We were in town for an event and needed to make a quick stop (Indio) before starting our three-hour drive back to Arizona. We have eaten at Chelo's Burgers before and already knew it was good, but this visit absolutely deserved a review! We originally planned to grab only French fries, but decided to add a double cheeseburger with bacon--and WOW, we were so glad we did. The burger was perfectly made: crispy around the edges, juicy and flavorful, with the cheese melted perfectly. Every bite was delicious. The gal that took our order was very attentive. Awesome visit. Chelo's was the perfect stop before a long drive. Great food, consistently good quality, and definitely worth going out of your way for. We will absolutely be back whenever we are in town! read more

This was definitely an interesting place and my mom and I were equally confused as to where it was since your first see a gas station- then wallah! It's comforting if you want just a straight up diner feel and it reminded me of one I grew up with and just recently gone out of business. The food is served hot and fresh with friendly staff. I ordered steak and eggs. I was on a keto diet but i did have to try the hash browns and oh my gosh they were THE BEST. They weren't overcooked and crunchy. Hungry while on the road from Phoenix to Los Angeles? Almost there but not quite there yet? That was kindda like our situation that day where we were hoping to eat well in Los Angeles but not quite there at the destination yet. Luckily, we found this unassuming Chelo's Burger joint in a nearby gas station in Indio and decided to grab a late lunch bite before heading to LA. The price was great for the wallet. Definitely affordable and the burgers were fresher and much better than what fast food joints can offer. I'm not a big beef eater but was glad I had it once in a long while. The meat has a nice char smell to it. My travel companion was kindda hungry so after finishing the burger...he went back for more fries, too. Overall, a decent place to get somewhat tastier things than fast food in your stomach while you are on the road for sure. read more

They have a variety of different food, but my go to is the cheeseburger combo that comes with fries and a drink. The burgers are always fresh and delicious, I always order a side of onion rings also. I was in the mood for a great ma-and-pa business hamburger, as a change from the regular franchise chain hamburger places. Since I'm somewhat new to the area, I thought I would try my luck finding a nice suitable place on Yelp. I was surprise to find Chelo's Burgers. Chelo's Burgers is less than 2 miles from my house and I have driven past Chelo's Burgers for over a year and never knew that there was a hamburger place at this location. I would have never guessed that such a great ma-and-pa hamburger business was adjoined to the Arco gas station and mini-mart. Upon arriving, I could easily see that Chelo's Burgers is the next door neighbor to the adjoining Arco min-mart, but it is not part of Arco and IS NOT a gas station hamburger. Based on the many positive prior Yelp reviews, I ordered a cheese burger, french fries, and onion rings. Upon returning home with my food and eating it, all I can now say is "AWESOME!" On a scale from 1 to 10 (10 being best), I rate my cheese burger a "10, my french fries a "10", and my onion rings a "10"! To me, these are the BEST cheese burgers, french fries, and onion rings in Coachella Valley! Since I live nearby, I'll probably give up eating at all of those chain franchise hamburger places in Coachella Valley. I don't eat fast food hamburgers often, but I am now hooked on the very great and good food at Chelo's Burgers, so I'll be eating here a lot more often now. I've been to the Chelo's in Mecca, CA- that was a great stop on the way home from Ocotillo Wells, great cheese burger, & fry. Also stopped on the one off of Date Palm Dr. , in Cathedral City,CA. Also very good fresh food. Great chicken tenders, & burgers! In Indio I ordered a shredded beef torta. They think I'm stupid or something , they chopped up carne asada real fine, but damn! I love shredded beef, & they gave me chopped carne asada!! Best one I've ever had was in Calexico CA, from a donut shop on our way back home from Mexicali. read more

Chelo Burger is located inside the AM PM/ARCO gas station, but don't let that throw you. They have a decent size seating area with about ten tables and it is modern and clean. The double cheeseburger is fantastic! It comes with lettuce, tomato, and thousand island dressing on a super fresh bun. This is the burger that the McD Big Mac wants to be when it grows up. Their fries are really good too. My husband had the ribeye steak with Spanish rice and refried beans. The sides were tasty and authentic, but the ribeye was really thin and because of that impossible to cook medium rare as ordered. If the sides are any indication of the kind of Mexican food available here then you can expect good things. read more

I've been coming out to Indio every February for work since 2004. When they built this place about 3 years ago I never seemed to think twice about trying it because it is in the gas station and usually any food joint next a gas station is pretty much average and the food is not so great. This time around I was craving menudo and wanted to try a different place other than the normal restaurant I'd get my menudo. I yelped and saw Chelo's and read the reviews about how great their menudo and food is. So I said what the heck, I'll finally try it. I gotta say, I highly recommend the menudo here, it's clean and has a great flavor. They also have this chili oil you can add which is very delicious as well. Be careful not to add too much, it's really spicy. I also tried their hard shell and asada too. Thumbs up to both. Very good flavor. I heard their burgers are delicious so I'm yet to try them. I'll post a review on the burgers once I've tried it. They look good though. The 5 stars is for the food, the price, the excellent customer service and the cleanliness of the place. Chelo's is definitely a must try. If you are like me always seeing the place each time you drive by and never thinking twice about eating there, I say go for it and try it out m, you'd be glad you did. read more

so I have no complaints on the food. I love the burgers there especially the sauce for the fries I think it's like a special thousand island sauce whenever me and my boyfriend and my kids go eat there we ask for 4 sauces we've never been told that they charge a dollar per sauce. We also go into the one in Cathedral city off of the date Palm exit well this time a girl worker by the name of Mayra, decided to say the sauces are a dollar each and of course we've told her we go eat there quite often and nobody has ever charged us for it, so what she did was give us two free and charge us for 2 my boyfriend then went to the restroom as soon as he went to the restroom I could hear her talking to the cook in Spanish complaining about the situation so then I called her out and told her I know what she's saying that I could hear her it's very disgusting and very unprofessional, that she right away started speaking negatively because she thought she wasn't going to be understood by me so then we told her we are going to be talking to the manager about this situation. She said that is fine. We told her we would call the next morning a minute later we heard her on the phone. I guess she got scared and called her manager to give a heads up I thought that was very unprofessional as well, like running, like a tattletale after talking to her manager, I'm assuming they told her to give the two dollars back to us that they charged us for the sauces which we didn't even want nor take we left it on the table. It wasn't about the money it's the fact that every single time we go we've never been charged and then she out of nowhere wants to try and enforce something out of us being there 50 times never having to do that. Very unpleasant experience with that worker I hope. The next time we go, we don't have to deal with her. Because again, if she wants to try and charge us, then it's gonna be an issue again. And manager if you're reading this. Be a good manager and handle the situation and tell your rude worker to not speak on an incident right in front of the customers, especially in another language she could have at least gone to the back!!! read more

THE best Double Cheeseburger I have ever had. Cooked up by Margurite (male). Better than In n Out! I think the shredded lettuce (water) somehow holds the charbroiled meat and fat flavor off till you bite off a mouthful and then mixes the grilled bun w the thousand islands sweet and tart to the acidic pickles all at one time where the taste nuerons receptors at differing parts of tongue hit all primal tastes in concert.
