    Chilaquiles and eggs over medium

I lived in Southern California for 50+ years and I'm glad that this was the meal I ate before my move to Canada. This restaurant has everything, authentic Mexican food (probably the most delicious I've had for chilaquiles EVER), kind and attentive staff (especially Erick, the young waiter). I'm not kidding. Try this place! I ordered my next meal from here to eat on the road to go, it was THAT GOOD.

Absolutely the best spot in the Coachella Valley for delicious Mexican food. The family that owns and runs this restaurant treats each and every customer as if they part of the family. The food and menu selection is amazing, and the atmosphere is so relaxing and clean. In fact, Apple CEO Tim Cook recently stopped in for lunch! Give this place a try when if live in the area or are just driving through. They are conveniently located just south of the 10 freeway on Monroe.

Carne asada torta, birria soup, and posole

This place was on our way out of Coachella. We walked in and ordered at the front. I got a cappuccino and the birria soup. I also shared a carne asada torta with my boyfriend. He got an horchata and posole and later got a Mexican coke. The cashier was also the one serving our food. He helped us decide what to order and was so nice. He also made sure to check on our table and make sure we didn't need anything. Amazing service and great food. I would definitely recommend and we will be back again next year!

HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE, for yourself or for your family. Food was amazing, very tasty, and hot, my family finished there plates completely. I recommend the birria soup it came with tortilla, lemon, onion and cilantro and also as an appetizer they give you chips with beans, cheese, and jalapeño while you wait for your food. Very fast service and super clean. Super friendly and very nice staff. The staff let my small 5 pound poodle (dog) in and also gave her a taco without even asking for it. Went above and Beyond with the service. They gained a loyal customer, my family will definitely be coming here after our ocotillo wells riding trips. They let us stay after closing to finish our food as well. The staff was amazing, extremely nice and sweet, and welcoming on February 21,2026.

I'm a fan of mom-and-pop businesses. I'd rather keep money local, if I can. Taco Jalisco allows me to do exactly that. Located on Monroe, near the freeway, it is a popular spot, especially for buses. The location is a converted diner. Though it may not be good for groups, the all booth style takes one back to a different era in dining. The menu covers the typical taquería offerings, including tacos, burritos, and nachos. Everything is made-to-order and made from scratch. Prices are incredibly reasonable, especially given the quality and quantity of food served. The owner is one of the nicest ladies I've ever met. She greets everyone and is service-oriented. She'll fuss over you, like you're family. I typically order tacos to take back to my staff. Everything is packaged in a way that all I have to do is take off some foil and it is ready to go! I'm a fan of their carne asada and carnitas. But, the best thing on the menu, in my world, are the beans. They are outstanding; creamy, perfectly seasoned, with a great mouth feel. If they aren't using lard, I'd be shocked. Orders of nachos with meat are enormous and easily shared. Every time I order to go, the owner will bring me a plate of chips with beans, cheese and jalapeños to snack on, while I wait. This is a simple gesture, but it is so sweet and makes me want to come back. Canned and bottled drinks are kept on ice. Because buses do stop here, you may find the location quite full. One thing to note is the parking. The building is shared with a U-Haul location. There are some parking spots in the back, but that is where many of the U-Haul trucks are stored. The lot back there is also full of pot holes. There are a few parking spots on the side of the building, but there are typically trucks parked there. You may have to park on the street, so as to not park in the hotel parking area.

And they did not disappoint! Wow! Seriously, not a pancake fan, but these were great! I ordered a side of sausage patties, another breakfast item I prefer over sausage links, and they were also very tasty. The place was busy, but we only had to wait about 10 minutes on a Saturday late morning. I'm sure Sundays are PACKED! The service was top notch and friendly. I'm not always in this area for breakfast, but if I am, this just might be my next go to.

The wait staff was friendly and attentive without being overbearing--my coffee and water were constantly refilled without even having to ask, which always makes a difference. I ordered the BLTA along with their German pancake. The BLTA was exactly what you want--crispy bacon, fresh lettuce, creamy avocado, all put together on toasted bread, and paired perfectly with seasoned fries. Now the standout: the German pancake. Just a heads up--it takes about 15-20 minutes to come out, but it's 100% worth the wait. It's served hot, puffed up, and finished with powdered sugar and lemon. Light, slightly crisp on the edges, and soft in the middle--really well done. Overall, great food, great service, and a relaxed vibe. Definitely a place I'd come back to

Great food! Great surroundings!…read more We came to Shield's while visiting the area and based on the suggestion of local friends. It was a nice morning, but warming fast. We were seated promptly and a server was by quickly. We ordered and the food came out in a reasonable time frame. I had Date Pancakes and loved them. I'd eat at the Cafe at Shields Date Garden the next time were's in the area. Tip - go earlier in the morning for the cool weather as it can get pretty warm eating outside. So let me begin by saying that my husband & I have been regular customers as in at least twice a month since last summer. When we dine here we always give a 25% to 30% tip to the server. There have been times they didn't deserve it but we leave it never the less because we frequent the restaurant and want to honor the servers working there. The last two times before today have not been as good as usual but we decided to go here for lunch today. Hubby got a cheese omelet and I ordered the Shield's Signature Salad. We also ordered two coffees. It is like pulling teeth to get a coffee refill here. This is a regular occurrence where we have to ask for more coffee. Our food arrives and I notice that my husband's plate was sloppy and the omelette much smaller than usual. On my salad was unpeeled mango slices. I had to peel the skin off in order to be able to eat them! Anyone who cooks knows that the skin peels right off a ripe mango. Apparently however makes the salads is too lazy to do that! The pear was unripe and hard as a rock on the salad so it was not edible. The mango was ripe and after I peeled the skin off it was edible. The entire salad however was drenched in salad dressing! It had twice the amount of dressing on it that it should have had making it totally inedible. I called the server over and showed him the mango and let him know that I tried to eat the mango with the skin and you cannot chew it! He argued with me, brought back another plate of sliced mango that still had the peel on it!! He continued to argue. Then he took off and when I went to eat the salad there was just too much dressing on it. I asked the helper there who was assisting him to take the salad as I could not eat it as it was. They asked if I wanted something else but my husband was half way done and honestly, I lost my appetite so I said no. Had to ask for coffee again. When the server came by I flagged him down & asked for the check. When he brought it I tried to explain about the mango and the salad and he was super rude and just not interested. First time I ever left a dollar for a tip! I wrote on the check & I quote; "when you aren't interested at all in what your customers have to say you are lucky to receive a dollar!" They seem to just care about the tourists and not the regulars! So guess what...these regulars will not be back. We were regulars who always tipped well and we didn't deserve that treatment. NEVER again and this time I mean it. The dirty silverware and sticky coffee cup are bad enough but the nasty service they can keep w/o us going there again!
