lathing, and screw replacements, Ilya became unresponsive. Alex, the manager, visited our site multiple times during the project in January and even guaranteed a one-year warranty, promising to provide a formal contract after we made full payment. Despite repeated follow-ups with Andrei, the estimator, we never received that contract. If you're considering United Pro Handyman, I strongly advise you to demand a binding quote or contract that includes all warranties before making any down payment. Be cautious of their "choice" between a 10% discount but you pay for the materials or no discount but they will shoulder the cost of materials--insist that they cover materials, especially for larger projects. They purchased unnecessary items, including insulation pads that were never used, resulting in a complete waste of money. As of today, our newly stucco wall is now ready to be painted. We passed all inspections and it feels so good to know everything was done correctly. We regret our decision to work with United Pro Handyman and recommend others proceed with extreme caution.
